FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Players Agree To ICM Deal, Paterson Awarded The Title

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 30 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 2/279

Before the cards got in the air for Level 30, the pair agreed to take a look at the ICM numbers.  Once the chip stacks were counted down, and numbers were inputted into the calculator, Paterson would earn $55,000 and Fradin $49,105.

Stu Paterson (Boca Raton, FL) Event #14 Winner - $55,000

Alexandre Fradin (Montpielier, France) 2nd Place - $49,105

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Heads-Up Chip Counts At Break

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 30 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 2/279

Stu Paterson and Alexandre Fradin are on a (10) minute break, and will be returning to Level 30, with new blinds of 40,000/80,000/10,000 (2,860,000 chip average).
  1. Alexander Fradin - 1,900,000
  2. Stu Patterson - 3,820,000
Fradin has just over (20) big blinds, but has had hard time mounting a comeback against Paterson, who has won a majority of the "larger" pots played heads up.  If play manages to reach Level 31 (50,000/100,000), there will only be (57) big blinds on the table.  This level will prove critical in determining the eventual winner of Event #14.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Paterson Finds Fortunate Runout To Bust Burbick In 3rd Place ($27,727)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 2/279

Corey Burbick (Davie, FL) 3rd Place - $27,727

Corey Burbick (Davie, FL) was the short stack when three-handed play began, but he did manage get himself close to (30) big blinds.  Corey limped the button, and after Alexandre Fradin folded, Stu Paterson went all-in (having Burbick covered).  Corey quickly made the call, and seemed prime to double-up, holding A♠ A♣ against Stu's A♦ Q♠.  The 9 2 K♠ 10 J♠ runout saw Paterson go perfect-perfect to make broadway, sending Burbick to the podium in third place ($27,727).

Play is now heads up, with the following chip counts:
  1. Alexandre Fradin - 2,200,000
  2. Stu Paterson - 3,520,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Updated Chip Counts As Level Transitions

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 3/279

The blinds continue to climb, as Level 29 began moments ago, with players now posting 30,000/60,000/5,000 (1,900,000) chip average.  Posted below are the updated chip counts at the beginning of Level 29:

  1. Corey Burbick - 1,300,000
  2. Alexandre Fradin - 2,400,000
  3. Stu Paterson - 1,850,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Fradin Doubles Through Paterson, Assumes Chip Lead

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 3/279

Alexander Fradin had been opening most every button, and kept getting three-bet by Paterson, with Stu getting the better of Alexandre in most of the hands.  Fradin opened to 115,000 on the button, and Stu three-bet (once again) to 325,000.  Fradin peered at his chips, and paused for about twenty seconds, before announcing that he was all-in.  Stu asked for an exact count, and after finding out that it was 1,250,000 to call, he pushed forward chips for a call.

Fradin: QQ
Paterson: A♣ J♣

Board: K♠ 7♣ 6♠ 3♠ 2

Fradin's pocket queens would hold up, and the two would flop positions on the leaderboard.  Paterson is now second in chips with 2,000,000 (40bb), while Fradin assumes the lead with 2,600,000 (52bb).

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Hockaday Leaves In 4th Place ($17,167), Three-Handed Counts

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 3/279

Anthony Hockaday (Plantation, FL) 4th Place - $17,167

Anthony Hockaday (Plantation, FL) was the shortest of the four players remaining, and after Stu Paterson opened to 120,000, Hockaday shoved for just over 300,000.  Paterson made the call, and would table J♠ J♣, up against Anthony's Q♠ 10♠.  The board would bring no help to Hockaday, who earns the second largest score of his career ($17,617), and gets his first cash since 2012.

Posted below are the three-handed chip counts:

  1. Corey Burbick - 1,400,000
  2. Alexandre Fradin - 1,700,000
  3. Stu Paterson - 2,400,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Paterson Doubles Through Fradin, Evens Things Up Top

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 4/279

The most recent hand between Stu Paterson and Alexandre Fradin was approached on the turn, with a board reading 10♠ 2♣ 5 7.  We know Fradin bet flop, and then called a raise from Paterson (just not sure of sizing).  After Fradin checked the turn, Paterson shoved for 710,000, with Fradin going into the tank for well over two minutes.  Fradin eventually made the call, and his J 5♠ would be behind the 2 5♣ of Paterson, and the river would bring no help.  The double brings both players within 100,000 chips over each other:

Alexandre Fradin - 2,000,000
Stu Paterson - 1,900,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Updated Chip Counts From Break

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 4/279

Players are currently on a (10) minute break, while the tournament staff colors off the orange (1,000 denomination) chips.  Action will resume with Level 28, and blinds of 25,000/50,000/5,000, and a 1,150,000 chip average.  There are just over (111) blinds in play heading to this level, meaning we should see action similar to that of Level 27 (where we lost three players).  Posted below are the updated chip counts from break:

  1. Corey Burbick - 1,450,000 (29bb)
  2. Alexandre Fradin - 2,800,000 (56bb)
  3. Stu Paterson - 900,000 (14bb)
  4. Anthony Hockaday - 380,000 (7bb)
Remaining Payouts:
  1. $61,157
  2. $43,022
  3. $27,727
  4. $17,167

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Miles Finds A Spot...Fradin Finds A Hand, TK Out In 5th Place ($13,251)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 4/279

TK Miles (Miami Beach, FL) 5th Place - $13,251

TK Miles (Miami Beach, FL) found himself sitting with just eight big blinds, and after action folded to him on the button, he'd shove with 4♠ 4♣.  Corey Burbick released his hand, and Alexandre Fradin made the call, having Miles dominated with K♠ K.  Unfortunately for Miles, the runout would bring no help to his hand, and he'd be eliminated in 5th place ($13,251).  Alexandre Fradin increases what was an overwhelming chip lead, as players head to break.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Pedro Aldave Loses Blind v. Blind Battle, Out In 6th Place ($10,976)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 6/279

Pedro Aldave (Hallandale Beach, FL) 6th Place - $10,976

The balance of power is shifting towards the way of Alexandre Fradin, who holds close to forty percent of the chips in play after eliminating Pedro Aldave.  Pedro found himself very short, and when action folded around to the two players in the blinds, Fradin would shove from the small.  Aldave quickly made the call, and his Q♣ 4♣ would be behind Fradin's K♣ 3, but very live heading to the flop.  The dealer would run out a board of A K 7♠ 7 6♠, with Aldave standing up on the turn, and wishing everyone else at the table good luck.  Pedro finishes in sixth place, and earns just under $11,000 for his efforts.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Updated Six-Handed Chip Counts

2017 Florida State Poker Championships

  3. Pedro Aldave - 340,000
  4. Stu Paterson - 1,500,000
  5. Anthony Hockaday - 650,000
  6. TK Miles - 510,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Depersio Gets Super Short, Busts In 7th Place ($9,225)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 7/279

John Depersio (Coral Springs, FL) 7th Place - ($9,225)

John Depersio (Coral Springs, FL) had a roller-coaster day, coming in on the shorter side, tripling up to over chip average, and then back down to a ten big blind stack.  That stack continued to get shorter, and he'd be left sitting with 4.5 bigs, and had posted the big blind.  Action folded around to Alexandre Fradin in the small blind, and he would place out enough chips to put John all-in.  John quickly called, and his A 3 would be leading the 10 6♠ of Fradin.  Alexandre out flopped him though, hitting a pair of tens, and holding up through the runout.  Depersio collects $9,225 for his 7th place finish, and brings his career earnings north of $350,000.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Wong Loses Race To Burbick, Out In 8th Place ($7,653)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 7/279

Jerry Wong (Brooklyn, NY) 8th Place - $7,653

Jerry Wong found himself on the wrong end of the three-way all-in earlier in the day's play, and had been grinding a stack well below average since that point.  After action folded to him, Jerry shoved for just under 300,000, with players folded behind one-by-one.  Action would be on Corey Burbick, who paused for a few moments, before announcing that he was all-in as well (for close to 800,000).  The blinds folded behind, and it would be Jerry's A♠ J♠ against the 8♣ 8 of Burbick.  The pocket eights would hold on the Q 7♠ 6♣ 2♣ 2 runout, and the former "November Niner" would become the event's 8th place finisher ($7,653).

Level 27 started moments ago, with blinds going up to 20,000/40,000/4,000, and a 817,000 chip average.  Updated counts will be posted in minutes.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Nissim Gozlan The Next To Go, Busts In 9th Place ($6,117)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 26 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 8/279

Nissim Gozlan (Plantation, FL) 9th Place - $6,117

Nissim Gozlan was the shortest stack remaining at the final table, and would open shove for 161,000, with action folding to Anthony Hockaday.  Anthony took a look at the tournament clock, before re-shoving for over 500,000.  The blinds folded behind, and Gozlan would be at risk, holding 4 4 against Hockaday's J♣ J.  "It's been nice playing with you guys," Nissim said, even before the dealer burned a card.  The deal would run out a board of A♣ 6 10♣ 9♠ 7, and Gozlan would become the second player of the day to bust.  Hockaday is over 700,000, and is playing an average stack for the first time today.

Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 9/279

Maurice Hawkins (Plantation, FL) 10th Place - $5,157

Maurice Hawkins opened UTG to 48,000, with Stu Patterson next to act, and three-betting to 146,000.  Hawkins made the call after action folded back around, leaving himself with about a half-sized pot bet remaining.  Hawkins checked the 7 7♠ 3♠ flop to Patterson, who verbalized all-in, with Maurice quickly calling.  The hands were tabled, with Maurice well ahead, holding Q♠ Q♣ against Stu's J♠ J♣.  That lead lasted just a few seconds though, as the J came on the turn, followed by the 6 on the river.

Hawkins quickly walked away from the table, heading to the podium to collect his $5,157.  Players continued with a few more hands, and are taking a (10) minute break.  Updated chip counts from the break will be posted momentarily.

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Another Three-Way All-In, Hockaday On The Winning End

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 14 - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($150,000 GTD)
Level 25 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 10/279

Left short from the three-way all-in to start the day, Anthony Hockaday open shoved UTG for 154,000.  Players folded around to Jerry Wong (on the button), who made the call, and watched as Maurice Hawkins re-shoved from the small blind (for just over 275,000).  Stu Patterson folded his big blind, and Wong would make the call:

Wong: K Q♣
Hockaday: 7♠ 7
Hawkins: A K♣

Runouts: K♠ 10♣ 7♣ 9♠ 5♠

Hockaday flopped a set to grab a commanding lead, and after sweating out the river, tripled up to 480,000.  Maurice would win a side pot for Jerry Wong, leaving players with the following chip counts:

Jerry Wong - 495,000
Anthony Hockaday - 490,000
Maurice Hawkins - 245,000

FSPC Event 14 (Day 3): Fireworks To Start The Day, Depersio Triples Up

Level 25 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 10/279

After Maurice Hawkins limped UTG, Anthony Hockaday raised to 75,000.  Players folded around to John Depersio, who shoved for 151,000.  With action then on Nissim Gozlan, players watched as he re-shoved for 269,000.  Hockaday announced a call, and the hands would be tabled:

Depersio: J J♣
Gozlan: A K♠
Hockaday: Q Q♣

Runout: A A♠ J♠ 5♠ 10

"I see an ace," Gozlan exclaimed as there was one in the window, but a jack would be hiding behind it. Depersio's flopped full house still needed to fade two straights, but it would manage to hold up, with the updated chip counts after the hand as such (Gozlan won a side pot against Hockaday):

John Depersio - 480,000
Anthony Hockaday - 255,000
Nissim Gozlan -236,000

Monday, July 24th: Final Event #14 Chapter Still To Be Written, FSPC Continues On

ICYMI: Players that bagged chips for Event #14's Day 2 returned to play yesterday afternoon, with the tournament scheduled to end late Sunday night/early Monday morning.  The tournament's structure allowed for some very deep play, and when the final table was reached, it was clear that the end was not it site.  At 12:20am, the remaining ten players bagged up their chips, ready to return this afternoon at 1:00pm to finish things out.  The combined tournament earnings of the remaining final table players is over $10,000,000, with names like Jerry Wong, Stu Patterson, TK Miles, Corey Burbick, and Maurice Hawkins still left.

When play resumes at 1:00pm, action will begin with Level 25, and blinds of 12,000/24,000/4,000.  Listed below are the chip counts (and seating assignments) for the players returning, with Stu Patterson coming back with the chip lead:

  1. Corey Burbick - 775,000
  2. Alexandre Fradin - 811,000
  3. John Depersio - 157,000
  4. Pedro Aldave - 440,000

  10. TK Miles - 808,000
Live coverage of the final table will begin the moment the cards are in the air, and will continue through the crowning of an Event #14 champion.

Tournaments: The FSPC schedule continues on today, as we get closer to the $1,500 FSPC Main Event ($500,000 GTD) this weekend.  The first of two events begins at 11:00am, as the cards get in the air of the ever-popular "Structure Beast."  Event #16 is a $175 buy-in No Limit Hold'em event with a $15,000 guarantee, and one of the best structures around (for that price point).  Players in the tournament sit down to starting stacks of 12,000 units, and play levels of (30) minutes throughout the event.

The evening time slot (6:00pm) is filled by another player-favorite event, as the $60 No Limit Hold'em $12,000 GTD (Event #17) tournament makes an appearance on the FSPC schedule.  The tournament, which usually attract field sizes north of (250) entries, has more of a turbo-ish type structure.  Players in the tournament sit down to starting stacks of 14,000 units, and play levels of (20) minutes of the course of the event.

Promotions: Outside of the "standard high hand" promotion, there will be "Turbo High Hands" from 9:00am-12:00pm.  During that window of time, $100 will be awarded to the qualifying high hand every (10) minutes (rollovers apply).

11:00am - FSPC Event #16 - $175 No Limit Hold'em "Structure Beast ($15,000 GTD)

- Players will begin with a 12,000 starting stack
- Late and re-entries for the first (10) levels

- Players will begin with a 14,000 starting stack

Level 24 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)
Total Entries: 279
Players Remaining: 10/279

After the final table redraw, there were still 43:00 minutes in the level to be played, with action pretty uneventful during that time...with the exception of one hand.  John Depersio had Nissim Gozlan all-in and at risk, holding A♣ A against Nissim's Q♠ J.  Gozlan would love the 9♠ 10♠ K♠ flop, especially holding the only spade in the hand.  Depersio was drawing thin, and although the board did pair on the turn (giving him more outs), the river would not bring any of his outs.  Gozlan doubled to over 260,000, and managed to survive through the end of the level.

Players bags are being verified at the moment, but the unofficial Day 3 counts are listed below:

  1. Corey Burbick - 775,000
  2. Alexandre Fradin - 811,000
  3. John Depersio - 157,000
  4. Pedro Aldave - 440,000

  7. Maurice Hawkins - 361,000
  8. Stu Patterson - 1,169,000
  9. Anthony Hockaday - 537,000
  10. TK Miles - 808,000
