FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Jose Reyes Bags Flight 1C Chip Lead

Level 12 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 117
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 31

Jose Reyes (Boynton Beach, FL)

The flight 1C bagging process concluded just moments ago, with the chip lead bonus coming down (once again) to the last hand of the night.  Jose Reyes (Boynton Beach, FL) made a call for a third of his stack with 98on a board of J9♠ 4♣ 5, and had the right read, as his opponent held 9 7.  The pot would bring Reyes above 190,000, and after Nissim Gozlan lost a pot with Q♠ Q♣ against A♠ 8♠, the Event #20 (FSPC $1,500 Main Event) seat would be Jose's.

Players have exited the tournament area, and the bags are currently being verified.  Once the counts have been made official, they will be posted here on the blog, along with Day 2 seating assignments.

Francisco Frias-Feliz (Florida)

Play has entered the final level of Flight 1C, with blinds going up to 600/1,200/200 (74,000 chip average).  The race for the chip lead is going to be a close one, as a handful of players are realistically in the hunt.  Nissim Gozlan does carry a small lead into these last (50) minutes, but players like Francisco Frias-Feliz, Jose Reyes, Pedro Idrovo, David Barbieri are just one pot away from eclipsing his number.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Gozlan Cracks Morgan's Aces, Lets The Field Know About It

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 115
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 34

Nissim Gozlan (Plantation, FL)

"Yeessssss...cracked aces!!!!"

It could be heard across the poker room, as Nissim Gozlan was all-in pre-flop with K K, against Timothy Morgan's A♠ A.  It was the final hand at Table 5 before it broke, and as players were racking up their chips, they watched a runout of K♠ 5♣ 2♠ 5 7.  Nissim stood with his hands in the air celebrating, while Morgan watched the dealer cut 72,600 out of his stack.  Morgan would only be putting 12,000 in his rack as he walked away, while Gozlan collected his chips totaling over 155,000.

The pot puts Gozlan atop the leaderboard, as he joins Table 2 for the remainder of tonight's play.  Morgan was relocated to Table 1, where is has managed to survive a few orbits with just over ten big blinds.

Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 115
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 40

Players have been in action for one full level since dinner, and the field is down to (40) players, on five active tables.  Justin Levy (Boynton Beach, FL) is leading the field, with just two more levels before the bagging process begins, and the chip lead bonus is awarded.  There is a large group of players that have busted this Flight 1C, and while they may not have re-entered, tomorrow does offer the Day 2 buy-in (before the cards are in the air).  Listed below are some of the players to have been eliminated from play:

Michael Stewartson
Changfei Cui
Philip Hui
Anthony Ruberto
Ory Hen
Ian Cohen
Uri Kadosh
Doron Malinasky

Peter Fellows (Pembroke Pines, FL)

Players are heading on their (45) minute dinner break, and will be returning to Level 10, and new blinds of 400/800/100 (47,000 chip average).  Peter Fellows (Pembroke Pines, FL) leads the remaining players at dinner, leaving a stack of 165,000 at the table.  There are three more levels of scheduled play post-dinner break, with the bagging process to being shortly after 9:00pm.  Registration stays open throughout the flight, so the possibility of new faces after break is high.  Posted below are some updated chip counts from the end of Level 9.

Peter Fellows - 165,000
Victor Figueroa - 105,000
Kent Taepakdee - 103,000
Nissim Gozlan - 97,000

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Oropesa Finds The Right Hand, At The Right Time

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 9 (Blinds 300/600/75)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 100

Rafael Oropesa (Hialeah, FL)

After an open to 1,250, and a flat behind, Rafael Oropesa (Hialeah, FL) pushed forward his stack of 7,500.  Another player would re-shove for 21,650, and with the original opener sitting with a stack that covered both players, he'd call to put both players at risk.  Oropesa was in favorable shape, holding A♠ A against K♠ K♣ and A K.  Rafael pulled out his phone and began documenting the hand, as the dealer took time to correctly make a side pot.

Oropesa leaned over the table to be able to see the runout, which fell 4♣ 5 J♠ 6 5, and gave Rafael the triple-up.  "I was so short, that I figured you both thought I had nothing," Oropesa said to his table mates, as he sat back down to stack his chips.  While he has newfound tournament life, Rafael still sits below the current chip average, which stands at 35,000.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Late Arriving Crowd Continues To File In

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 8 (Blinds 250/500/75)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 96

Victor Figueroa (Miami, FL)

When a tournament allows for players to buy-in during Level 7 with (50) big blinds, you're going to see a good amount of bigger names arrive fashionably late.  Since play resumed just over forty minutes ago, the has been a new table added to the field, and a handful of new faces in the crowd.  Victor Figueroa (Miami, FL) is one of those recent arrivals, sitting down with an impressive tournament resume, boasting over $775,000 in earnings.  Figueroa broke out on the scene in 2012, winning a WPT Regional $1,650 NLH event at Seminole Hard Rock, during the Rock And Roll Poker Open ($105,000).  Victor would see continued success over the next five years, but another six-figure score eluded him...until earlier this year.  He would chop the opening event of the Lucky Hearts Poker Open ($360 No Limit Hold'em) with Jerry Wong and Nancy Thomas, earning $103,826 for his efforts.  Figueroa returns to action after a WSOP summer with four cashes, and joins the likes of:

Steven McKoy
Doron Malinasky
Corey Burbick
Anthony Ruberto
Nguyen Quang
Michael Merisier
Matthew Yorra

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Updated Chip Counts Post-Break

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 84

Timothy Morgan (Pompano Beach, FL)

There was a quick flurry of entries during break, with a pair of notables entering the field for the first time in this event.  Philip Hui and Loni Harwood are widely regarded in the community as not only one of the greater couples in poker, they're also great representatives of the game.  The two took their seats as players returned from break, looking to run-up their 20,000 chip starting stacks (50 big blinds).

Shifting the focus to the leaderboard, satellite winner Timothy Morgan (Pompano Beach, FL) returns from break as the flight's chip leader, becoming the first player to eclipse the 100,000 mark.  Danilo Parada is one of his closest competitors, with the Isle tournament regular holding a stack of 75,000.

Timothy Morgan - 114,000
Peter Fellows - 86,000
Danilo Parada - 75,000
Nissim Gozlan - 75,000
Tom Gity - 53,000
Frederico Dabus - 50,000

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): They're Flipping For Seats In A Single-Hand Satellite

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/50)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 69

David Poces (Boca Raton, FL)

A couple of players approached Tournament Director Ralph Brandt about doing "flips" for a seat into Event #14, and just (20) minutes later (and a few announcements to the room), there were ten players (each putting up $110) ready to play one hand for a seat.  There would be no chips...no blinds...no betting.  Just a draw for the button, the dealing of a hand to each player, and a full board runout.

Before any player's hands were exposed, the dealer ran out a board of 9♠ 8 J Q A.  There was commotion from the table on each street, and after the river put four diamonds on the board, everyone quickly looked to see if they had a diamond.  "I have the king, I have the king," David Poces said with a big smile.  Poces was awarded the tournament ticket, and is now seated at Table 10.  There are already players looking to do this again, as another interest list has started.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Gozlan Coming Off Largest Lifetime Score

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 66

Nissim Gozlan (Plantation, FL)

The currently chip leader in the Flight 1C field is Nissim Gozlan, who sits with just over 80,000 in front of him.  Gozlan enters the day with $135,678 in career earnings, and is coming off the largest score of his tournament career.  Nissim made a run in the WSOP $10,000 Main Event, finishing in 604th place for $20,411.  While some players feel "burned out" by the time the WSOP summer ends, a run in the main usually helps in renewing the tournament poker passion.  Gozlan has been extremely talkative at the table, along with very active, which has helped him amass his stack.

Play is about to enter Level 6, with blinds going up to 150/300/50 (25,556 chip average).  There will be a short break at the end of the level, with play shifting to (50) minute levels when the cards are back in the air.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Ory Hen Wastes No Time Picking Up Where He Left Off

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 4 (Blinds 75/150/25)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 57

Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL)

Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) is the definition of a professional tournament poker player, putting in volume that's unmatched by many.  On average, Ory has recorded (13) results per year since 2007, but has had as many as (24) cashes in a single year (2016).  Hen's most recent result, a sixth place finish in last week's Event #7, was his largest tournament score in over a year.  The sixth place finish was worth $16,990, and brought his career earnings north of $1,175,000.

It didn't take long for Hen to get involved at his table, all-in on the river of a board reading 4♣ Q6♠ 7♠ 4, just moments after taking his seat.  With over 17,000 already in the pot, the 10,000 river shove was too much for his opponent to call, and Hen would chip up to 28,000.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Kadosh Makes The Most Of Time At The Table

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 4 (Blinds 75/150/25)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 53

Uri Kadosh (Davie, FL)

Players returned a short while ago from their first ten minute break of the day, and are currently playing Level 4 (75/150/25).  One of the late entries just before break was Uri Kadosh (Davie, FL), the 2017 Battles At The Beach $1,500 Championship Event winner ($120,035).  Kadosh's final table story that day was one that would fit a dramatic script.  One of the shorter stacks with a handful of players remaining, Kadosh was super short (with less than ten bigs), and ended up cracking pocket aces to stay alive.  From there, Uri was able to navigate his way to the top of the chip counts, and was the leader when a three-way chop was agreed to.

Three months would pass, and while "major" events were run here (and surrounding properties), Kadosh wasn't in attendance for any of them.  Uri was spotted in the Event #7 field last week, and when asked about his absence, he smiled and gave the reason.  "I have to work my friend, and it keeps me very busy."  Uri's schedule does not allow for much tournament poker at the moment, but he made sure to stop by and take a shot in this event.

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Willis Looking To Recapture Last Week's Magic

Level 3 (Blinds 75/150/25)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 40

Dolline Willis (Plantation, FL)

Last Sunday was a incredible day for the ladies, as four women made up the nine-way chop that ended Event #7 (Diane Linke, Nancy Thomas, Megan Andres, Abbey Daniels).  Earlier in Day 2, it looked as if Dolline Willis (Plantation, FL) was on a direct course for the final table, but the WSOPC-ring winner ended up finishing in 20th place ($2,300).  The cash was the second largest of Dolline's career, behind her circuit win at Palm Beach Kennel Club in 2014 ($365 No Limit Hold'em $12,474).
Willis is joined in the field by Robyn Marshman, Hyndi Khomutetsky, and the following:

Marc Duquette
Evan Teitelbaum
Richard Leger
Frederico Dabus
Robert Ingels
Ian Cohen
Daniel Cruz

Preecha "Kent" Taepakdee (Boynton Beach, FL)

Yesterday evening was the final satellite into Event #14, with (10) seats awarded, and one player earning cash.  Three of the ten satellite winners are in the field already, including Kent Taepakdee, Timothy Morgan, and Tom Gity.  The seat for Gity was the second he's earned this week for Event #14, busting his first bullet yesterday, but back in action today.  While two bullets would normally cost a player $2,200, Gity is playing for the discounted price of $260.

The satellite route into a larger buy-in event is an incredible option for players, especially those who may not have entered certain events because of the price point.  Listed below are the ten winners from last night's satellite:
  1. Jeffrey Goodman
  2. Tom Gity
  3. Timothy Morgan
  4. Jonathan Perez
  5. Francisco Frias-Feliz
  6. Preecha Taepakdee
  7. Jose Cabrera

FSPC Event 14 (Flight 1C): Final Event 14 Flight About To Get Underway

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 1 (Blinds 25/50)
Total Flight 1C Entries: N/A

To this point, a total of (161) entries have made up the Event 14 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em $150,000 GTD) field, with (32) players successfully bagging chips for tomorrow's Day 2.  The prize pool has already eclipsed the $150,000 guarantee, which will surely attract a larger field today, looking to capitalize on what's turning into a great event for value.

Of the (32) players to book tickets for tomorrow, one sits well atop the leaderboard, as John Depersio is almost 100,000 chips clear of his nearest competitor (Alexandre Fradin).  Those two names are the recipients of the chip leader bonus from the first two flights, and have earned seats into the 2017 Florida State Poker Championship $1,500 Main Event.  There are many big named players to earn a day off after bagging chips the past two days, including Maurice Hawkins, Ian O'Hara, Chris Bolek, Richard Kirsch, David Diaz, Jerry Wong, and Andrew Touchette (just to name a few).

Today's field will be full of satellite winner from the past two nights, players giving things a second (or third) shot to bag, and new names that waited until this final flight to play.  Action will be underway in less than (10) minutes, with live coverage of Flight 1C through it's conclusion (after Level 12).  A full list of combined chip counts from Flight 1A and Flight 1B will be posted shortly, followed by our first look at this Saturday field.

Saturday, July 22nd: Having Surpassed Guarantee, Event #14 Has One More Flight Today

ICYMI: The second of three Event #14 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em $150,000 GTD) flights wrapped up last night, as the tournament prize pool surpassed the $150,000 guarantee.  A total of (89) entries made up the Flight 1B field, bringing the combined total to (158).  There were a number of players returning to action after failing to bag chips on Thursday, including Ian O'Hara, Matt Smith, Michael Chiappetta and Joshua Kay.  We also saw players entering the event for the first time, like Maurice Hawkins, Stu Patterson, John Depersio, Jerry Wong, Sebastian Kos, and newly crowned WSOP bracelet winner Chris Bolek.

There was a big pot between John Depersio and Steve Karp before dinner break, that would end up shaping the rest of the day.  Depersio couldn't find a fold with pocket kings pre-flop, knowing that with the way the action unfolded, he could be behind (which is was, as Karp held pocket aces).  "I'm just not that good to fold in that spot," Depersio said after the hand, having flopped a set to claim the lead in the hand, and the chip lead in the field.

Depersio never looked back, and ended up comfortably bagging the flight's chip lead (372,500), earning a seat into next week's FSPC $1,500 Main Event.  A total of (19) players ended up bagging chips for Day 2, including the likes of Richard Kirsch (180,000), Maurice Hawkins (162,100), Jerry Wong (92,000), Ian O'Hara (81,300), and Chris Bolek (79,700).  After two flights, there are (32) players returning for tomorrow's Day 2, with more to join from this afternoon's Flight 1C.

Tournaments: Flight 1C of Event #14 is the only tournament/event on the schedule today, with action beginning at 11:00am.  The remaining satellite players will be in the field, along with players still looking to bag chips for Day 2.  Registration is open throughout play today, with those looking to enter sitting down to 20,000 starting stacks, and playing 40/50 minute levels over the course of action.

Promotions: The high hand promotions take another "breather" today, between yesterday's (11) hours worth of "turbo" high hands, tomorrow's (7) hours of $300 high hands (awarded every 15 minutes).  The "standard high hand" procedure is in place, awarded prizes to qualifying high hands every (30) minutes (with rollovers).

11:00am - FSPC Event #14 (Flight 1C): $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)

- Players start with 20,000 in tournament chips
- Late and re-entries for the first (12) levels, to include before the 1st card on Day 2
- Alternates and late entries will start with a full stack
- Level will last (40) minutes (Levels 1-6), transitioning to (50) minutes Levels 7+
- All Day 1's will play (12) complete levels or until 13% of the field remains (whichever comes first)
