FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Final Level Of Flight 1D Play, Chip Counts To Follow

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 13 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/2,400)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 103
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 40

Play has just entered Level 13, which is the final schedule levels of the flight.  When the tournament clock shows 10:00 minutes remaining, it will be paused, and the remaining players will be informed how many hands remain in the night.  Once those hands are completed at each table, the bags will come out, and those still left will pack up their chips for Day 2 (Monday at 12:00pm).

Once all of the bags have been verified by tournament staff, we will post the official counts from Flight 1C, along with the winner of the chip lead bonus.

Play entered Level 11 just a few minutes ago, with those still remaining scheduled to head on their final break at the end of the level.  Bryan Moon still leads the field, and looks to become the first player to eclipse the 200,000 mark.  Evan Teitelbaum's leading Day 2 stack (457,500) looks to be very safe at this time, but there is still a good amount of play remaining in the flight.  There is also the chip lead bonus up for grabs, as the largest stack in Flight 1D (at the bagging process) will earn a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em FSPC Main Event seat.

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Bryan Moon Looking To Shine Once Again, Leads The Field After Break

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/1,200)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 95
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 57

Bryan Moon (Chicago, IL) made an appearance on the blog during last month's $360 No Limit Hold'em ($50,000 GTD), and is back once again, now as the Flight 1D chip leader.

Players have just returned from break, and while updated chip counts will be posted during the next update, we can tell you that Bryan Moon (Chicago, IL) is leading the field.  Moon shares the table with one time chip leader Stephen Krackomberger, who had slipped from his one time peak of 120,000 (now sitting with less than half that amount).

Moon's tournament resume boasts earnings that are just under $93,000, with most all of that number coming from results pre-2016.  Bryan only has one cash since March of 2015, which actually came here at the Isle, during the $360 No Limit Hold'em ($50,000 GTD) that ran last month.  He finished in 19th place, and added another $825 to his total career winnings.

Four of Bryan's eleven results are WSOP Circuit cashes, with his career best score coming during the WSOP Circuit $1,675 Main Event at Horseshoe Casino Hammond (10th Place - $34,795).

Bryan Moon - 140,000 (116bb)

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Joshua Kay Rising After Late Arrival

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/1,000)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 95
Flight 1D Players Remaining: 64

Joshua Kay (Boca Raton, FL) steered clear of the WSOP for most of the summer, but is getting his tournament fix via this event, as well as next week's $1,500 FSPC Main Event.

Joshua Kay (Boca Raton, FL) was one of a few players to join the Flight 1D action after dinner, but he's made up for lost time pretty quickly.  A hand between Kay and Noe Acosta was caught on the turn, with the two heads-up on a board of A♠ 6♣ 7♠ 4♠.  Acosta had just check-raised Josh's 3,500 turn bet (to 7,200) when we approached, with Kay making the call.  Noe would then bet 6,000 after the J♣ fell on the river, with Kay taking some time, before announcing himself all-in.  Acosta would ask for an exact count, and after the dealer gave him an answer (35,300), Noe released his hand.

The former PCA title holder (2015 LAPT Bahamas Main Event) would rake in the pot, which brought his chip count to 53,000.

Joshua Kay - 53,000 (53bb)
Noe Acosta - 44,000 (44bb)

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Malinasky And Lambrecht Double, Close To Double Chip Average

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/800)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 91

Matthew Lambrecht (Stuart, FL) got max value out of pocket kings against Salvatore Sollecito, who was knocked out just a few hands after doubling Lambrecht up.

At Table 2, a player from early position would open to 2,000, with three players flatting behind.  Matthew Lambrecht was in the big blind, and when action was on him, he would three-bet to 9,000.  The original raiser and one of the caller would fold, with Salvatore Sollecito calling on the button.  The dealer would fan out a 106 4 flop, with Lambrecht betting out 5,100, and Salvatore making the call.  After the 2 fell on the turn, Matthew would shove for 11,000, with Salvatore making the call after a few moments.  Lambrecht would be ahead with K K against Sollecito's 5 6♠, and was able to fade the river (which was the 8♠), securing a critical double.  Lambrecht chipped up to 58,000 with the pot, and now sits with a more than comfortable stack.

Heading back to write up the hand history, we would catch Doron Malinasky shoving all-in (for 17,100), over a raise from a player in late position.  Joseph Duchman (who had limped earlier) shoved for less, with the original raiser making the call, and putting both players at risk:

A. Nonymous: J♠ J
Malinasky: K♠ Q♠
Duchman: K 10

Runout: 10♠ 9♠ 7 Q♣ 3♠

Malinasky flopped very well, and would take the lead on the turn, which would not be relinquished on the river.  Doron is now over 50,000, and is far from the "danger zone" he just started the hand with.

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): TK Miles Returns To The Isle, After Colossus Summer At WSOP

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/600)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 89

TK Miles (Tallahassee, FL) cashed in five events over the summer (3 WSOP and 1 MSPT), and had combined earnings of $215,677 over the month long stay.

There haven't been any players to enter during dinner break, but there were a few to join the action just before the break began.  One of those players was TK Miles (Tallahassee, FL), who is a name that followers of the blog would surely recognize.  Miles is back in Florida after a well above average summer, where he cashed in four WSOP events.  TK's headlining score of the summer came in the $565 No Limit Hold'em Colossus (Event #7), where he bested a field of 13,065 entries, to finish in fifth place.  The incredible run saw a return of $166,091, which stands as his fourth best result.

After the results from the summer, Miles' career earnings are now over $2,838,000, putting him 23rd on the all-time money list for the state of Florida.  Some other late arrivals to the Flight 1D field include:

Stewart Newman
Tony Ruberto
Stuart Paterson
Brett Bader
Bryce McVay
AJ Gambino

Total Flight 1D Entries: 79

Players in the Flight 1D field of Event #9 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em $200,000 GTD) are on dinner break, and will be returning at 6:00pm.  When play resumes with Level 7, the new blinds being posted will be 300/600/600.

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Updated Chip Counts Before Dinner Break, Stephen Krackomberger Holds The Lead

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 6 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 79

In order to cash in his first event in 2018, Stephen Krackomberger (Howell, NJ) needs to find himself a bag in this event...which he is on his way to doing, leading the field just before dinner break.

Entering Level 6, there aren't too many stacks across the field, as we are still waiting for the first player to eclipse the century mark.  Stephen Krackomberger (Howell, NJ) leads the field with 84,000, after getting off to a strong start, and continuing the upward trend.  Both Steve Karp and Elliot Zaydman won pots worth approximately 55,000 towards the end of Level 5.  Karp knocked out Dylan Drazen (holding A 2 on a board of A2♠ 4♠ 2♣ Q), while Zaydman flopped top set (K♠ K♣ on K 9 8), and would make a full house against Andre Rakusa (who held A Q♠).  Rakusa re-entered the flight, while it is still yet to be seen whether Drazen will be doing the same.

Players will be heading on their dinner break at the end of this level, which will last from 5:10pm-6:00pm.  Just a reminder, registration will be open through the entirety of this flight, with the tournament's prize pool now over $300,000.

Stephen Krackomberger - 84,000 (168bb)
Steve Karp - 62,000 (124bb)

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Rafael Fernandes Looking To Make 2018 His Best (By The Numbers)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/400)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 73

Rafael Fernandes (Kissimmee, FL) is seemingly primed to make a really deep run in an event like this, as his numbers continue to get better as time passes.

One of the hardest things to do in tournament poker is have a breakout year, and then follow up those results the following year.  In 2017, Rafael Fernandes (Kissimmee, FL) earned over $56,000 in tournament cashes, after never having a year with results north of five-figures (his resume started in 2011).  Fernandes final tabled the opening event of the WPT DeepStacks series in Tampa (Hard Rock), finishing in sixth place, which was good enough for a $27,525 score.  That helped propel his year, as he went on to record seven more cashes, including another five-figure result in Tampa (4th place in the $150 No Limit Hold'em "Little Slick" for $15,620).

Rafael started 2018 with a final table in one of the largest events in Florida (Event #1 of the SHRPO), finishing in ninth place for $21,210.  He has since cashed in nine more events, and has his 2018 earnings up to $50,000, with five more months left in the year.  It's safe to say that Fernandes is going to best his breakout number from last year, setting the bar even higher for himself.

Fernandes has a solid core of friends who are all accomplished tournament players, including well-known Florida pro Rafael Reis.  While Reis isn't in today's field, some of Fernandes' circle is in action, including Fabio Santos.

As the Flight 1D field grows, so does the list of notable names in action:

Ian O'Hara
David Maslowski
Daniel Genachte
Bill Farnan
Eduardo Christ
Israel De La Cerda
Jason Prest
Doron Malinasky
Paul Shafran

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): Isaiah Goldman Makes Rare Appearance, Looking To Best Runner-Up Finish From 2016

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 4 (Blinds 200/300/300)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 51

Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ) is usually a name that we see in the championship events (during these major series), but with a prize pool that resembles once of those tournaments, he's decided to put in an entry this afternoon.

Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ) doesn't have a schedule that allows him much time for tournament poker, but when he does get the chance to play, he definitely makes the most of his time.  Case in point the year 2016, when Goldman finished runner-up in the Florida State Poker Championships Main Event, earning himself $97,936.  Just three months later, Goldman would return for the Isle Open Main Event, and once again finished in that second spot.  The result was worth almost exactly the same amount, as Isaiah walked away with $97,511.

Those results sit as his top two cashes to this day, and helped Goldman build a resume that now boasts over $242,000 in lifetime earnings.  Goldman currently shares the table with the likes of Albert
Barney and Ory Hen, and headlines the second look at notables in today's Flight 1D field:

Scott Zakheim
Nagui Yassa
Joel Duetsch
Andre Rakusa
Andreas Athanosopoulos
Marc Sacheli
Elliot Zaydman

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): When Players Are Bypassing Cash, You Know It's A Solid Event

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Flight 1D Entries: 38

Casey Kaplan (Sunrise, FL) is very particular about what tournaments he plays these days, but wasn't going to allow this weekend to pass, without putting at least one entry into Event #9.

During the 2016 SHRPO, there was a $570 No Limit Hold'em event that attracted 2,923 entries, and had an official prize pool of $1,461,500.  Casey Kaplan (Sunrise, FL) would end up one of four players to chop the event, earning himself $134,700, which was his largest tournament cash by far.  The result was followed up by (22) more cashes over the next two years, but Kaplan's tournament volume went down as the time passed.  His focus was more on the cash games, with the balance tipped so far in that direction, that he's only recorded one result this year (during the WSOP Circuit at Coconut Creek).

Now while cash comes first for Kaplan, that doesn't mean he's going to allow an event like this to pass, without firing at least one shot at bagging.  Kaplan is one of the "early birds" in the field, joining the likes of:

Thomas Gari
Gil Aboodi
Bruce Snell
Dylan Drazen
Matthew Lambrecht
Sheldon Gross
Stephen Krackomberger

The field will be heading on their first break at the end of this level, returning to Level 4, and new blinds of 200/300/300.

FSPC Event #9 (Flight 1D): No Longer A Warm-Up To The Main Event, Event #9 Has Become A True Headliner...Final Flight Approaches

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $200,000 GTD
Level 1 (Blinds 100/100)
Total Flight 1D Entries: N/A

After a Flight 1C that saw a total of (103) entries in the field, Event #9 of the 2018 Florida State Poker Championships officially became a "special event."  The tournament, which boasts the second largest guarantee of the series, has already seen the posted number eclipsed.  The official prize pool sits at $224,580, and will very like grow to over $350,000 this evening.

For that reason, today's final flight is expected to attract a very large field, with the word spreading about the success of the tournament.  Players that enter today's flight are all going to be chasing Evan Teitelbaum (Parkland, FL), who bagged an very impressive stack of 457,500.  During Level 9 of yesterday's play, Evan won a massive three-way all-in, where he flopped trips against the nut-flush draw and over pair.  From there, Teitelbaum would trend in the right direction, and ended up bagging the overall day 2 chip lead.

It's almost like the British Open (which is currently in it's final round), in the sense that those already in the clubhouse with a good score, can wait and see what happens with the leaders.  Players to have bagged already are "already in the clubhouse," and are assured a chance to grab a piece of this massive Event #9 prize pool.  Those that enter today's play are doing the "chasing," and trying to find a number that will put them in a good position for tomorrow's action.

Live blogged coverage will begin with a post featuring the combined chip counts from the first three flights, before shifting focus to the players in today's Flight 1D.

Sunday, July 22nd: With A Prize Pool Expected To Reach $350,000, Sunday Is All About Event #9 Final Chances

ICYMI: Yesterday was all about the third of four starting flights for Event #9, as Flight 1C ended up attracted the largest field to this point in the tournament.  When the bagging process started, the tournament clock would show (103) entries, with (23) players successfully packing away chips for tomorrow's (Monday) Day 2.  Propelled by a big win in a three-way all-in during Level 9, Evan Teitelbaum (Parkland, FL) would earn himself a Florida State Poker Championship Main Event seat, after bagging the Flight 1C chip lead (457,500).  That number was almost 200,000 more than his nearest competitor, with Mark Shulla bagging 271,500.  Former reality show star Albert Destrade rounded out the top three, packing away 265,000 for tomorrow's action.

The official number after three flights now see a total of (228) entries for Event #9, with (49) players heading to tomorrow's Day 2.  The tournament's guarantee was surpassed yesterday, as the official prize pool sits at $224,580.  With today's flight expected to be the largest of the four, we are looking at an official prize pool that could potentially reach $350,000.

ICYMI: With that being said, today's overall schedule should be a very busy one, with two satellites in addition to the final starting flight of Event #9.  The action gets underway at 10:00am, with a $130 No Limit Hold'em Satellite Into Event #9, a 1 in 10 entries will be awarded a seat.  The satellite is structured with 10,000 units, and levels that last (15) minutes, making this a "turbo" format event.  Registration is open through Level 10, allowing players just over three hours to join the action.

As that satellite sees registration wind down, the final flight of Event #9 will begin, with cards in the air for Flight 1D at 1:00pm.  While the time is different than the three that came before it, Flight 1D does have the same structure.  Players will be sitting down to starting stacks of 30,000 units, and playing levels that last (40) minutes (Levels 1-13).  Registration is open throughout the entire day of play, including before the first hand is dealt on Day 2.

The final Event #9 satellite gets underway at 6:00pm, and is of the $250 price point (1 in 5 entries will be awarded an Event #9 seat).  The satellite is structured with starting stacks of 12,000 units, and levels that last (20) minutes.  Registration is open through Level 8, and will stay open through the ten minute break that follows.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-6:00pm, with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.

It should also be noted that players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand.  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
