Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Event #10 Ends In A Five-Way Deal, Chris Lawson The Declared Winner

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 5

Event #10 ends in a five-way deal, with the players pictured above (from left to right): Chris Lawson, Chad Vetstein, Mitchell Smith, Gerald Limber, Jason Holzberg.

After the elimination of William Underdown, the five remaining players asked to here the ICM numbers (for the third time).  The tournament staff read the new payouts aloud, and after just a few minutes of deliberation, the group came to an agreement.   Listed below are the payouts that were agreed to, with Chris Lawson the event's declared winner.
  1. Chris Lawson (Caddo Mills, TX) $26,293
  2. Jason Holzberg (Plainview, NY) $25,114
  3. Chad Vetstein (Boston, MA) $21,526
  4. Mitchell Smith (Winnsboro, SC) $18,962
  5. Gerald Limber (Rockville, MD) $15,478

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): The Short Stacks Having A Problem Doubling, Underdown Out on 6th Place ($7,845)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 5

William Underdown (Deerfield Beach, FL) earned his largest score since April of this year, when he was part of a chop that ended the "April $100,000" ($360 No Limit Hold'em).

William Underdown was left in the unenviable spot of being the shortest stack, which wasn't a good spot to be at this particular final table.  When action folded to him, William shoved for just over (13) big blinds, and would be called by Jason Holzberg (who was in the big blind).  Underdown was behind, holding A♠ 7 against the A♣ K of Holzberg, with the dealer fanning out a flop of 5♣ 6♠ 9.  Underdown added outs to a straight, but would miss on the turn and river, exiting the final table in sixth place ($7,845).

After William's elimination, the remaining five players began discussing an ICM chop once again.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Newman Eliminated On Final Hand Of Level 27

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 6

Stewart Newman (Coral Gables, FL) was hampered by a short stack for most of the final table, ending up exiting the tournament in 7th place ($6,555).

Just as the final seconds were ticking off the clock for Level 27, Jerry Limber opened the button to 115,000.  Jason Holzberg made the call out of the small blind, followed by Stewart Newman three-bet shoving out of the big.  Limber quickly folded his hand, but Holzberg wasn't going to release so easily, asking for an exact count.  Newman's all-in was for 675,000, and one Jason heard the amount, he verbalized a call.  It would be the A J of Holzberg against Newman's K♣ Q♣, with Jason getting the A♠ 7 7flop.  Newman would need to run out perfect in order to win, and once the 5♠ fell on the turn, he'd be drawing dead.  Newman would earn $6,555 for his seventh place finish, with players beginning talks of a chop after his departure.  Those deal discussions would quickly fall apart after the ICM numbers were read aloud, so the cards are once again in the air.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Santana Noronha On The Wrong End Of The "Classic Race," Departs In 8th Place ($5,265)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 7

Santana Noronha (Davie, FL) was one card away from scoring a well needed double, but couldn't fade the ace on the river.

Returning from break as one of the two shortest stacks, Santana Noronha (Davie, FL) was looking for a spot to double up.  With action folding to him in the hijack, Santana shoved for just over 580,000 (11bb), and would be called by Chris Lawson (in the small blind).  It was the "classic race," with Noronha holding Q♠ Q♣ against the A K of Lawson.  Santana stood and watched the dealer fan out a flop of 10♠ 9♠ 5, followed by the 8♠ on the turn.  Lawson needed a non-spade ace or king to score the elimination, and would get just that, with the A♣ on the river.

Noronha wished his table mates good luck, and headed to the tournament podium to collect his money ($5,265 for 8th place).  Lawson would chip up to 2,100,000 after scoring the knockout.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Updated Chip Counts From The Final Table

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 8

The remaining eight players from the final table are heading on another ten minute break, and will be returning to Level 27, with blinds of 25,000/50,000/5,000 (1,697,000 chip average).  Listed below are the updated counts from the final table:
  1. Stewart Newman - 880,000
  2. Chad Vetstein - 1,400,000
  3. Chris Lawson - 1,500,000
  4. Mitchell Smith - 2,700,000
  5. William Underdown - 790,000
  6. Jerry Limber - 2,800,000
  7. Jason Holzberg - 2,900,000
  8. Santana Noronha - 815,000

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Toorgeman Gets It In Good, But Finds Himself On The Rail In 9th Place ($3,985)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 8

Haim Toorgeman (Kenner, LA) is now just shy of $400,000 in lifetime earnings after this 9th place finish, which was worth $3,985.

"All-in and a call," could be heard from the final table, with both Jason Holzberg and Haim Toorgeman standing up.  Haim was the player at risk, but was ahead with A K♣ against the A♣ Q♣ of Holzberg.  The flop would come out Q♠ 9 2, flipping the script on Toorgeman, and sending him to the rail.  Jason would assume the chip lead after scooping in the massive pot, heading to break with close to 2,900,000.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Lester Trimino The First To Exit Final Table ($3,275)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 26 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/4,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 9

Lester Trimino (Miami, FL) earns the third largest cash of his career ($3,275) with this final table finish, bringing his lifetime earnings over $24,000.

Mitchell Smith came into the final table in shove mode, and would double through Stewart Newman just a few hands in.  Now while he secured the double-up, Smith was well below average, and didn't have a stack with much fold equity.  With action folding around to Mitchell on the button, he would shove for close to 700,000, getting called by Lester Trimino (Miami, FL).  Trimino woke up with J J♠ in the big blind, up against Mitchell's K♣ Q♣.  The dealer fanned out a flop of J♣ 10♣ 6♣, giving Mitchell a flush, and Trimino top set.  The turn and river would not pair the board, and Trimino would be left with less than ten big blinds.  Lester was eliminated shortly thereafter, becoming the first final table casualty.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Final Table Is Reached, After The Elimination Of Oktay Altinbas

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 25 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/4,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 10

Oktay Altinbas (Dania, FL) bubbles this Event #10 final table, but earns himself $3,275 in the process.

"Payout...Table 2," Oktay Altinbas yelled from his seat, having just lost an all-in to Mitchell Smith.  His elimination meant that Event #10 had reached it's final table, and the players would experience their final redraw of the tournament.  Listed below are the new seating assignments for the final table, along with a reminder of the payouts that remain:
  1. Stewart Newman
  2. Chad Vetstein
  3. Chris Lawson
  4. Mitchell Smith
  5. William Underdown
  6. Lester Trimino
  7. Jerry Limber

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Ory Hen Exits Just Short Of The Final Table, Eliminated In 12th Place ($3,275)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 25 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/4,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 11

Florida tournament legend Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) was in line to make yet another Isle Poker final table, but ran into the pocket kings of Jerry Limber.

Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) was looking to win his second major title in as many months, but was eliminated moments ago by Jerry Limber.  Hen open shoved with A♠ Q♣, but ran into the K♠ K of Jerry Limber, and was unable to find any help in the runout.  This is Ory's sixteenth cash of the year, bringing his 2017 total earnings over $130,000.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Santana Busts Yet Another, As Tony Valiente Exits In 13th Place ($2,595)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 25 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/4,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 12

Tony Valiente (Coconut Grove, FL) fell victim to Santana Noronha as well, eliminated just a few hands after Raymond Roberty.

The Event #10 field is only two eliminations away from the final table, as Santana Noronha eliminates another short stack.  After Raymond Roberty's exit, Tony Valiente would be left the shortest player in the field, sitting with just over twelve big blinds.  Valiente got his remaining chips in with A 6 against the K♠ Q of Noronha, and although he was ahead, watched as Santana out flopped him to grab the lead.  The K♣ 8 6♣ flop did hit both players, but Tony needed to find help on the turn or river to survive.  Neither street brought help to Valiante, who exited the tournament area to collect his 13th place money ($2,595).

Santana Noronha - 1,200,000 (40bb)
Tony Valiente - Eliminated in 13th place ($2,595)

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Raymond Roberty Flopped Dead By Santana, Eliminated In 14th Place ($2,595)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 24 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/3,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 13

Raymond Roberty (Miramar, FL) looked to be in good shape when the cards were tabled for his all-in, but ended up exiting the tournament area before the river even hit the felt.

Purely coincidental, all of the larger stacks were at Table 1 after the redraw, while Table 2 hosted the shortest stacked players in the field.  Two of those short players did battle moments ago, with the players holding a 1,000 chip difference in stacks.  Santana Noronha shoved from early position, and would be called by Raymond Roberty, who was in the big blind.  When the cards were tabled, it would be the A♣ J♠ of Santana, versus the J♠ J of Roberty.  There was an ace right in the window, and once the dealer fanned out the flop of A♠ A 5♠, Roberty would be drawing dead.  Raymond (Miramar, FL) headed to the podium to collect his 14th place money ($2,595), while Santana chipped up to 900,000.

Santana Noronha - 900,000 (37bb)
Raymond Roberty - Eliminated in 14th place ($2,595)

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): Michael Lutz Eliminated In 15th Place ($2,595)

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10
$360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 24 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/3,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 14

Michael Lutz (Louisville, KY) was below the ten big blind mark, and was unable to find his double-up against William Underdown.

William Underdown is on a little heater, as he doubled through Oktay Altbinas moments ago, chipping up to just over 600,000.  Just two hands later, Michael Lutz shoved from under-the-gun, with action folding all the way around to Underdown (in the big blind).  William took little time before calling, flipping over A♠ K♣ (the hand he doubled with against Altbinas).  He'd be in commanding position against Lutz's K♠ J, with the board running out 8 2 3♣ 7♠ 10.

Underdown would go from 300,000 to 1,000,000 in a matter of five minutes, and now is above the chip average, for the first time in recent memory.

William Underdown - 1,000,000 (41bb)
Michael Lutz - Eliminated in 15th Place ($2,595)

Jason Holzberg (Plainview, NY) went from middle of the pack to chip leader, in the matter of one hand, causing Andre Rakusa's collapse.

The action at Table 3 was caught on the flop, in a hand between Jason Holberg (Plainview, NY) and Andre Rakusa.  With the Q♠ 3♣ 4 flop on the felt, Holzberg checked-raised Andre Rakusa, who had continued for 41,000.  Jason put aside the 41,000, and added three blue chips (worth 25,000 each) on top, before pushing the 116,000 stack across his cards.  Rakusa would then sit still for about thirty seconds, before announcing that he was all-in (for over 840,000).  Once Holzberg made the call, we'd have a pot worth close to 1,500,000, with the hands about to be tabled.  Andre showed A♠ A♣, but was behind the Q 4 of Holzberg.  The turn and river would bring Andre no help, and he'd see his top five stack chopped down to just over 100,000.

Jason Holzberg - 1,570,000 (78bb)
Andre Rakusa - 115,000 (5bb)

Andre Rakusa was eliminated just a few hands later.

Isle Classic Event #10 (Day 2): William Underdown Takes Out Two

2017 Isle Classic | Event #10

Level 20 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Event #10 Entries: 679
Event #10 Players Remaining: 46

William Underdown (Deerfield Beach, FL) is one of a small group of players that are pushing the 1,000,000 chip mark.

The timing was perfect, as Table 3 was approached just as one of the largest pots of the event was playing out.  Nassim Gozlan had opened to 20,000, with Bryan Rosen three-bet shoving for 150,000.  Two players folded behind, leaving the action on William Underdown, who took some time before flatting.  Gozlan also flatted the 150,000, leaving himself just 20,000 behind, as the three players saw a flop of 7 7♠ 4♠.  Underdown checked to Gozlan, who said aloud, "You're going to check that...I'm all-in, I want to go home."

William made the call, and watched as Gozlan turned over A♣ K♣, and Rosen A♠ Q♣.  Underdown was ahead with 10 10♣, and after the turn (5) and river (4) ran out clean, he'd become one of the chip leaders.  His opponents would collect $860 for their finishes, while Underdown chipped up to 915,000.
