Thursday, August 31st: Wrapping Up August With A Big Tournament Day

ICYMI: Yesterday's tournament action started like many other Wednesday afternoons, with the $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD).  The "Monster Stack" rarely has any issues reaching the guarantee, as players have made it clear that this is one of their favorite afternoon event. Wednesday's installment of the event attracted a field of (56) total entries, which is one of the largest turnouts we've seen for that tournament.  The $4,312 prize pool was spread over seven payout spots, and once the money was reached, the remaining players began discussing a deal.  It only took a few minutes before the numbers were agreed to, with a handful of Isle Poker notables notching cashes on their resumes:
  1. Brian Hanes (Southwest Ranches, FL) $778
  2. Sam Borger (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $778
  3. Mike Brinson (Boynton Beach, FL) $764
  4. Thomas Gari (Hollywood, FL) $677
  5. Pedro Palacio (Delray Beach, FL) $597
  6. Stacy Thomas (Jupiter, FL) $402
  7. Mike Spadafore (Boynton Beach, FL) $316
The evening tournament (6:00pm) was a $40 No Limit Hold'em event without a guarantee, but that didn't stop the field from reaching (73) total entries. The prize pool reached $2,571 after the optional player add-ons were included, with a $874 posted first place prize.  Ten places were paid in the tournament, and after the elimination of Michele Milker (Delray Beach, FL) in fifth place, the event would end in a four-way deal:
  1. Jose Moscatel (Sunny Isles Beach, FL) $475
  2. Sergio Amato (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $475
  3. Vincent Laino (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $475
  4. Charles Zusag (Plantation, FL) $475
  5. Michele Milker (Delray Beach, FL) $162
  6. Kyle Kelly (Boca Raton, FL) $129
  7. John Saint Louis (Tamarac, FL) $113
  8. Frank Giordano (Pompano Beach, FL) $103
  9. Michael Boykin (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $87
  10. Pedro Castro (Deerfield Beach, FL) $77
Tournaments:  The tournament action in August appropriately ends with some special events, the first of which is the $130 Limit Omaha 8B (Hi/Lo), a tournament that carries with it a $2,000 guarantee.  We have learned over the first month with "mixed" events, that the structure is very player-friendly (16,000 unit starting stack), with (15) minute levels that transition to (20) after registrations close.

That tournament is followed at 6:00pm by the $130 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 GTD).  An event that many of the players favorite, the posted guarantee should never be at risk this evening.  The tournament is structured with 16,000 unit starting stacks, and play with (20) minute levels throughout the event.

Promotions: The Full House Early Bird promotion is in it's regularly scheduled spot this morning, but it's no longer just for limit hold'em players.  Every table in the poker room (excluding time raked games) is eligible for the promotion, which pays out the first (50) full houses (payout depends on which stakes are being played).  Similar to what is run on Friday's, there will also be $300 awarded to qualifying high hands every (15) minutes (from 12:00pm-4:00pm).

11:00am - $130 Limit Omaha 8B Hi/Lo ($2,000 GTD)

- Players will begin with a 16,000 starting stack
- Late and re-entries for the first (8) levels
- Alternates and late entries will receive full stacks
- Levels 1-8 are (15) minutes in length, with Levels 9+ lasting (20) minutes

6:00pm - $130 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 GTD)

- Players will begin with a 16,000 starting stack
- Late and re-entries for the first (8) levels
- Alternates and late entries will receive full stacks
- Levels are (20) minutes in length throughout

Wednesday, August 30th: Goldshteyn And Hardy Headline "Tournament Tuesday," "Spin To Win" Keeps Awarding Money

ICYMI: "Tournament Tuesday" began at 11:00am with the $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD), an event that attracted (40) total entries.  That number helped the prize pool eclipse the posted guarantee, as registration closed at $3,080.  First place was scheduled to receive $1,263, with four players to reach the money in the tournament.  The posted numbers were eventually altered, after five players agreed to a chop, making a pay spot for fifth place.

  1. Leonid Goldshteyn (Tamarac, FL) $793
  2. Pietro Tomabene (Boca Raton, FL) $730
  3. Brian Niekerk (Kingston, TN) $679
  4. Morris Heider (Boca Raton, FL) $632
  5. John Marinacci (Boca Raton, FL) $246
The evening tournament (6:00pm) was the $60 No Limit Hold'em ($8,000 GTD), an event that has become a "lock," in regards to reading the guarantee.  Last night's installment hosted a field that was comprised of (182) entries, and once the optional add-ons were included in the number, the official prize pool would close at $8,478.  When the payouts were released, players would see (23) spots getting paid, along with a $2,197 posted first place prize.  After the elimination of Robert Weidenbacher (Annandale, NJ) in eleventh place, the remaining players would redraw for final table seating assignments.  That is where the tournament would end though, as everyone agreed to a final table chop, with Hugh Hardy (Pompano Beach, FL) the awarded winner.
  1. Hugh Hard (Pompano Beach, FL) $1,086
  2. Anderson Patino (Miami, FL) $994
  3. Didier Bramy (Parkland, FL) $742
  4. Sam Costa (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) $667
  5. Myrna Albert (Boca Raton, FL) $653
  6. Horney Boutros (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $632
  7. Miguel Briganty (Sunrise, FL) $629
  8. Antoine Bahi (Boca Raton, FL) $600
  9. Robert Blanchette (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $528
  10. John Sarappa (Lantana, FL) $231
Tournaments: Wednesday's tournament slate sees two events, the first of which begins at 11:00am.  The $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD) has that player-friendly structure, with a starting stack of 25,000 units, and levels of (20) minutes.  That event is followed at 6:00pm by the $40 No Limit Hold'em tournament, structured with 12,000 unit starting stacks, and (20) minute levels.

Promotions: The high hand promotions are in full swing from the moment the doors open this morning, with the "Turbo High Hands" ($100 awarded every 10 minutes from 9:00am-12:00pm, with rollovers) distributing money at a rapid pace.  The transition at 12:00pm begins the "Spin To Win" promotion, which has awarded hundreds of thousands since it's inception.  It's the high hand promotion that makes all others jealous, and affords those that have a qualifying high hand (awarded every 30 minutes), an opportunity to spin the ever-popular "Money Wheel."  The total amount awarded...along with hourly breakdown, will be published tomorrow afternoon, here on the blog.

11:00am - $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD)

- Players start with 25,000 in tournament chips
- Late and re-entries for the first (8) levels
- Alternates and late entries will start with a full stack

Tuesday, August 29th: It's Called "Tournament Tuesday" For A Reason

ICYMI: Monday's tournament action was scheduled to start with the $130 No Limit Hold'em Survivor, but the event was shift to the $100 No Limit Hold'em "Big Stack Turbo Bounty."  The "intimate" field ended up paying out one spot, with the final two players agreeing to a heads-up chop.

  1. Michael Dotson (Jupiter, FL) $200
  2. Domenic Piziferri (Boynton Beach, FL) $176
"Intimate" was definitely not a word that would be used to describe the evening tournament (6:00pm), as the $130 No Limit Hold'em ($25,000 GTD) saw registration close with a total of (285) entries.  The prize pool ballooned to $27,645, which was spread across (36) pay spots.  Final table action would pause after one elimination (Raul Hernandez), with the remaining nine players agreeing to a deal.
  1. Andrey Kolchov (Miami, FL) $2,842
  2. Manuel Rosado (Miami, FL) $2,729
  3. Luke Rosenberg (Parkland, FL) $2,590
  4. Steven Bennett (Deerfield Beach, FL) $2,555
  5. Bradford Greeley (Lake Worth, FL) $2,348

Tournaments: Players are getting back into the "groove" of the recurring tournament schedule, with the $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD) kicking things off at 11:00am.  One of the player favorites, this tournament has a structure with a 25,000 unit starting stack, and (20) minute levels throughout the event.  Players would be hard pressed to find another daily tournament anywhere, that offers such a deep structure for a $100 buy-in.

The evening tournament (6:00pm) is the $60 No Limit Hold'em event with an $8,000 guaranteed prize pool.  Another "fan-favorite," this tournament allows players to turn a $60 buy-in, into a potential four-figure score.  The tournament starts players with 14,000 unit starting stacks, and plays (20) minute levels over the course of the night.  There is an optional "add-on" that player can choose to purchase, giving them the ability to "pad" there stack, heading to the later stages of the event.

Promotions: It's all about getting to the poker room early on Tuesdays (and Thursdays), as the "Early Bird Full House" promotion offers an awarded cash prize (depending on game plated) for the first (50) full houses of the day (in live cash games).  That promotion is followed by $300 high hands every (15) minutes, from the hours of 12:00pm-4:00pm.

11:00am - $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD)

- Players start with 25,000 in tournament chips

- Optional add-on at the end of Level 8 ($20 for 10,000 units, 100% goes towards the prize pool)
- All late registrants and re-entries will receive a full stack

Monday, August 28th: "August $100,000" Ends In Six-Way Chop, Back To Recurring Schedule

ICYMI: Yesterday was Day 2 of the "August $100,000," with (154) players returning, looking to earn their share of the $129,490 prize pool.  It would only take a half-hour for the money bubble to be reached, and after fifteen minutes of hand-for-hand play, Joseph Couden (Blacklick, OH) would be the final player eliminated without a cash prize in return.

After Couden's elimination, there was a steady flow of players to the tournament podium, with the field losing over close to (70) players in four levels.  Some of those players to cash in that first wave included Camillo Poerio (137th - $172), David Miller (130th - $192), Joseph Mancuso (120th - $215), Arlene Vazquez (111th - $238), Kimberly Jones (106th - $262), Andrew Blake (95th - $285), and Tracy Scala (86th - $309).

With the field then down to seven tables, a glance at the chip leaders yielded a list that contained just one player that eventually chopped the event (Ian Cohen).  That's going to be the case in an event with a structure such as the "August $100,000," as the stack to blind ratio hovered in the twenty big blind range for most of the later stages.  Things began to take shape at dinner break, when only eighteen players remained, led by William Novotny.  Players to cash short of the dinner break included Stephen Smith (80th - $335), Tony Ruberto (65th - $361), Zakarya Wolgamott (62nd - $387), Fletcher McKinney (52nd - $427), Rafael Fernandes (40th - $479), Evan Teitelbaum (28th - $557), and Alex Bastidas (19th - $874).

When play returned from dinner, discussions of a chop were brought up, but none of the players wanted to agree to an even deal.  It only took an hour until the final table was reached, with Vitaly Shafran eliminating Marc Bronstein and Paulius Bikus in the same hand, to make the table nine-handed.  Once again, discussions of a deal were brought up, but two detractors caused play to continue on.  It wasn't until the elimination of David Gelley in seventh place that the numbers were run in an ICM calculator, with those remaining agreeing to a deal.  The six players involved in the deal, and their official payouts, are posted below:
  1. Ian Cohen - $13,555
  2. Jason Young - $12,174
  3. Vitaly Shafran - $10,932
  4. William Novotny - $10,126
  5. Alan Munoz - $9,131
  6. Leroy Grant - $8,407
Tournaments: The Monday afternoon time slot (11:00am) hosts a $120 No Limit Hold'em Survivor, with three players guaranteed to walk away with a $400 "package."  Approximately 1 in 4.5 players will make up each "package," so the potential for more than three players to win $400 is always there.  The event is structured with starting stack of 12,000 units, and levels that last (20) minutes throughout the afternoon.

The evening tournament (6:00pm) carries the largest guaranteed prize pool for a single-day event on the August schedule.  The $130 No Limit Hold'em tournament has a $25,000 guarantee, and has been one of the most popular tournaments on the recurring schedule.  The structure has players sitting down to starting stacks of 16,000 units, and playing levels of (20) minutes over the course of the night.

Promotions: Outside of the "standard high hand" promotion, there will be "Turbo High Hands" from 9:00am-12:00pm.  During that window of time, $100 will be awarded to the qualifying high hand every (10) minutes (rollovers apply).

- Players will begin with a 12,000 starting stack
- Late and re-entries for the first (8) levels

David Gelley (Boca Raton, FL) 7th Place - $3,706

David Gelley (Boca Raton, FL) pulled off a pretty impressive feat, reaching back-to-back final tables in the "August $150,000" (last week) and this "August $100,000."  His run looked to be headed even deeper, but would get very unlucky in his final hand.  Gelley would be all-in with 8♠ 8, against the A♣ 10♣ of Al Munoz.  It was be an action flop with the dealer fanning out J♣ 10♠ 8♣, giving Gelley a set, and Munoz the nut-flush draw.  Munoz would end up hitting the flush on the river, eliminating David in 7th place ($3,706).

"August $100,000" (Day 2): 8th Place - Williams ($2,938)

"August $100,000 GTD"

Total Entries: 1,126
Players Remaining: 7

Russel Williams (Port St. Lucie, FL) 8th Place - $2,938

Ian Cohen would shove for just under twenty big blinds, and after action folded to Russell Williams, he would call for less.  The blinds released their hands, and it would be the A 8 of Williams against the 8 8♠ of Cohen.  The board would run out Q♣ 3 5♠ 2 5, and Williams would be eliminated in eight place, taking home $2,938.
