Event 13 (Day 2): Patience Pays Off For Gianquitti

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 21 (Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 19
Chip Average: 735,000

Ryan Gianquitti (Lake Worth, FL)

When action was on the money bubble, just hours ago, Ryan Gianquitti (Lake Worth, FL) looked as if he was in serious jeopardy of even reaching the money.  Ryan somehow managed to stay afloat with a stack that never got above (20) bigs on the bubble, and has since navigated his way back into contention.  Gianquitti now has just under 600,000, and has taken advantage of the excellent structure to make his comeback.

Just a scheduling reminder, today's play will conclude at the end of Level 23, which will be right around 1:00am.

Event 13 (Day 2): Harwood Finds Help, Then Loses Hope

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 20
Chip Average: 700,000

The stack sizes got very top heavy as we reached three tables, and we've seen a lot of the shorter stacks fail at doubling up.  Loni Harwood shoved UTG +2 for just over (10) big blinds, and was called by Bill Pilossoph, who was next to act.  While Paul Balzano asked for Pilossoph's exact count, he would end up folding, and it would be Harwood at risk:

Harwood: A 4♠
Pilossoph: J♠ J

Flop: A Q♠ 9♣
Turn: J♣
River: 3

It looked for a moment that Harwood would find her double, but the jack on the turn would lock things up for Pilossoph, and send Loni home in 21st place ($4,404).

Event 13 (Day 2): Newman's Twitter Departure

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 23
Chip Average: 607,000

The field continues to shrink, as we are coming up on our first re-draw of the tournament (when 18 players remain).  A lot of the talk at the table has been about the WSOP Main Event final table, with a handful of the players streaming the action on their phone or tablets.  Stewart Newman (Coral Gables, FL) was one of the most recent departures, and his send off was spotted on Twitter seconds ago:

"Slum Donkey Poker"
The concept of "teams" or groups in poker have been around for a long time...and countless players have utilized group discussion as a forum to improve their game.

At the beginning of  this series, we were introduced to "Slum Donkey Poker" by Raminder Singh (one of its "members").  Singh would constantly remind the media of the Slum Donkey's, and introduce each player that was involved.

At one point in Event 1, we had three of the "donkeys" sitting together at the same table deep in the tournament (Singh, Kimberly Jones, and Reece Lightner).

This event has been no different, as the "Slum Donkeys" are represented in strong fashion.  Of the (31) players that remain, five of them are donkeys: Paul Balzano, Raminder Singh, Ryan Gianquitti, Frederick Allenspach, and Sean Shah.

Event 13 (Day 2): Cards Are Back In The Air

Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 34
Chip Average: 411,000

Players returned from dinner (15) minutes ago, and the cards are back in the air.  When players left the tournament area ay 6:30, there was still some time left in Level 18, which has now concluded.  Level 19 started just moments ago, with blinds going up to 5,000/10,000/1,000.  The chip average sits at just over (40) big blinds, offering a lot of play for the remaining group.  The plan at the moment is to play until approximately 2:15am, at which time those still in the event will bag their chips for Day 3 (tomorrow at 12:00pm).

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 18 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 45
Chip Average: 310,000

The 2016 Isle Poker Open Championship Event is now in the money!  With (47) players remaining, Ira Silverman would shove his stack of less than (10) bigs in a blind versus blind scenario.  DD Kim would call him from the big, and her A♠ K would best Silverman's 10♣ 6 on a runout of 4 J♠ 4♠ 8 8♠.

Play would then be hand-for-hand, which lasted (14) hands, and approximately (50) minutes.  There were only two hands over that time span where a player was at risk for their tournament life, both times the short stack survived.  Then just a few minutes ago, Ronald Tourony opened to 12,000, with David Diaz shoving from the button for just over 70,000.  Action folded around and Tourony made the call:

Tourony: A K♠
Diaz: A♣ J♣

Runout: 7 4 3♣ 8 8♠

Diaz quickly exited the tournament area, and after all of the hands were finished at the other tables, the "in the money" announcement was made to the players remaining.  There will be another (45) minutes of play before those still in head on dinner break (6:30-7:30pm).

Event 13 (Day 2): Money Bubble Looming

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 17 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 47
Chip Average: 300,000

With the elimination of Frederico Dabus in 48th place, the field is now just one elimination away from hand-for-hand play.  Once hand-for-hand is completed, those remaining will be guaranteed at least $3,146...but everyone's eyes are on the top prize of $166,071.  Details of the hand that brings the field into the money will be posted just moments after it happens.

Event 13 (Day 2): Updated Counts From Break

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 17 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 49
Chip Average: 285,000

Players are about to head on their second break of the day, and will return to Level 17 and blinds of 3,000/6,000/1,000 (285,000 chip average).  There are two more levels to be played after break, at which point those still remaining will head to dinner (60 minutes).  With only (4) eliminations until the money is reached, we should see hand-for-hand play before dinner.  Here are some updated counts from the field, tallied just before break:

Alex Nguyen - 860,000
AJ Gambino - 720,000
Edward Novak - 550,000
Joshua Hillock - 525,000
Greg Fishberg - 520,000
Paul Balzano - 440,000
Ory Hen - 410,000
Loni Harwood - 400,000
Tim Miles - 390,000
Raminder Singh - 350,000

Event 13 (Day 2): Nguyen Brings Field One Closes To The Money

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 16 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 51
Chip Average: 278,000

Dmitri Agrachov (Weston, FL) came into the day with 127,200, which was just below the average chip stack to start Day 2.  Agrachov's stack fluctuated greatly over the course of the first four hours of the day, but once Level 16 started, he found himself as one of the short stacks.  Just moments ago, Agrachov would be all-in and at risk (pre-flop) against Alex Nguyen:

Agrachov: A K♠
Nguyen: 7♠ 7♣

Board: Q♠ Q♣ 6♠ 5♠ 8

Dmitri was racing for his tournament life, but would not be able to find any help to capture the lead from Nguyen.  Agrachov closes out his 2016 Isle Poker Open with one cash on the book, a 22nd Place finish in Event #9 ($1,418).

Alex Nguyen - 680,000
Dmitri Agrachov - Eliminated

Event 13 (Day 2): Letts Lonely Walk As Level Transitions

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 16 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 52
Chip Average: 269,000

Ronald Tourony (Ft. Myers, FL)
Another level is in the books, as the field transitions into Level 16, with blinds going up to 2,500/5,000/500 (269,000 chip average). Daniel Letts was mentioned as one of the shorter stacks in our last post, and just as we approached Table 1, Letts would be all-in.

With action on the turn of a board reading 5♠ 10 5 2♣, Letts would shove for 81,500 first to act.  After just a few moments, Ronald Tourony (Ft. Myers, FL) verbalized a call, and Tim Miles folded behind:

Board: 5♠ 10 5 2♣

Letts: Q♠ 10♠
Tourony: 5♣ 7♣

River: 9

Letts had two possible outs to stay in the tournament, but would not find one of them on the river.  Daniel falls just (8) spots short of the money, while Tourony chips up to 350,000.

Event 13 (Day 2): Short Stacks Trying To Reach Money Bubble

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 16 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 54
Chip Average: 259,000

With the field only (9) eliminations from the money, there are a handful of short stacks that remain, trying to hold on and reach the money bubble.  At the moment, one of the shortest stacks in the field is Ryan Gianquitti, who is patiently playing a (10) big blind stack.  Some others in the field hoping to chip include Sean Shah, Frederico Dubas, and Daniel Letts.

Jermaine Lion Gerlin had hopes of landing that crucial double-up, but he then ran into Daniel Weinman. Gerlin was all-in for about 100,000 on a flop of 10♠ 6 4, and was seemingly in good position holding 6♠ 4♣.  Unofrunately for Gerlin, Weinman had flopped top set (10♣ 10), and had Jermaine drawing to the possibility of running cards to make quads.  The hand would be over on the turn, and Gerlin would fall abut ten spots short of the money, while Weinman chips up to over 300,000.

Daniel Weinman - 310,000
Jermaine Lion Gerlin - Eliminated

Event 13 (Day 2): Varlashin's Aces Rocket Him Up Leaderboard

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 60
Chip Average: 233,000

Vladislav Varlashin (Krasnodar, Russia)
Dimitri Algrachov would open the action at Table 1, raising it up to 9,500.  Vladislav Varlashin was next to act, and he'd put together a three-bet to 20,000.  After a few folds, David Ward (Wilmington, MA) would make the call, with the original raiser (Algrachov) coming along as well.

The dealer would fan out a flop of 9 8 4, and after Dmitri checked and Varlashin continued, Ward would raise all-in for just over 200,000.  Agrachov then released his hand, and Varlashin immediately made the call, flipping over pocket aces.

Ward would run into one of the toughest spots in poker, as his K K♣ was in brutal shape against the A A of Varlashin.  The turn and river would bring no help to Ward, who quickly stood up from the table and exited the poker room.

Vladislav Varlishin - 520,000
David Ward - Eliminated

Event 13 (Day 2): Updated Counts From Break

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)

Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 67
Chip Average: 208,000

The paces of eliminations continued to be swift during Level 14, with the field losing (18) players over the second hour of play.  With the structure, and blind:stack ratio at the moment, it would be very surprising to see things continue on at this pace.  We are only (18) more eliminations from the money, a point where things should surely slow down (hand-for-hand).  Here are some updated counts from the field at break:

AJ Gambino - 575,000
Alex Nguyen - 550,000
Greg Fishberg - 510,000
Kevin Grabel - 490,000
TK Miles - 330,000

Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL)
Of the players that bought it this afternoon, Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) is the only one that remains active.  While he was treading water for the first hour of the day, he was able to keep his stack above the 30,000 he started the day with, and doubled up over 100,000 just moments ago.

Hen open shoved for his remaining 46,000, and was called by Kevin Grabel, who was in the small blind.  When the cards were tabled, it would be Hen holding a strong lead with 7 7♠ over Grabel's 4♠ 4♣.  The dealer would run out a board of 8♠ 6 5♠ 8♣ 6♣, and Hen would earn the double, and little more breathing room.

While that hand was unfolding, Chad Eveslage (Ramsey, IN) was eliminated from Day 2 play.  At the end of this (20 minutes), players will be going on their first break of the day, and will return to Level 15 (2,000/4,000/500).  Also eliminated from play just moments ago was Anathasios Polychronopoulos.

Event 13 (Day 2): First Level In The Books

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 85
Chip Average: 164,000

Play has just entered the second level of the day, with blinds going up to 1,500/3,000/400.  As expected, the action was pretty fast to start off, with (23) players eliminated over the course of the first hour of play. Now that many of the short stacks have either doubled up or been eliminated, we should definitely see things slow down a little.  Some of the notables to bust during Level 13 included:

Al Schein
Brian Hastings
Harrison Gimbel
Vladislav Mezheritsky
George Horteland
William Beasley
Andjelko Andrejevic
