CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Hand-For-Hand Lasts All Of One Hand, As The Flight 1B Field Reaches The Money

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 18 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/8,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 13

On the first hand of bubble play, Brent Speer would be all-in at risk, after having been called by James Hall.  Speer would be flipping for his tournament life, as the rest of the table (and field) watched intently:

Speer: A♠ 8
Hall: 3 3

Runout: J♠ J 5♣ 10♣ 2♣

While Speer was unable to flop a pair, he did earn extra outs with the paired board.  Both players were calling for cards on the turn and river, and even though none of their requests were actually granted, the runout favored Hall.  Brent Speer would be the Flight 1B bubble boy, with the remaining players all guaranteed at least $500.

The official results from this flight will be posted as each pay jump is reached, with official counts to follow the bagging process (along with the winner of the chip lead bonus).

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): James Hall Takes Hold Of Massive Chip Lead, After Winning 380,000 Pot Against Aaronson

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 17 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/6,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 14

James Hall will definitely have the chip lead when the field enters the money, and looks to be the favorite to bag the overall chip lead as well.

We weren't present at the table when the largest pot of the flight went down, but Daniel Pearlman was nice enough to give us a very quick recap.  James Hall held 10♠ 10♣ on a Q♠ Q♣ 10 9 board, with Rick Aaronson holding 9♠ 9♣.  With both players the proud owner of full houses, all of the chips got in on the turn, for a pot worth just over 380,000.  There would be no miracle river for Aaronson, who would drop down to 50,000, while Hall assumed the top spot on the leaderboard (386,000).

Players are still two eliminations from the money, as this second opening flight enters it's ninth hour of play.

***Update*** As we are typing this post, the field lost Morris Heider, with the remaining players on the direct money bubble.

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Puccio Left Super Short, Runs Into The Pocket Aces Of Amin Hosein

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 16 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/5,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 18

Amin Hosein (Trinidad & Tobago) had the dream situation, holding pocket aces against ace-king, with a super clean runout.

In order for this flight to move along, there are going to need to be some coolers, which we just happened to see unfold at Table 3.  Thomas Puccio was all-in pre with A K, but ran into the A♣ A of Amin Hosein.  After the board ran out clean for Hosein, Puccio would have to ship over 55,500 the way of Amin, leaving himself with just over two big blinds.

Amin Hosein - 120,000 (24bb)
Thomas Puccio - 13,000 (2bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Rick Aaronson Eliminates David Poces, After Brutal Runout

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/4,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 18

Rick Aaronson was content getting it all-in on the turn, holding top-and-bottom pair, especially when he saw that he'd be up against a smaller two-pair.

We were getting ready to tell blog followers to buckle their seatbelts, as it didn't look like we were going to be losing anyone for a while.  So much for that, as David Poces was eliminated just moments ago, at the hands of Rick Aaronson.  In a blind v. blind situation, Poces held J 3 on a K♠ J 7♣ 3♠ board, but was up against Rick's K♣ 3♣.  The river would bring the 3, giving both players the full house, but sending home Poces short of the money.  Aaronson chipped up to 240,000 with the pot, and is now in contention to bag the Flight 1B chip lead bonus.

The chip average heading into Level 15 is just over (25) big blinds, and with the lack of short stacks remaining, we could be looking at a long evening (to both reach the money, and the bagging process).

Rick Aaronson - 240,000 (60bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Raminder Is Singh-in The Blues Once Again, Eliminated Short Of The Money

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 14 (Blinds 2,000/3,000/3,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 20

Marcin Plewinski (Coconut Creek, FL) just eliminated Raminder Singh, sending Singh home short of the money for the second flight in the row (he was the Flight 1A bubble).

It was another roller-coaster day for Raminder Singh (Delray Beach, FL), who returned from break with a stack over 100,000, but just departed the tournament area (short of the money).  Singh lost a couple of sizable pots to Joel Rosenblatt, before getting it all-in pre-flop against Marcin Plewinski.  Marcin held A♠ A♣ against Singh's 5 5♠, and while Raminder was able to turn an open-ended straight draw, the extra outs would not amount on the river.  Plewinski pads his Flight 1B chip lead with the pot, while Singh exits the field short of the money, for the second day in a row.

Marcin Plewinski - 310,000 (103bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Tony Mucci Scores The "Triple-Double"

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/1,600)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 32

The triple-double is a great thing in basketball, but it's also a solid tournament stat-line, as Tony Mucci just learned over at Table 1.

At the halfway point of Level 10, Tony Mucci (Boca Raton, FL) was all-in for 7,000 pre-flop, and ended up getting called in two spots.  After the K♠ 7♠ 7♣ flop, one of his active opponents bet out, eliciting a fold from the third player in the hand.  Tony quickly turned over A♠ K, and would eventually win the hand, besting his opponent's K♣ 10♣.

Less than fifteen minutes after Mucci's triple-up, he'd be all-in pre-flop once again (for 23,400), and this time called by Raminder Singh.  The action would fold behind, and the cards would find their backs:

Mucci: 10 10♣
Singh: A J♣

Runout: K♣ Q♠ 9♠ J 8

When the jack hit the turn, Mucci looked dejected, but quickly noticed that the card made him a straight.  When no ten showed up on the river, Tony secured the double...after the triple...giving him the ever-elusive triple-double.

Tony Mucci - 50,000 (31bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Updated Chip Counts From The Field

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/1,200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 39

Marcin Plewinski (Coconut Creek, FL) finds himself atop the leaderboard, but it's still a little early to start talking about favorite to bag the chip lead bonus.
With action now one level removed from the registration break, we've seen a big shift in the landscape of the leaderboard, with three new names claiming the podium spots.  Marcin Plewinksi (Coconut Creek, FL) now has a stack of 165,000, which holds the top spot, but is trailed closely by Mark Medro and Pedro Palacio.  Plewinski has already seen a lot of multi-flight tournament success here at the Isle Poker Room, most recently chopping the $250 No Limit Hold'em ($50,000 GTD) that was run in February (4th place for $6,217).  Updated counts from the field are listed below:

Marcin Plewinski - 165,000 (137bb)
Marek Madro - 148,000 (123bb)
Pedro Palacio - 125,000 (104bb)
Raminder Singh - 120,000 (100bb)

Sandy Sanchez - 55,000 (45bb)
Scott Levitt - 30,000 (25bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Second Flight Of Event #1 Sees Registration Close With (98) Entries

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/1,000)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 98
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 46

Cards are back in the air for Level 9, with the registration for Flight 1B of the CPPT Event #1 now official closed.  The second of six flights attracted a total of (98) entries, which equates to a prize pool of $29,400.  When you combine that with the numbers from Flight 1A, the Event #1 overall prize pool now sits at $68,100.  Listed below, are the Day 1 payouts for this flight, with action for the night stopping when (5) players remain:

6-7. $700
8-10. $600
11-13. $500

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): After Bubbling The Money In Flight 1A, Raminder Singh Heads To Registration Break As Chip Leader

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/800)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 93

Raminder Singh (Delray Beach, FL) has shown a propensity to amass big stacks in quick fashion, which is exactly what he's done this afternoon.

Anyone who has ever played with Raminder Singh (Delray Beach, FL), knows that he sometimes acts with reckless abandon in the early stages of events, which has worked out for him.  As the tournament enters the later stages, he seemingly turns a switch, and brings the "a-game."  Last night he ran into a cooler, and ended up bubbling the money in Flight 1A, but quickly put that behind him.

Singh joined the Flight 1B action just over an hour ago, and over that span, he's managed to win himself a good amount of pots.  Most recently, he'd be all-in against Peter Striano, holding 8♠ 2♠ on a Q♠ 6 2♣ 2 board.  Striano had A♣ Q, and needed one of the two remaining queens in the deck to stay alive, but the river would be unkind.  Singh scooped up Peter's remaining stack (which was close to 17,000), which brought his count to 85,000.  That happens to be the largest stack in the field, as the remaining Flight 1B players prepare to head on their second break of the day.

Raminder Singh - 85,000 (106bb)

Once play resumes in Level 9, registration for Flight 1B will be closed, and we will bring you all of the relevant numbers to this second flight.

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Fritz Stoner Scores A Double Knockout, Climbs The Leaderabord

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/600)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 93

Fritz Stoner (Lancaster, PA) has been cashing in tournaments since 2003, but all of those came in the Atlantic City/Pennsylvania area.  He's looking for his first Florida cash in this event, and seems to be off to a solid start.

At Table 5, action would fold around to Derek Williams, who open-shoved for 7,400.  Engelberth Valera was next to act, and act peering down at his hand (and cutting out his chips), he'd too shove all-in (for 9,200).  Two players folded behind, leaving Fritz Stoner (Lancaster, PA) to act, and he would also push his stack across his cards...have both players well covered (22,000).  The big blind folded her hand, and the three hands were tabled:

Stoner: 8♣ 8
Williams: A 7♠
Valera: K♣ Q

Runout: Q♠ 10♠ 8 10 J

Fritz flopped a set to grab a commanding lead in the hand, and while the turn did bring Valera outs to win the hand, Stoner was able to fade the river.  Both Williams and Valera would exit the table, while Stoner chipped up to 42,000.  Fritz is a well known player from the Northeast, with over $180,000 in lifetime tournament earnings.  His career highlighting cash came back in 2006, when he won a $750 No Limit Hold'em event during the Borgata Poker Open ($112,448).

Fritz Stoner - 42,000 (70bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): One Of The Late Arrivals Quickly Makes A Splash

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 6 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 88

Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) needed just a few orbits to more than triple his 30,000 unit starting stack, and is now the early Flight 1B chip leader.

The late arriving poker player is nothing new to the scene, as a handful of notables names have joined the field since break.  One of those players was Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL), who took his seat at Table 1, and immediately made his presence felt.  On one of the final hands of Level 5, Scott's pocket jacks cracked the pocket aces of Curry Burns, which helped Levitt assume the early Flight 1B chip lead (with just over 70,000).  Scott is coming off a SHRPO where he cashed in two events, the $570 No Limit Hold'em Event #1 (98th place for $2,298), and the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Event #21 (62nd for $2,195).

Scott Levitt - 74,000 (148bb)

Since break, other notables to join the Flight 1B action include:

Raminder Singh
Engelberth Valera
Michael Marks
Nagui Yassa

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Taking A Look At The Full Card Player Poker Tour Schedule

Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/400)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 75

While the Flight 1B field continues to take shape, we have the opportunity to take a look at the full schedule for this series.  The headlining event of the series begins next Thursday (August 23rd), and is an $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($250,000 GTD).  There are numerous satellites for many of the events, as well as standard one-day tournaments for players to choose from.

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Getting Used To Two Cards, James Gunter Looking To Find A Bag

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 4 (Blinds 200/300/300)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 68

James Gunter (Wausheka, WA) clearly doesn't need much sleep to feel "refreshed," as he took his seat in the Flight 1B field moments ago, after finishing up a cash session at 3:00am this morning.

Having just moved to Florida, James Gunter (Waukesha, WA) has been "finding his footing" in the poker community, searching for a room that suits his liking.  Gunter is primarily a mixed-game player, so the everyday 8/16 O.E. that runs here at the Isle immediately caught his eye.  James has even helped spread some new games into the mix, as a very draw-heavy (Baduecy, Badacey, 2-7 Triple Draw) mix has been played a few times over the last week.  Gunter was playing said mixed game until 3:00am this morning, but after managing a few hours of sleep, is now in the Flight 1B field.

Gunter's tournament resume only shows one result, which actually came a few weeks ago, during the SHRPO.  He ended up winning (outright) the $360 H.O.R.S.E. event, besting poker legend "Miami" John Cernuto, during heads-up play.  The result was worth $8,514, and is a nice start to what Gunter hopes is a blossoming tournament career.

James headlines the second look at notables in the Flight 1B field, joining the following players:

Paul Shafran
Donald Gordon
Steven Olivier
Moshe Wasser
Tamra Pideret
David Poces
Rami Ezra
Elizabeth Hagensick
Jacquelyn Scott

Players will be taking their first break at the end of this level, returning to Level 5, and new blinds of 200/400/400.

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Christopher Lawson Finds Himself In The Area, And In The Flight 1B Field

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 64

Christopher Lawson (Livingston, TX) may be somewhat covered up at the table, but he couldn't hide from the media, who spotted him over at Table 10.

As seen in his covered up demeanor at the table, Christopher Lawson (Livingston, TX) is perfectly content not standing out.  While he may fly under the radar here at the Isle Casino Pompano Park, if you place Lawson at the Rio during the WSOP, he's going to be noticed by a good portion of the players.  Lawson is a traveling tournament dealer...and one of the best at his crafts.  He's strategically placed in some of the largest tournaments of the WSOP summer, regardless of poker variant.  The schedule he has throughout the year, allows his to travel to numerous spots across the country, and also get the chance to play as well.  As a matter of fact, Lawson played well enough on the WSOP Circuit, to earn himself a seat in the $1,000,000 Global Casino Championship (WSOP Circuit Leaderboard).  Christopher's story was well documented in an excellent article written by Matt Clark, which can be found by clicking here.

Throughout all of Lawson's travels, his largest tournament cash came right here at the Isle, when he won last year's $360 No Limit Hold'em event during the 2017 Isle Classic.  The result was worth $26,293, and makes up a good portion of his $130,275 career tournament earnings.  He has history in this particular event, so a close eye will be kept on Lawson's progress throughout the day.  Christopher headlines the first look at notables in this Flight 1B field, joining the likes of:

Tom Gity
Erik Christensen
Rick Kalgstein
Scott Levitt
Daniel Genachte
Brian Haines
Eric Piderit
Daniel Pearlman

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): A Little "Added" Incentive For Players To Reach Event #1 Final Table

If the potential of healthy final table payouts weren't enough for this tournament, there have been "added seats" to this tournament, for those that finish in tenth place or better.  The final ten players of CPPT Event #1 will receive entry into the $175 No Limit Hold'em ($25,000 GTD), which is scheduled for August 28th (6:00pm).

The final three players of that tournament ($175 NLH $25,000 GTD) will also entry a free seat, this time into September's opening multi ($360 No Limit Hold'em running from September 6th through September 9th).

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1B): Second Event #1 Flight About To Begin, With Numbers Expected To Grow Even Larger

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 1 (Blinds 100/100)
Total Flight 1B Entries: N/A

If yesterday's turnout was a sign of things to come, this Card Player Poker Tour series is going to be something very special, specifically this opening event.  Event #1 had it's first flight yesterday, the cards flying for Flight 1A at 2:00pm.  Registration would close with (129) entries, and $38,700 towards the overall prize pool, which is guaranteed to reach $200,000.  If the numbers continue to grow over the weekend, which is a proven trend during these events, we could see a prize pool that surpassed a quarter-million dollars.

Flight 1A saw (17) players reach the "Day 1 money," and (7) players bag chips for Monday's Day 2.  Michael Garavuso doubled through Peter Udovik during Level 14, which helped him eclipse the 300,000 chip mark.  From that point, Michael never looked back, as he would lead the seven players that bagged from Flight 1A (earning himself a seat into Event #8).

A new group of players will be taking their seats in just a few minutes, as Flight 1B gets underway at 11:00am.  The structure for the day mirrors that of yesterday's flight, with players sitting down to starting stacks of 20,000 units, and playing levels that last (30) minutes.  Once registration is closed (after Level 8), players will learn how many will reach the money (12.5%), and how many will bag for Monday (5%).

Live coverage of this afternoon flight (Flight 1B) will bring you updates throughout the day, concluding once the chips are in the bag.

Friday, August 17th: Card Player Poker Tour Off To A Super Start, With Weekend Expected To Make This A Special Event

ICYMI: Yesterday was the opening flight for Event #1 ($360 No Limit Hold'em $200,000 GTD) of the Card Player Poker Tour.  Flight 1A grew to a size that nobody could have expected, as registration closed with (129) entries.  Once play resumed after the registration break, players learned that (17) would reach the money, with (7) bagging chips for Monday's Day 2.  Raminder Singh would be eliminated by Eric Brewster on the money bubble, with the following players cashing in Flight 1A of Event #1:

The (129) entries from Flight 1A equated to a prize pool of $38,700, with five more starting flights to be played this weekend.  Considering the fact that the weekend flights alway attract larger numbers, we could be looking at something very special from this event.

Tournaments: There are two more starting flights for Event #1 on today's schedule, with Flight 1B beginning at 11:00am, followed by Flight 1C at 6:00pm. The event is structured with 20,000 unit starting stacks, and levels that last (30) minutes on Day 1 (transitioning to 40 minutes on Day 2).  Registration for each starting flight is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows), with play scheduled to conclude when the field reaches the 5% mark.  Day 1 payouts return, which was a wrinkle that we saw during the last major series (Florida State Poker Championship), as 12.5% make the money.  Players that bag chips in any of the opening flights will return on Monday for Day 2 (12:00pm).  Lets not forget about the "chip lead bonus," as the largest stack from each flight will earn entry into CPPT Event #8, which is the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Main Event ($250,000 GTD).

At 2:00pm, players will have yet another opportunity to satellite into Event #1, with a $90 No Limit Hold'em Satellite, which boasts a (5) seat guarantee.  The satellite is structured with 10,000 unit starting stacks, (20) minute levels, and open registration through Level 8.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-12:00am, with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.

It should also be noted that players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand.  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
