BATB Event #14 ($1,500 NLH Championship): Flight 1C Wrapping Up It's Final Level Of Play

2018 Battles At The Beach

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200) | Structure
Total Flight 1C Entries: 190

The tournament clock just transitioned to Level 10, which will be the final level of Flight 1C. There will be no runaway chip leader from this flight, as these final forty minutes will determine who walks away with the Event #18 seat.

The clock will be paused with 10:00 minutes remaining, with the remaining players then finding out how many hands are left in the night.  Once those hands are completed at each table, the bagging process will begin.  Official end of Flight 1B chip counts will be posted shortly thereafter, along with the winners of the chip lead bonus.

Uri Kadosh (Davie, FL) doesn't play many tournaments, but he wasn't going to miss the opportunity to defend his Battles At The Beach Championship Event title from last year.

With just over an hour left in play for Flight 1C, the field is still full of notables players, all hoping that they don't have to contemplate the Day 2 entry tomorrow.  Listed below are just some of the recognizable names active in the field:

Mark Kershner
Frederico Dabus
Joshua Beckley
Isaiah Goldman
Matthew Lambrecht
Tom Gity
Josias Santos
Brandon Ageloff
Jerry Wong
Michael Newman

Kevin Chan (Coral Springs, FL) has already seen success in a $1,500 NLH Championship, chopping December's Isle Classic event with Joseph Marchese, earning himself $58,660.

Players just returned from their final break of the day, with just under (100) seats occupied in the tournament area.  While there are a handful of large stacks across the field, there isn't a single player that's gained any sort of serious separation from the rest of the field.  Joel Deutsch (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) leads the way with 170,000, albeit a very slim lead, as two players are within 10,000 of that number.

Joel Deutsch - 170,000
Kevin Chan - 165,000
John Roveto - 160,000
Gunti Sig - 150,000
Ginold Cham - 145,000

Matthew Zarcadoolas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is on his second entry of the day, but just found a little traction with a nice sized pot won against Raminder Singh.

After an open at Table 5 from Matthew Zarcadoolas, he would be three-bet by Doran Malinasky, with action then folding to Raminder Singh.  Singh, who just an hour ago was at 70,000, four-bet shipped for his remaining 24,000.  Players folded back to Zarcadoolas, who re-shoved, causing Malinasky to release his hand.  Singh would be racing for his tournament life, as the players tabled their cards:

Singh: 10 10♠
Zarcadoolas: A K

Runout: A 8 3♠ 6 9

Singh shook his head as the board ran out, and quickly exited the tournament area after losing the hand.  Zarcadoolas chips up to over 60,000 with the pot, and hopes to continue the upward trend over the final three levels.

With Sam Panzica's re-entry...the (176th) in today's flight, the 2018 Battles At The Beach $1,500 Championship Event has surpassed the posted $500,000 guarantee.  The number will grow even larger before the night ends, with additional entries coming tomorrow as well.  Just a reminder for those following the blog, registration is open through Level 12 of this event, which means players can enter the field over the first two levels of Sunday's play.  It will be interesting to see how many entries the tournament gets tomorrow, as players who bust over the first (100) minutes of play, may choose to jump right back in before registration's close.

Nissim Gozlan (Plantation, FL) came back from break all smiles, knowing that he would be sitting down to the largest stack in Flight 1C.

Players are back from their second to last break of the day, with (110) seats still occupied in the field.  Leading those remaining is currently Nissim Gozlan (Plantation, FL), who sat back down to a stack of over 150,000.  Gozlan has over $153,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, most of which came at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.  Nissim's largest Isle Poker cash, which also happens to be one of is top ten scores, came during last year's Florida State Poker Championships (Event #14 - $1,100 NLH).  Gozlan reached the final table of that tournament, finishing in ninth place, and earning $6,117.

Nissim Gozlan - 155,000

As mentioned in the title, next month will see the first every single-ante format multi, with the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante ($200,000 GTD) event running from April 26th-April 29th.  The tournament has a great structure, with 30,000 unit starting stacks, and levels that last (40) minutes during opening flights (transitioning to 50 minutes on Day 2).  There will be both step-qualifiers and satellites for the event, with structures sheets to be released soon.

Jonathan Borenstein (Teaneck, NJ) had success in that same WPT Borgata Poker Open we mentioned earlier with Marshall White.  Jonathan finished second in the $350 NLH Almighty Stack event, earning himself $138,000.

Jonathan Borenstein (Teaneck, NJ) has had problems finding any traction since he entered the field a few levels ago, but just hit the reset button (after doubling back up to the starting stack).  The table was approached as Borenstein was heads-up on a Q♣ J 5 flop, with his opponent firing out a bet of 3,000.  Jonathan collected his remaining chips (11,600), and pushed them across his cards, which got a very quick call from his opponent.

Player X: K♣ Q
Borenstein: K 6

Turn: 7♠
River: 2

Borenstein was drawing just to hearts, as any outs to a king were nullified by the hand he was up against.  A black card on the turn would leave Jonathan one street away from re-entering, but the 2 on the river sealed the win.  Borenstein is now just below the 30,000 starting stack, which is a more than manageable sixty big blinds.

Marshall White (Garner, NC) and Joe Palm (Bensalem, PA) are surely happy to get out of the freezing weather they've been experiencing up north.

As the field continues to grow at a rapid pace, we are beginning to see some players arriving from outside of the state.  Two of those players happen to be sitting next to each, both with live tournament resumes that are in the $1,000,000 range.  Joe Palma (Bensalem, PA), better known as "Worm," is the unheralded boss at Parx Casino (and their Big Stax series).  He has won close to $300,000 during events in that series alone, spanning the last three year.

Marshall White (Garner, NC) is another player who cut his teeth playing events in the Northeast, as well as his home state of North Carolina.  During the fall of last year, White earned a career highlighting score, winning the opening event of the WPT Borgata Poker Open.  The $560 No Limit Hold'em tournament had 3,570 runners, and an official prize pool over $1,942,000.  The title win was worth just over $330,000, and helped bring his career earnings above $1,299,000.

Both of those names are capable of title runs in this event, which has a field that is growing increasingly tougher by the minute.  Listed below are some more names to have entered the action since we last updated:

Sean Shah
Michael Tait
Mark Dube
Rafael Reis
Tony Ruberto
Richard Rice
Justin Harvell

Idris Ambraisse (France) is just a few weeks removed from his first cash on American soil, which also happened to be the largest of his career.

Idris Ambraisse (France) just got his first American flag on his Hendon Mob resume, with the result happening to be the largest of his career.  After booking scores all over the world, Ambraisse came to play in the $350 No Limit Hold'em event during the Escalator Series at Hard Rock, eventually winning the event for $88,939.  The native of France liked the Florida poker action so much, that he decided to stick around for this series.  Idris is the chip leader returning from break, and looking to become the first player to eclipse the 100,000 mark:

Idris Ambraisse - 98,000 (245bb)
Kevin Chan - 95,000 (237bb)
Scott Efron - 80,000 (200bb)
Joel Deutsch - 75,000 (187bb)

Damien Simon (Hialeah, FL) and Gili Prizament have long been coming to the Isle Poker Room as a boyfriend and girlfriend...and will soon be returning as husband and wife.

Damien Simon (Hialeah, FL) is no stranger to the Isle Poker Room, spending much of his time playing cash, but also dabbling in a little tournament action.  Simon happened to win a seat into this event during last night's $175 No Limit Hold'em satellite, and may contribute that to his recent "life run-good."  Simon got engaged just last week, to long time girlfriend (and also Isle Poker regular) Gili Prizament.  Having just invested a nice amount on an engagement ring, a deep run in this event would likely be well received by Simon.  Congrats to both Damien and Gili, who have both been featured on the blog numerous time before!!!!

Players are now on their second break of the day, and will be returning to Level 5, with new blinds of 200/400/50.  The field is now just (35) entries away from the posted guarantee, which should be reached at some point before the flight's end.

BATB Event #14 ($1,500 NLH Championship): Sam Panzica Part Of Late Arriving Crowd

It's been a while since Sam Panzica (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) has been featured on the blog, as his last few months have been spent traveling around the world.

Just over a year ago, Sam Panzica (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was experiencing the highlight of his poker career, winning the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event, and earning himself $1,373,000.  It was just part of a whirlwind three years for Sam, that's seen him earn over $3,000,000 in tournament cashes.  Since July of 2016, Panzica has won three major titles (2 WPT events, and the 2016 Florida State Poker Championships $1,500 Main Event).  He cracked the top one-hundred on the money-list for both 2016 and 2017, and is already off to a solid start this year.  After notching some scores during the Aussie Millions, Sam final tabled the $25,000 No Limit Hold'em High Roller during the LAPC, which netted him a return of $131,000 (fourth place).

Panzica is a die-hard Michigan Wolverine fan, so if he does reach the later stages of today's flight, you can be sure that his full interest will not just be on the action on the felt.  Joining Panzica in a group of late arriving players, were names like:

Jonathan Borenstein
Daniel Genachte
Jerry Leong
Sara Hall
Christopher Gilkey
Noel Atherley
Daniel Diamond

Matthew Zarcadoolas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is in great form, and is hoping to record his second six-figure score of the year in this event.

Matthew Zarcadoolas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) recorded his first tournament results in 2012, but didn't break out until November of 2016, when he final tabled the $3,500 NLH Rock N' Roll Poker Open Championship Event.  He'd end up finishing in seventh place, and earned the largest cash over his career (to that point), taking home $87,552.  Matthew would just end up cracking the $100,000 mark in earnings for 2016, and then followed that up with $136,023 in earnings over 2017.  Those numbers are soon going to be in the rear-view mirror for Zarcadoolas, as he's already banked $121,889 worth of cashes this year.  A majority of that number came earlier this January, when he final tabled the opening event of the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, which was an $1,100 buy-in WPT DeepStacks event.  Matthew finished third in the event, and got his hands on a first ever six-figure score, earning $100,579 for the result.  Zarcadoolas's largest Isle Poker cash came back in June of 2016 ($340), so it's safe to say, that a score in this event would be the largest he's booked in this room.

Matthew headlines yet another look at some of the notable players in this afternoon's field:

Evan Braunstein
Steve Raeman
Jacobo Fernandez
Frank Traino
David Hinson
Tuan Phan
David Hass
John Restrepo
Richard Leger

Followers of the blog are now getting a look at the April Tournament Calendar, which just made it's way to the poker room yesterday (for those that would like a hard copy).  There are a few highlighting events to note, beginning with a little Single-Ante Mini-Series, which starts on April 2.  For three afternoons in a row, there will be a single-ante event, with escalating prize points (and guarantees).  There is also a $175 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD) multi that runs from April 18th through April 22nd.  Lastly, we will be running the first ever Isle Poker single-ante format multi, which has an $1,100 buy-in...$200,000 guaranteed prize pool...and structure that is about as player-friendly as they get.

Joseph Couden (Coconut Creek, FL) is in his comfort zone in these Isle Poker Room majors, cashing for more than a quarter-million dollars over the past three years.

To say that Joseph Couden (Coconut Creek, FL) feels at home in these Isle Poker $1,500 Championship Events, would be a major understatement.  Joseph, who has over $1,365,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, saw over $360,000 of that number won here at the Isle Poker Room.  In the past three years, Couden has a first place finish (2015 Florida State Poker Championships $1,500 NLH Main Event - $154,762), runner-up finish (2017 Battles At The Beach $1,500 NLH Championship Event - $120,000), and third place finish (2015 Isle Open $1,500 NLH Championship Event - $90,000).  Joseph actually ranks first in the Isle Poker All-Time Money List ($389,236), which consists of names that are legends in the Florida poker community.

Cousin's name continues the list of notables in today's Flight 1C field, heading our second look at players in the field:

Ruslan Dykshteyn (Staten Island, NY) has a very impressive tournament resume, with over $1,038,000 earned since 2008.

Now we've seen some fast starts to tournaments this series, but nothing like what just happened to Ruslan Dykshteyn (Staten Island, NY).  Three players would be heading to the flop for a bet of 700, including Michael Newman and Ruslan Dykshteyn.  The dealer would fan out a flop of 8 5 2, with Newman checking, first to act.  John Roveto would bet 2,000, with Dykshteyn making the call, and Newman back-raising to 10,000.  Roveto quickly announced himself all-in, with Ruslan casually making the call, along with Newman:

Flop: 8 5 2

Dykshteyn: A 3
Newman: 8♠ 5♠
Roveto: A K

Ruslan had flopped the nuts, and had people throwing chips into the pot before he could put in a raise.  While Dyksteyn was still at risk to Newman making a full house, the turn and river would run out clean, and he'd knock out two players from early Flight 1C play.  Michael Newman quickly re-entered the action, but we have not yet seen a reappearance of John Roveto.

Ruslan Dyksteyn - 91,000 (606bb)

BATB Event #14 ($1,500 NLH Championship): Ory Hen In As Satellite Winner, Hoping To Parlay Into A Big Score

Walking into the poker room, Ory Hen must have felt like he already won something, as he was able to save $1,325 on this initial tournament buy-in.

Tournament veteran Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) was going to be in this event regardless, but ended up getting in for a fraction of the buy-in, after winning one of the thirteen available satellite seats last night ($175 No Limit Hold'em).  For those that play in this Florida-based circuit, Ory is someone who needs no introduction, with over $1,293,000 in lifetime earnings.  Hen is a consummate professional, who can more often than not, be found at the table with a big smile (unless he takes a bad beat).  Ory has recorded ten results to this point in the year, four of which were final table finishes.  His last result here at the Isle Poker Room came back in February, when he finished 13th in the "February $100,000," a $360 No Limit Hold'em multi that was run standalone ($1,605).

Ory is just one of many notables in the field for the first time this tournament, joining names like:

Michael Newman
Uri Kadosh

Action for the third (and final) starting flight for the 2018 Battles At The Beach $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship (Event #14) is about to get underway, with some big things expected out of the day.  To this point, there have been a combined total of (195) entries into the tournament, with (72) players successfully bagging chips for tomorrow's Day 2.  The current prize pool sits at $263,250, which is just more the half the way to the $500,000 posted guarantee.  A total of (171) entries are needed to reach the guarantee, and while registration stays open through two levels tomorrow, we should see the number eclipsed at some point this afternoon.  Not only will we see players showing up for the first time, but satellite winners that haven't chosen a starting flight yet will be in attendance, along with players that have tried...but haven't bagged chips yet.

All of the rules stay the same, with Flight 1C players sitting down to starting stacks of 30,000 units, and playing levels that last (50) minutes.  Registration is open all day, meaning players can choose to enter before play begins, all the way through the bagging process (which begins some time around 9:00-9:15pm).

Live coverage of today's flight will start with a published post of combined chip counts (from Flight 1A and Flight 1B), and will be followed the first look at players in today's early field.
