Steven Moreno's (Miami, FL) name may sound familiar to followers of the blog, and that's because he was the Event 3 ($200 PLO w/ $100 Re-buys) winner.  Moreno started the day with only 61,400, but has since trended steadily upward.  No massive pots to name, or unbridled aggression to speak of...just a slow and steady climb.  Moreno is one of only a few players above the 1,000,000 chip mark, and is only (12) eliminations from his second final table of the series.

Once the field is down to (18) players, we will redraw for the first time this tournament.  After the players have settled into their new seating assignments, a new layout (with updated chip counts) will be posted.

Day 1B Players Remaining: 33
Chip Average: 353,000

Kobi Ribac (Boca Raton, FL)
Less than an hour ago, we posted about Zack Mullinex doubling up a short stack.  That short stack was Kobi Ribac, who has since taken his good fortune and spun up a stack of just under 600,000. The fateful hand saw Ribac get it all-in and at risk with A♣ 8♣ on a board of 8 9♣ 2♠.  He was in some trouble though, as Mullinex had out-flopped him, holding 8 9 (two pair).

The turn and river would come with consecutive clubs, giving Ribac the flush...and the double.  Mullinex didn't seem to phased by the loss, but since we left that hand, Zack has dipped to 200,000 (from over 750,000).

We did see the same thing to Ed Jaffy (losing 70% of his Day 2 starting stack) earlier this afternoon, but he was able to recover and is still alive in the field.

Event 5 (Day 2): 37th-45th Places ($1,228)

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 20 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 34
Chip Average: 343,000

The following players have been eliminated from Event 5, and cashed for $1,228:

37. John Scigliano (Cooper City, FL)
38. George El-Khouri (Parkland, FL)
39. Michael Newman (Davie, FL)
40. Uri Kadosh (Davie, FL)
41. Richard Leger (Lighthouse Pt., FL)
42. Scott Zakheim (Davie, FL)
43. Frank Lerczak (Boca Raton, FL)
44. Scott Kateian (Normandy Park, WA)
45. Michael Pawelek (Boca Raton, FL)

Event 5 (Day 2): Big Stacks Emerging

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 43
Chip Average: 275,000

Zack Mullinex (Boca Raton, FL)
Usually, when a tournament reaches the money, you'll see a flurry of players heading to the podium after busting.  That's not the case tonight, as only one person has been eliminated since dinner.  There are a handful of stacks over 500,000, headed by Zack Mullinex, who has over 600,000 (even after doubling up a short stack moments before his photo was taken).

Zack Mullinex - 605,000
Michelle Shah - 590,000
Joshua Lowing - 580,000
Devon Shalmi - 530,000
Ishaq Kundawala - 520,000
Dolphins Powers - 475,000

The current level is about to end, with players heading to Level 20 and new blinds of 5,000/10,000/1,000.  With that transition, we see the chip average getting a little shallower, but still very managable.

Event 5 (Day 2): Dinner's Done, ITM Poker Begins

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 44
Chip Average: 265,000

Players are once again taking their seats, and the final stages of Event 5 are now beginning.  We are in the money, with everyone left guaranteed a payout of at least $1,228.  With a players holding the chip average sitting with over 30 bigs, there is still a lot of play left in the night.  While this tournament is scheduled to end today, this field would be hard pressed to even reach the final table by the time 2:45am rolls around (when the players would then have to bag chips for a "Day 3" tomorrow."

Event 5 (Day 2): Meltzer Bursts The Bubble, Sends Field To Dinner

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 18 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 44
Chip Average: 265,000

Jordan Meltzer (Decorah, IA)

After (15) hands on the money bubble, we lose two players on the same hand, sending players off to dinner break (and in the money).  First it was Michael Pawalek busting on Table 3, seemingly sealing the deal for the rest of the field.  Only seconds after though, at Table 1, Jordan Meltzer would call the six big blind shove of Scott Katelan.  His Q♠ 10♣ would river a pair against the A♠ K♠ of Katelan, and the two would split 45th place money.

45. Scott Katelan ($614)
45. Michael Pawalek ($614)

Dinner break will run from 6:00-7:00pm, with live coverage of the event picking up when play resumes.

Event 5 (Day 2): Daniel Is "Cruz-in"

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 18 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 48
Chip Average: 243,000

Daniel Cruz (Boca Raton, FL)
Daniel Cruz (Boca Raton, FL) has come from behind twice while all-in and at risk, and Jose De Arriba isn't very pleased with it.  Cruz was short at shoved in late position for 49,000, only to see Joshua Coates call, and De Arriba re-shove (for over 240,000).  Coates would get out of the way, but De Arriba's K K♠ would fall to the K♣ 8♣ of Cruz, after the runner-runner club finish to make a flush.

About an hour later, Cruz would shove for 110,000 over an open from De Arriba (after one player flatted), and De Arriba would once again re-shove.  The unknown third party would fold, and this time Cruz's A♠ K♠ would spike a king on the turn against the Q Q of De Arriba.

Cruz has chipped up to 240,000 from those two hands alone, while De Arriba takes the punishment, still sitting with over 200,000.

Event 5 (Day 2): "This Guy Bought In Today?"

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 17 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 51
Chip Average: 229,000

Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL)

"This guy bought in today," Jorge Martinez asked his new table mates, pointing to Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL).  Francis was one of the (19) players to buy-in this afternoon, and he's turned the 25,000 starting stack into over 580,000.  Francis is not a tournament novice, holding over $121,000 in career earnings, and it's clear his plan coming into the day has worked.

One of the "storylines" that was already written before we walked into the door, was that of the Day 2 entries.  Joining Francis at Table 4 is Devon Shalmi, another Day 2 entrant that has increased his starting stack eight times (200,000).

It would seem as if both of those players will reach the money, as we are only five players away from hand-for-hand action.

Event 5 (Day 2): The Slow Crawl Towards The Money Bubble

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 17 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 64
Chip Average: 182,000

Michelle Shah (Delray Beach, FL)

The field is still a little way from the money, with (63) players currently remaining, and (45) making the money.  It's around this time of a tournament that you'll see the big stacks exploiting the below average to short stacks.  That is exactly what's Michelle Shah (Delray Beach, FL) is doing at the moment, increasing to chip leading stack to over 450,000.

Shah has an impressive tournament resume, with over $68,000 in career earnings, mostly coming between Florida and Las Vegas.  Michelle has (10) recorded cashes this calendar year, including three during the PCA (two of which were final table finishes in secondary events).

Event 5 (Day 2): Updated Counts From The Field

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 16 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 72
Chip Average: 162,000

Kobi Ribak (Boca Raton, FL)
Players are finishing up Level 16, and at the level's conclusion, will be taking their second break of the day.  Play will then resume with Level 17 and new blinds of 2,500/5,000/500, with a chip average still over (30) big blinds.

We are being introduced to some new names on the leaderboard, as updated chip counts were just collected from the field:

Andrew Touchette - 360,000

Total Entries: 467

Chip Average: 154,000

We continue through the Isle Poker Open schedule momentarily, as Event 6 gets underway, a $130 No Limit Hold'em tournament with a $60,000 guarantee.  There will be two flights today, three more tomorrow, and then Day 2 on Tuesday.  Players will sit down to starting stacks of 20,000, with levels starting at (20) minutes, and transitioning to (25).  While there will not be live coverage of the event on the blog, you will be able to find end of flight chip counts and seating assignments posted.

Event 5 (Day 2): Who's Trending?

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 15 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 82
Chip Average: 142,000

Joshua Coates (Lake Mary, FL)

The slow going allows for a scan of the field, which entail gives us our first "Who's Trending" of the series.  Joshua Coates (Lake Mary, FL) is entering what looks to be uncharted territory, as the player with only one recorded cash assumes the chip lead.  Coates started the day with 94,900, and now sits with just under 300,000 in front of him.

Trending Up:

Joshua Coates: Started (94,900)  Current (295,000)
Claude Ferland: Started (71,100)  Current: (290,000)

Event 5 ($570 NLH - $250,000 Guarantee)
Level 15 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/500)
Total Entries: 467

Day 1B Players Remaining: 93

Ed Jaffy (Boca Raton, FL)
Players are just returning from their first break of the day, now posting blinds of 1,500/3,000/500.  The chip average is currently 125,000, which is over (40) big blinds, and allows for a lot of deep play.

The largest stack returning from the three Day 1 flight belonged to Ed Jaffy (Boca Raton, FL), coming back with 297,400.  The first two levels have not been kind to Jaffy though, as his stack has been trending downwards since the start of the day.  Ed sits with just over 70,000 in front of him, and the hopes that he can recapture some of the magic from his Day 1A flight.

We still need to lose over half of the remaining field to reach the money for this event, so it should be a while until we are discussing the money bubble.

Event 5 (Day 2): Official Event 5 Payouts
