$75 No Limit Hold'em
Level 16 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 18/121

While it was thought that Steven Carswell bagged the Flight 1A chip lead, once the stacks were broken down and verified, it would be Gerald Blum earning the $500 "chip lead bonus."  Blum, from Boca Raton, Florida, is coming off a month long stretch where his made three final tables (during recurring events here at the Isle Poker Room).  Both Blum and Carswell weren't even on the radar in terms of the "race" as the flight entered it's final stages, and ended up finishing one-two.

Gerald Blum  248,000
Steven Carswell 211,000
Kareem Bernardo 160,000

Level 16 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 19/121

Steven Carswell (Palm Beach Gardens, FL)

Like we've seen so many times before in these multi-flight/multi-day events, a player comes from seemingly nowhere to grab a chip lead in the final few levels of the day.  Steven Carswell was one of the shorter stacked players in the tournament after the registration window closed, but some quality cards (and quality play) helped Steven eclipse the 200,000 mark midway through Level 18.  The Florida-based player has just $16,000 in career tournament earnings, with his largest cash happening almost a year ago to the date.  Carswell took down a $130 No Limit Hold'em event on June 8th of last year (at Coconut Creek), worth close to $4,250.

Steven's official count has not been verified just yet, but once the stacks from Flight 1A have been bagged and verified, a list of end of flight chip counts will be posted.

Level 18 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 21/121

Francois Gagne (Hillsboro Beach, FL)

As was expected, the few short stacks that are remaining at this point are picking their spots to try and double, but they've been unsuccessful in doing so.  One recipient of some later staged "run good" has been Francois Gagne (Hillsboro Beach, FL), a tournament veteran who now has a shot at the $500 chip lead bonus.  Gagne has trended steadily upward since the most recent break, and now sits with just over 150,000.

While Francois is the only other player beside Bernardo and Mancuso that seems to be "in the race," there are those in the field that are only one double away from assuming the chip lead (Robert Slater - 95,000, David Becker - 90,000).

$75 No Limit Hold'em
Level 17 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 23/121

Joseph Mancuso (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Kareem Bernardo (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Flight 1A play just entered Level 17, which means that there are (40) minutes left in the day, at which point the bagging process begins.  While the chip average currently sits at 78,000, which is just over (12) big blinds, there aren't many players over that amount.  The race for the chip lead bonus seems to be between Joseph Mancuso (150,000) and Kareem Bernardo (180,000), but with the blinds as high as they are to finish the day, some drastic changes before bags come out wouldn't surprise anyone.  The clock will be paused with (10) minutes remaining in Level 18, and a predetermined amount of hands will be played, followed by the bagging process (and the crowning of the $500 winner).

Paulius Bikus (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Flight 1B's registration period is at it's midway point, and there have been (80) entries to this point...a pace that looks to crush that of Flight 1A.  While it was mentioned that a handful of players that busted Flight 1A are in this early Flight 1B field, there are also numerous familiar faces firing their first bullet into the event.  Paulius Bikus (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) has already earned $5,700 in live tournament cashes this year, which brings his overall total to $39,448.  Paulius is coming off of a tournament win just two weeks ago, as he took down the $150 No Limit Hold'em (May 21st) for $2,454.  Some other notables Isle Poker players in the second flight include:

Tom Gity
Thomas Gari
Zaki Lichaa
Zakarya Wolgamott
Nancy Birnbaum
Robert Urspruch
Hector Caraballo
Nestor Caraballo
Larry Stoddard
Sergio Amato
James Hamburger

"June $50,000 GTD"

Level 14 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/300)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 37/121

Gene Mirabello (Deerfield Beach, FL)

One of the great things about this tournament is the "availability" it offers to players of all abilities, experience, and bankroll.  While the $75 buy-in is very comfortable for recreational players, the $50,000 guarantee helps attract the tournament veterans and grinders.  There aren't many opportunities for players to turn a $75 buy-in into a five-figure score, which is why we are seeing a lot of new faces in the crowd.

One of those new faces just tripled up moments ago, a Gene Mirabello eliminated one opponent, and doubled through another to scoop a multi-way pot.  The chips from the three players would find their way to the middle on a flop of K 7♣ 3♠, with Mirabello holding 7♠ 7 against 7 8 and K♣ 9♣.  Gene had both of his opponents in really rough shape, and after the Q fell on the turn, he'd have the hand locked up.  Mirabello is up to 80,000 with that pot, and sits with a top ten stack in Flight 1A.  Mirabello is a player with just one $88 cash on his tournament resume, so potentially bagging chips and reaching Day 2 would be a new experience for Gene.

Remaining players will head on their final break of the day at the conclusion of this level, and will return to finish the final four levels.  Focus can begin to shift toward the chip lead bonus, with the largest stack of each starting flight walking away $500 richer.

Kareem Bernardo (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

As 3:00pm approaches, players entered in the second flight of the day (Flight 1B) are beginning to take their seats.  There are some former Flight 1A players looking for a better result, but a lot of new faces in this early afternoon field.

Officially, Flight 1A had a total of (121) entries, which means that $6,413 will be going towards the overall prize pool for the event.  Only (39) active players currently remain at the midway point of Level 12, with everyone currently looking up at Kareem Bernardo (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), who sits with over 105,000.  A  potential deep run in this event would be a career highlighting tournament score for Kareem, who comes into the day with just over $1,000 in live earnings (four of his five results have been from here at the Isle Poker Room).  The chip average sits at 46,000, which still leaves for some deep play early, as the average stack is just under (30) big blinds.  As the flight progresses, and the blinds continue to climb, you'll see the action "forced" a little by the structure.

Kareem Bernardo - 105,000
Bernie Schmidt - 92,000
Francis Margaglione - 82,000
Joseph Mancuso - 50,000
Hugh Hardy - 48,0000
Daniel Genachte - 33,000

"I'm going to have to try and live up to your post now," exclaimed Francis Margaglione as we walked by his table.  Not (10) minutes after that statement, Margaglione limp shoved over an open with pocket aces, getting a call out of the opener who held pocket jacks.  Both players held close to 60,000 in chips each, so this pot would be worth well over 100,000 to the eventual winner.  While to paint cards found there way onto the board, neither were the jack that Francis's opponent would be looking for.  Margaglione would take an overwhelming chip lead as player head to their first break of the day.

Once the break that follows this level has concluded, and cards are in the air for Level 9, registration for this flight will be closed.  There is currently over $6,000 in the flight's prize pool, and if field sizes stayed on this exact pace, we'd be looking at a prize pool eclipsing the guarantee.  Some of the following flights may have less than this opening number, but a majority of them will be larger.  Players can looking forward to a prize pool in the $60,000-$70,000 for this tournament, which offers an incredible ROI for a $75 buy-in event.

Andre Rakusa (Coral Springs, FL)

Andre Rakusa (Coral Springs, FL) is another Isle Poker tournament regular in today's field, and his goal is likely the same as the rest of the players...get the hands on the trophy (and first place money).  Andre has experienced that moment once in his tournament career, winning Event 9 of the 2016 Isle Poker Open ($350 No Limit Hold'em $300,000 GTD).  He'd earn just over $60,000 for his part of the ICM chop, holding a sizable final table chip lead.  Now a first place from a deal isn't quite the same as winning a tournament outright, but who can possibly argue with their name next to number one...and the largest payout in the event.

Andre continued his success as the calendar year turned, bubbling the "official final table" of the SHR WPT Deepstacks $1,100 Main Event, finishing tenth for $17,529.  Rakusa headlines the first look at notables in the Flight 1A field, a list that's been growing from the moment the cards got in the air.

Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL)

Towards the end of last month, the "Deepstack Series" was run at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood poker room.  The three "main" events of the series were a $150 No Limit Hold'em, $350 No Limit Hold'em, and $560 No Limit Hold'em.  Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL), who plays at many of the different properties in Florida, cashed in each of those events during the series, finishing no worse than 46th place.  Considering the field sizes and tournament variance, three deep runs like that are even more impressive.

Francis came into Day 2 of the $560 No Limit Hold'em as an overwhelming chip leader, but began trending the wrong way, and couldn't stop the slide.  He ended up finishing in 41st place for $1,085, but considering how he was returning with the largest stack, the result fell short of expectations.  Margaglione has been a frequent face on the blog, with the ability (and tendency) to amass chip at a quick rate.

Joseph Mancuso (left), Thomas Gari (top right), and Joseph
Durso (bottom right)
It's been long said in sports, that one of the biggest advantages to a team is playing in their home stadium/area.  There is a comfort to playing in a place that your mind is familiar with, and almost offers a sense of empowerment.  This tournament has already brought out a large group of players that call this poker room home...that play in a majority of the weekly schedule...and that like their chances in this room over others.

Joseph Mancuso, Thomas Gari, and Joseph Durso are just three of those players currently seated in the Flight 1A field.  The three have combined live tournament earnings of $130,000, with close to three-quarters of those results happening here at the Isle.

Mancuso has seen the most recent success, reaching three final tables in May, during "daily" events.  Thomas Gari has been consistent here as well though, cashing in both the "April $100,000 GTD and the "May $100,000 GTD."

Players are looking to turn a $75 buy-in into a potential five-figure score, as the cards get in the air for the first flight (of nine) for the "June $50,000 GTD."  Tournament Director Ralph Brandt will be making his first rules announcement of the week in just moments, and will make the "shuffle up and deal" announcement just after 11:00am.  Players in each flight will be sitting down to starting stacks of 15,000 units, and play (20) minute levels throughout the tournament.  Registration is open through eight levels each flight, which is just about three hours into the action.  The "chip leader bonus" is back, with $500 awarded to the top stack from each starting flight...

...Which will be a focus during live blogged coverage of the tournament, which begins with this post, and will continue through Flight 1A's bagging process.  The official end of flight chip counts will be posted for the afternoon and evening sessions, but the "in-depth" coverage will be offered to start the day.  Sunday's Day 2 will offer "full coverage," from the moment the cards get in the air, to the time the event's trophy is raised by the eventual winner.

Some time will be allowed for the tournament area to fill up, with the first look at notables in Flight 1A to follow shortly.

Thursday, June 8th: June's "Multi-Flight Madness" Begins Today With $50,000 GTD

ICYMI: The Wednesday installment of the $100 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" ($3,000 GTD) drew a field of (40) entries, which ended up surpassing the posted guarantee ($3,080 prize pool).  There were five spots scheduled to reach the money, and once the bubble burst, the deal making discussions begun.  After working the numbers, the five players agreed to a deal, with tournament regular Edgard "Corona" Mendes (Deerfield Beach, FL) earning first place money.

"Week In Review:" Official Daily Tournament Results (May 29th-June 4th)

There are certain tournaments that "come out of nowhere" to surprise with the attendance, and the afternoon tournament on Monday, May 29th was that event.  That tournament usually averages anywhere between 25-35 total entries, but last week saw a total of (52) make up the field.  Dana Leonaggeo (Pompano Beach, FL) booked her first ever tournament win, which also happened to be her second cash.

"Tournament Tuesday" is what it should be called at the Isle Poker Room, as both tournament time slots have seen a lot of success for months now.  While the "Monster Stack" has been in the afternoon slot for a while now, the $60 No Limit Hold'em ($12,000 GTD) looks to be finding a new home on Monday's, moving forward.  On Tuesday, May 30th,  the "Monster Stack" tournament saw Daniel Reitberg lead the way of a six-way chop, while Richard Cooper took home first place money in a seven-way chop of the evening's event.

Friday, June 2nd saw a little twist in the schedule, as the $75 No Limit Hold'em ($5,000 GTD) entered the evening tournament time slot for the first time.  The turnout was very solid for the event, besting the guaranteed number by over $1,000.  A four-way chop would end the event, with Mikhail Wisdom (Philadelphia, PA) taking home first place money (worth $1,533).

There was another first on Sunday, June 4th, as the "Hard Stop, ICM Chop" was introduced to the calendar.  The event is intended to give players more of a comfort, knowing that the tournament will be over by a specific time (which in this case is between 12:15-12:30am).  The payouts are scheduled "as normal," but once the hand-for-hand process (ten hands) is completed after Level 16, the remaining payouts are determined by ICM calculations.  It's only fitting that one of the poker room's regulars won the inaugural event, with Tom Gity earning an even $1,000 for his efforts.
