FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Flight 1D Players In The Money, But The Story Is Henry Billete

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/4,000)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 132
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 17

Henry Billete (Hialeah, FL) has eyes on that Event #14 seat that's up for grabs, as he leads the Flight 1D field by a large margin.

With the elimination of Rodney Moret-Rojas just moments ago, the Flight 1D field is now in the money.  While that would normally be news, the real story is Henry Billete, who has completely turned David Coughlin's day upside-down.  Coughlin, who was the chip lead just under an hour ago, was eliminated from play three spots short of the money.  His final hand was just a formality, as he was all-in for less than seven big blinds, but it was a clash with Billete that saw his chips disappear.  Henry now has over 500,000, and is looking to run away with the chip lead bonus.

Henry Billete - 515,000 (128bb)

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): It's A Three Horse Race, As The Field Approaches The Money

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 14 (Blinds 2,000/3,000/3,000)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 132
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 21

Michael Spadafore (Delray Beach, FL) is one of the chip leaders, as the field comes close to reaching the money.

With play now just a handful of eliminations from the money, we are seeing some pretty large stacks emerge across the field.  David Coughlin has continued his solid start, and turned that into what is a chip leading stack (330,000).  After having his pocket aces hold in a crucial spot, Michael Spadafore (Delray Beach, FL) has put himself in second position, with a stack of 230,000. Spadafore has three final table finishes this year (in recurring events), and lifetime earnings of $15,456.  His best cash came in May of last year, when he final tabled a recurring $130 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 GTD), finishing in third place (for $2,991).

David Coughlin - 330,000
Michael Spadafore - 230,000
Nagui Yassa - 220,000

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Puccio Has Morford "Pipped," Gets The Full Double

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/2,000)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 132
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 33

Thomas Puccio (Miami Beach, FL) chose to see a flop, rather than four-bet pre, which may have helped towards doubling through Jeff Morford.

After Thomas Puccio opened the action at Table 3 with a raise, he'd immediately be three-bet by Jeff Morford.  Players would fold behind, and Puccio decided to make the call, as the two players saw a flop of A♠ 3♠ 2♣.  Puccio checked to Morford, who continued with a bet of 4,000.  Puccio then check-raised to 10,000, with Morford four-bet ripping, and Thomas calling off (his stack was 48,000):

Puccio: A K♣
Morford: A J♣

Turn: 6♣
River: 3

When the cards were tabled, Morford would lament his shove, seeing that his hand was in second play.  His ace was not good enough, and the runout would give both players two-pair, but Puccio held the nut kicker.

Thomas Puccio - 110,000
Jeff Morford - 22,000

Players will be heading on their third break at the end of this level, returning to Level 13, and new blinds of 1,500/2,500/2,500.

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Things Are "Back To Normal" For David Coughlin, After Rough Event #4 Start

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/1,600)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 132
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 39

David Coughlin (Lighthouse Point, FL) has to be feeling much better about today's Event #4 entry, after he was unable to gain any traction during Flight 1A.

Tournament success will always breed confidence, but it can also give a player the sense that things will just always run that same course.  After experiencing the highs of final tabling a major tournament (Event #1 of this series), David Coughlin quickly experienced the lesser side of variance.  His first entry in this tournament was just the opposite of his opening event run, as Coughlin would gain some steam, but quickly see things fizzle out.  Today's entry has been a totally different story, as it kind of resembles David's opening flight run from Event #1.  He's up to 120,000, and sits with close to double the chip average, as play creeps towards the money (still 23 eliminations away).

David Coughlin - 120,000 (75bb)

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Updated Chip Counts From The Flight 1D Field

2018 Florida State Poker Championship

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/1,200)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 132
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 52

Yi Ding (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) could lock up a career best score this evening, just by bagging chips, and assuring himself a Day 2 min-cash.

Now that the players have been informed of the numbers that get paid...and reach Day 2, the focus is on doing just that.  A lap around the field yielded the following chip counts, with Yi Ding (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) currently leading those remaining, as a stack of over 150,000 sits in front of him.  Ding's tournament resume shows just one recorded result, which came during a recurring event on June's schedule.  Ding chopped an $80 No Limit Hold'em ($2,500 GTD) event, earning $700 for third place money.  Regardless of past results, Yi is one the right path towards a bag at the moment, pacing the Flight 1D field at registration's close.

Yi Ding - 155,000 (129bb)
Vladimir Kolvachuk - 138,000 (115bb)
Erik Silevitch - 120,000 (100bb)
Yuan Shen - 117,000 (97bb)
Ray Millard - 80,000 (66bb)
David Coughlin - 75,000 (62bb)
Marcin Plewinski - 65,000 (54bb)
Alan Saltzman - 65,000 (54bb)

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Official Numbers Are In For Flight 1D, As The Field Closes With () Entries

With the cards back in the air for Level 9, registration for Flight 1D of Event #4 is officially closed.  There were a total of (132) entries, of which (63) players are still alive, and hoping to reach the money/bagging process.  The prize fund from this flight is $39,600, which brings the combined total to $162,210.

Here are the numbers that players have been waiting for:

A total of (17) players from the flight will reach the money, with the following payouts below:

9-11. $650
12-14. $550
15-17.$450

The flight will conclude when (8) players remain.

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): A Year Removed From Last FSPC Title Win, Stuart Paterson Joins The Field

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/800)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 124

Stuart Paterson (Boca Raton, FL) joined the action in the middle of Level 7, returning to the Isle Poker Room after a WSOP Main Event run that ended during Day 3.

Just about a year ago (less a few days), Stuart Paterson (Boca Raton, FL) was negotiating a heads-up chop of Event #14, during the 2017 Florida State Poker Championship.  The $1,100 No Limit Hold'em tournament attracted (279) entries, and had a prize pool of $280,280.  Paterson's deal would see him earn $55,000 for first place, and the coveted FSPC trophy that comes along with the win.  At the time, it brought Paterson's career earnings (live) to just over $884,000.  With some results recorded after the win, he's now up to $897,981.

It's a sign we see during the FSPC each summer, as the bigger names begin returning home to Florida, after a summer of WSOP events.  Matt Smith (Margate, FL) also joined the action moments ago, taking his seat at Table 3, towards the end of Level 7.

Players will be heading on their second break of the day at the end of this level, with registration closing once play resumes (Level 9).  At that point, we will bring you the official numbers from Flight 1D, and then delve into some updated chip counts from the field.

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Vladimir Kovalchuk Out Of The Gates Strong, First To Eclipse Century Mark

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/600)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 119

Vladimir Kovalchuk (Hallandale Beach, FL) leads the Flight 1D field, with just over an hour remaining in open registration.

There have been a handful of players to get off to a hot start this afternoon, but none better than Vladimir Kovalchuk (Hallandale Beach, FL), who has over 100,000.  Kovalchuk, who is originally from the Ukraine, has a very impressive tournament resume.  Vladimir has recorded (58) results on Hendon Mob, and has career earnings totaling over $116,000.  Kovalchuk's best result came back in 2010, when he finished third in a $1,850 No Limit Hold'em event, hosted by the Russian Poker Tour.  The finish was worth $25,550, and helped jumpstart what has been a nice tournament resume for Vladimir.

Vladimir Kovalchuk - 110,000 (183bb)

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Early Aces No Good For Wiegrefe, Cracked By Ken Sons

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 6 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 113

Ken Sons may have left Jamie Wiegrefe with just six big blinds after cracking his pocket aces, but Jamie is making a solid effort at trying to grind back to starting stack.

Just like Rodney Moret-Rojas yesterday, pocket aces were cracked early, this time held by Jamie Wiefgrefe (Miami, FL).  We approached Table 11 just as Wiegrefe, who chopped the $200 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD) in May, shoved over a bet from Ken Sons.  On the K♣ 8♠ 9♣ flop, there was no version of Ken laying down A♣ K♠, and he would be at risk after calling.  Wiegrefe turned over his A A♠, and winced in disgust, after the dealer placed down the K on the turn.  There would be no miracle river for Wiegrefe, who would be left with 3,000 chips, after matching the stack of Sons.

Ken Sons - 33,000 (66bb)
Jamie Wiegrefe - 3,000 (6bb)

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Zarcadoolas Arrives After Summer In Las Vegas

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/400)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 102

Matthew Zarcadoolas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) headed to Las Vegas with some confidence, already surpassing his career best in earnings (year to date), when he stepped on the plane.

There are a few new faces to have joined the action during break, including that of Matthew Zarcadoolas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), who returns to the Isle Poker Room after spending time in Las Vegas for the WSOP. This has been a banner year for Matthew, as he has over $152,000 in earnings to this point, with still four months remaining.  Those earnings are career best for Zarcadoolas (in terms of yearly), thanks in part to a six-figure score in the $1,100 WPTDS No Limit Hold'em event during the Lucky Hearts Poker Open (3rd for $100,579).

The summer wasn't too bad for Zarcadoolas either, as he cashed in three events, worth over $16,000 in earnings.  With the Vegas lights now behind him, Matthew takes his seat in Flight 1D, hoping to find himself a bag for Monday's Day 2.

Other arrivals during break included that of Daniel Genacthe, Ory Hen, and Alexis Hernandez.

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Moret-Rojas Back After Yesterday's Tough Loss, Looking For A Better Result

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 4 (Blinds 200/300/300)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 91

Rodney Moret-Rojas (Troy, MI) hopes to put yesterday's proceedings behind him, as he sits down with a blank slate in Flight 1D, hoping to paint a picture that has a bag full of chips.

Yesterday's afternoon action ended abruptly for Rodney Moret-Rojas (Troy, MI), as his pocket aces were cracked by the pocket kings of Raminder Singh.  Raminder went on to cash in the flight, while Rodney was left waiting for Flight 1C (last night's flight).  Rojas was unsuccessful in bagging chips in that flight as well, and is now back in the field, taking another shot at finding a bag.  This has been a breakout year for Rodney in regards to tournament poker, as he picked up his first WSOP Circuit ring, after winning the $365 No Limit Hold'em Monster Stack at Coconut Creek ($34,704).  He might not be sporting the hardware at the table, but the result stands regardless, and highlights a resume that boasts $63,911 in earnings.  Some other late arrivals to this Flight 1D field include:

Donald Williams
Michael Tufaro
Thomas Puccio
Jamie Wiegrefe
Stanley Aufseeser
Alan Saltzman
Michael Tait
Andre Rakusa

Players will head on their first break of the day at the end of this level, returning to Level 5, and new blinds of 200/400/400.

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Thomas Henderson Returns For The First Time In Recent Memory

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 70

Originally from Texas, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson has a lot of history here in South Florida, playing for the Miami Dolphins during his NFL career.

It's been a long time since Thomas Henderson (Austin, TX) recorded a tournament cash, in fact it was eight years ago, during this very series.  Henderson went deep in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em FSPC Championship Event, finishing in 20th place, which was worth $4,296.  Henderson, a former NFL linebacker, actually won the lottery back in 2000 (Texas Lottery for $28,000,000).  He then started a charity, and made major donations to the Austin community where he grew up.  Henderson now travels across the countries giving lectures, and is the author of two books.

Thomas headlines the first look at notables in this Flight 1D field, joining the likes of:

Cory Zeidman
Tom Gity
Eddie Uehara
Marc Luquete
Eric Brewster
David Coughlin
David Miller
Frank Traino

FSPC Event #4 (Flight 1D): Weekend Flights Expected To Bring Big Numbers, Flight 1D About To Begin

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #4 | $360 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 1 (Blinds 100/100)
Total Flight 1D Entries: N/A

Event #4 ($360 No Limit Hold'em $200,000 GTD) is officially at it's halfway point, with Friday's pair of flights now in the books.  The two flights attracted a total of (247) entries, of which (32) players reached the money, and (14) players bagged chips for Day 2 (Monday).  The overall prize pool now sits at $122,610, and with three of the busiest flights still yet to come, we will have yet another FSPC tournament that crushes the guarantee.

Of the (14) players to reach the bagging process, two were awarded chip lead bonuses, and seats into the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em FSPC Main Event.  Gerardo "Jerry" Gonzalez bagged up the Flight 1B lead with 617,000, while Erik Nomberg packed away 698,000 at the end of Flight 1C.  Jim Hayes still holds the overall lead with 879,000 (from Flight 1A), a number that may possibly hold up through the next three flights.

The larger the flight, the larger the end of day chips counts...that's usually the equation.  Today's numbers are expected to be the largest we've seen, with Flight 1D action getting underway momentarily.  Live blogged coverage will offer official counts from the first three flights, followed by a look at some of the recognizable faces in the crowd.

Saturday, July 14th: Event #4 Of The FSPC Continues To Grow, Already On Pace To Crush Giuarantee

ICYMI: Event #4 ($360 No Limit Hold'em $200,000 GTD) is officially at it's halfway point, with Friday's pair of flights now in the books.

Tournaments: Two of the final three flights are on today's schedule, and they sandwich another satellite into Event #4.  Flight 1C gets underway at 11:00am, and follows the same rules that have applied for the three to come before it.  Players will be sitting down to 20,000 units, playing (30) minute levels up until Level 15, at which point things transition to (40) minutes.  Registration is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows), allowing over four hours to join the action.  Once registration is closed, the 12.5% Day 1 payouts will be posted, and players will be informed how many will reach the bagging process.

While Flight 1C is going on, a $90 No Limit Hold'em Satellite Into Event #4 will get underway, with action starting at 2:00pm.  The satellite is structured with 8,000 unit starting stacks, and levels that last (20) minutes throughout.  Registration is open through Level 8, with (5) seats guaranteed to be awarded.

Flight 1D of Event #4 will then close the action, with the cards in the air at 6:00pm, and players wrapping up action somewhere around 4:00-5:00am.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-6:00pm, with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.

Then, from 6:00pm-12:00am, players can win up to $1,500 every (30) minutes.  If the high hand is made on the flop, and then qualifies as the winning hand for the half hour, the player will be awarded $1,500 (no limit Hold'em games only).  If the hand is flopped in a limit Hold'em game or tournament, and it holds up for the thirty minute period, they will be awarded $750.

Following that promotion, from 12:00am-9:00am, eligible high hands will be awarded $100 every hour.

It should also be noted that players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand.  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
