CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Eric Brewster Eliminates Raminder Singh On The Flight 1A Money Bubble

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/4,000)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 17

Eric Brewster (West Palm Beach, FL) just became everyone's favorite Flight 1A player, after eliminating Raminder Singh, and sending the remaining field into the money.

Hand-for-hand play didn't last long, but it was pretty eventful.  Michael Garavuso doubled through Peter Udovik in a 300,000 pot, with Michael's J♠ J♣ holding up, against Peter's A♠ K♣ (all-in pre).  Udovik looked to be in danger of then bubbling, but just a few feet away, Raminder Singh was all-in and at risk.  Singh held A♣ Q♣ on a Q 5 8♣ flop, but was against the K♠ K of Eric Brewster.  The turn and river would run out clean for Eric, which meant that Raminder would be the Flight 1A "bubble boy."

Everyone that remains in the field is guaranteed at least $500, but the ultimate goal is to reach the bagging process, which will begin when (7) players remain.

Eric Brewster - 240,000 (60bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): From Running Away...To Walking Away, Derek Williams Eliminated By Aaron Porter

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/4,000)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 18

Aaron Porter (Miami, FL) has benefited from Derek Williams' activity, assuming the chip lead after knocking Derek out just short of the money.

Derek Williams looked like he was going to run away with the flight's chip lead, but became very active once he assumed the top spot, which would eventually be his demise.  Just moments ago, Williams would check-shove for approximately 70,000, after Aaron Porter bet on the turn of a Q♣ 5 8 board.  Derek was in really rough shape, holding Q 10 against Porter's 8♠ 8♣.  Aaron would end up making quads on the river, which was good for the high hand (this tournament is high hand eligible), but ended up getting knocked off the board moments later.

Brandon Ageloff would then be eliminated just a few hands later, leaving the field on the money bubble.  The clock is currently paused, and hand-for-hand play will commence, until the next player is eliminated.

Aaron Porter - 330,000 (82bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Players Return From Break Close To The Money, With Peter Udovik Back On Top

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 13 (Blinds 1,500/2,500/2,500)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 25

Peter Udovik got a little stick with his pocket eights on the K♠ K 10♠ flop, calling a bet from Erik Christensen, but ended up spiking a full house on the turn.

Players are just returning to their seats, after the third (10) minute break of the day.  At the midway point of Level 12, Peter Udovik won a 170,000 chip pot, in which he eliminated Tom Gity and Erik Christensen. After peeling a K K♠ 10♠ flop, Udovik's 8♠ 8♣ filled up with the 8 on the turn, with Erik then turning his hand into a bluff on the river (Erik held Q♣ 10♣ on the K K♠ 10♠ 8 Q♠ runout).

Play will continue until (18) players remain, at which point the clock will be paused, and hand-for-hand will begin (until the money bubble is burst).

Peter Udovik - 230,000

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Derrick Williams Trying To Run Away With The Chiplead

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/2,000)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 31

Derek Williams (Gerladine, AL) has been super active since assuming the chip lead, which has been both a blessing...and a curse to his stack.

After a four year gap in tournament cashes, Derek Williams (Geraldine, AL) managed to grab a result during last year's Florida State Poker Championship (8th place in Event #12, for a cash of $939).  That still stands as Derek's last cash, but he's looking to change that in a big way, as he leads the Flight 1A field, heading to the third break of the day.  Williams peaked at 260,000 during Level 11, but has found himself slipping a little, entering Level 12 with 190,000.

Derek had the opportunity to eclipse 300,000 just moments ago, as he held 3♠ 6♠ on a 4 5 7 flop, with two players all-in ahead of him.  He was up against 5♠ 5♣ and K 6, with the board pairing on the turn, which saw Williams lose a small chunk of his stack.

Derek Williams - 190,000 (95bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Christensen Doubles Through Juan Martinez, As They End Up Swapping Stacks

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/1,600)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 34

Erik Christensen managed to get himself out of the "danger zone," after doubling through Juan Martinez towards the end of Level 10.

Just as one of the outer tables was breaking (Table 13), we'd pass Table 9, with Juan Martinez opening the action with a raise to 2,600.  Action folded around to Erik Christensen, who three-bet shoved for just over 20,000.  The remaining players folded behind, and after assessing his stack, Martinez would make the call:

Martinez: 9 9
Christensen: A♠ K♣

Runout: Q 4♠ 10♣ 6♣ J

Juan's hand would stay in the lead through the turn, but couldn't hold on, as Christensen rivered a straight.  Erik is still below the chip average (58,000), but sits with a stack that is over thirty blinds.  Christensen is just days removed from a deep run in the $5,250 No Limit Hold'em SHRPO Championship Event, where he finished in 30th place ($34,045).

Erik Christensen - 50,000 (31bb)
Juan Martinez - 24,000 (14bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Updated Chip Counts From The Flight 1A Field

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/1,200)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 47

Research doesn't yield any results from the current Flight 1A chip leader, as Chris Fragakis sits with a stack of 160,000.

The field is now (30) eliminations from the money, with players busting at a pretty rapid pace.  Chris Fragakis is currently leading the field, sitting with a stack of 160,000.  He is trailed closely by Aaron Porter (158,000) and Derrick Williams (150,000).  While it's still early to name a favorite, we should remind players that there is a "chip lead bonus" up for grabs.  The largest stack from this flight (at the bagging process) will earn entry into Event #8 of this series, which is the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Main Event ($250,000 GTD).  Some updated counts from the field are posted below:

Chris Fragakis - 160,000 (133bb)
Aaron Porter - 158,000 (131bb)
Derrick Williams - 150,000 (125bb)
Eric Brewster - 100,000 (83bb)
Ido Ashkenazi - 95,000 (79bb)
Peter Udovik- 95,000 (79bb)
Richy Russ - 90,000 (75bb)
Pasquale Caiazza - 85,000 (70bb)
Raminder Singh - 80,000 (66bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Opening Flight Of CPPT Event #1 Sees Registration Close With (129) Entries

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/1,000)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 129
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 55

Cards are back in the air, with the registration for Flight 1A of the CPPT Event #1 official closed.  The first of six flights attracted a total of (129) entries, which equates to a prize pool of $38,700.  This pace alone would eclipse the $200,000 posted guarantee, but with big numbers expected over the weekend, we could see this prize pool reach some incredible heights.  Listed below, are the Day 1 payouts for this flight, with action for the night stopping when (7) players remain:

8-10. $700
11-13. $600
14-17. $500

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Jackpot Flop Sees Scott Robbins Double Up Before Registration's Close

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/800)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 128

Scott Robbins (Millbury, MA) may have cost himself some chips by prematurely exposing his hand, but he was still able to double-up nonetheless.

At Table 13, three players would see a flop of 7♣ 7 7, with A. Nonymous quickly pushing his 30,000 stack across his cards (first to act).  Before the second player could even act, Scott Robbins tabled his hand (Q Q♣), eliciting a fold from the unknown player (who claimed to have had Ax Kx).  Robbins watched as his opponent table 8 8♠, which was a massive underdog heading to the turn.  The turn (10) and river (4) would run clean for Robbins, who stack was then counted down by the dealer.  His 24,200 would be matched by A. Nonymous, helping Scott eclipse the 50,000 mark.

While the premature exposure of his hand may have been a "rookie" move, Robbins is surely no newbie to the game. He is coming off a cash in both the $5,250 No Limit Hold'em SHRPO Championship Event (44th place for $17,333), and $1,100 No Limit Hold'em "Big 4" event (24th place for $4,544).

Scott Robbins - 51,000 (63bb)

Players will be heading on their second break of the day, at the end of this level, and will be returning to Level 9 (500/1,000/1,000).  Once play resumes after break, registration for the event will be closed, and we will be able to bring you official numbers from the opening flight of Event #1.

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Peter Udovik Starts Fast, First To Eclipse The Century Mark

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/600)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 122

Peter Udovik (Boca Raton, FL) may only have five recorded results on his Hendon Mob resume, but two of those cashes are trophy wins in major Isle Casino Pompano Park series (Isle Open and Isle Classic).

There are numerous players off to quick starts across the field, but none like that of Peter Udovik (Boca Raton, FL), who is already sitting with 130,000 in front of him.  Udovik has just five results on his tournament resume, totaling a combined $4,359 in career earnings.  He has one cash this year, finishing in 23rd place of a $100 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 GTD) at Seminole Hard Rock ($206).  Peter does have two tournament wins (of the five scores), both of which came at this property.  He seems to step up in the big spots, as those wins were trophy events, during the 2017 Isle Poker Open and Isle Classic.  A deep run in this event could see Udovik eclipse his career earnings with one score, but we are still a long way from discussing final table runs.  For now, Peter will likely head to the registration break with the chip lead.

Peter Udovik - 130,000 (216bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): It's Been A While, But The "Boom-Shaka-Laka" Returns

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 6 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 119

Juan Martinez (Dade City, FL) is usually very chatty at the table, but he only saves the "boom-shaka-laka" for a few choice moments.

We've heard it before from Juan Martinez (Dade City, FL), but it's been a while since the "boom-shaka-laka" made an appearance at the table.  Just moments ago, we'd pass Table 9, as three players were on a flop of 4♠ 3 2♠.  After Martinez and Tom Gity checked (small and big blind), the third player in the hand placed forward a bet (in the 2,500 range).  Martinez then check-raised to 7,300 (which is the point where the hand was caught), with Gity shoving for 34,500.  The original bettor laid down his hand, and Martinez would make the call (for less):

Martinez: 4 5♠
Gity: J J♣

Turn: 10
River: A♣

Martinez would make his straight on the river, with Gity slamming his hands down on the table's rail, clearly frustrated with the outcome.  "Boom-shaka-laka," Martinez replied, with a celebratory fist pump after the river.  The two would continue with some verbal jarring well after the hand, as Gity let Martinez know how he felt about his play.

Juan Martinez - 47,000 (94bb)

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): With The Flight 1A Field Speeding Past The Century Mark, We Continue The List Of Notables

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/400)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 110

Paul Balzano (Sunrise, FL) is very high up on the "who loves it more" list, rarely skipping the opportunity to play events in the area, regardless of their price-point.

The Flight 1A field cracked the century mark just as Level 3 started, and has continued to grow, with the number of early bustouts pretty eye-opening.  It's not often that you see players getting into (100+) big blind pots, but they are happening across the field.  While a lot of the recent entries we've seen are players entering for the second time, there have also been new names to the field, which weren't mentioned in earlier posts.

One of those players is Paul Balzano (Sunrise, FL), a well-known tournament professional, who is just days removed from playing under the bright lights.  Balzano reached the final table of the SHRPO's Event #21 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em), which was part of the "Big 4," a group of tournaments that had their final tables streamed live.  Paul would finish in 5th place, earning $29,933, and helping bring his lifetime total over $1,462,000.  The result was Paul's third of the series, and fourth in the past month, when you include his deep run in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em FSPC Main Event (37th place for $3,480).

Paul headlines our third (and what should likely be final) look at the notables in today's field, as we shift focus towards the action at the tables:

David Oshry
Jose Parra
Paulius Bikus
Patrick Biancone
Brandon Ageloff
Stephen Krackomberger
James Hamburger
Thomas Puccio
Ory Hen
Daniel Heimiller
David Poces
Michael Ortiz

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): As We Were Saying...Ido Ashkenazi Enters The Fray, Just Days Removed From Six-Figure Finish

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 4 (Blinds 200/300/300)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 105

Ido Ashkenazi (Davie, FL) may not be sporting his patented mirrored sunglass at the table, but he is sporting a much "healthier" bankroll, after cashing for over $170,000 during the SHRPO series.

Jay Romano had a great SHRPO, but Ido Ashkenazi (Davie, FL) said "hold my beer."  Ido not only reached the final table of Event #1 (along with Romano), but he bookmarked the series with a final table finish in the $5,250 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event.  Ashkenazi ended up finishing in sixth place, which was good for $156,215, what stands as his second largest tournament cash.  The scores come just a few weeks after Ido's deep run in the FSPC $1,500 Main Event, where he would reach the final two tables of the event (17th place for $8,033).

Ashkenazi's career earnings are now over $735,000, with $500,000 of that number coming in the last three years of results.  Ido has some tough company at his opening table of the event, sharing the felt with Erik Christensen, Elliot Zaydman, Juan Martinez, Raminder Singh, and Tom Gity.

Players will be heading on their first break of the day at the end of this level, returning to blinds of 200/400/400 (Level 5).  There will then be four more levels of open registration, before the flight closes for the afternoon (no more entries once Level 9 play resumes).

CPPT Event #1 (Flight 1A): Jay Romano Sits Down With Great Confidence, Coming Off Career Best Score

2018 Card Player Poker Tour (Isle Casino Pompano Park)
Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 88

Jay Romano (Parkland, FL) was one of the first players in today's Flight 1A field, looking to set himself up for another deep run, in a large field multi.

With the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open wrapping up just a few days ago, we are sure to see a lot of players during this series, that are coming off nice tournament scores.  During this $360 No Limit Hold'em event, it's likely that not many in this event's field matches Jay Romano's (Parkland, FL) most recent score.

Romano outlasted a field of 3,064 entries in Event #1 of the SHRPO ($570 No Limit Hold'em), eventually chopping the tournament three-ways, for a career best $160,000 cash.  This was Romano's second career six-figure cash, with his first coming during the 2013 Isle Open, when he won the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event ($100,000).  Jay's career earnings are now $337,197, but he's already looking for more, as he was one of the first player's seated in this opening flight of the Card Player Poker Tour Event #1.

Some other notables in this opening flight include:

Zachary Mullinex
Kenneth Bruno
Frank Scala
Stanton Drazen
Eric Brewster
Frederico Dabus
Stanley Aufseeser
Scott Zakheim
Paul Balzano
Michale Tufaro
Richard Wetter

Event #1 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 2 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Flight 1A Entries: 66

There will be no "intimate" field to start this series, as Flight 1A is off to a very fast start, with over (65) entries in the field (as Level 2 starts).  If the potential of healthy final table payouts weren't enough for this tournament, there have been "added seats" to this tournament, for those that finish in tenth place or better.  The final ten players of CPPT Event #1 will receive entry into the $175 No Limit Hold'em ($25,000 GTD), which is scheduled for August 28th (6:00pm).

The final three players of that tournament ($175 NLH $25,000 GTD) will also entry a free seat, this time into September's opening multi ($360 No Limit Hold'em running from September 6th through September 9th).

In a recent interview, Poker Room Director Kenneth Lambert said that one of his goals for the Isle Casino Pompano Park Poker Room, was to to make the room known country-wide.  While he felt the room was a regional powerhouse, Lambert wanted to do something that would attract players from different areas of the map, and partnered with the Card Player Poker Tour.  The tour was started by Card Player Media, the publishers of Card Player magazine, and CardPlayer.com.  This is now the sixth season of the tour, with series ran at some of the most well-known poker room's in the country (Wynn, Venetian, Foxwoods, Bicycle Casino, Maryland Live!, Choctaw, etc).

The series here at the Isle Pompano Park will run for the next eleven days, with ten events on the schedule, as well as satellites into many of the tournaments.  The action begins in just a few minutes, with Event #1, which is a $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD).  The event is structured with 20,000 unit starting stacks, and levels that last (30) minutes on Day 1 (transitioning to 40 minutes on Day 2).  Registration for each starting flight is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows), with play scheduled to conclude when the field reaches the 5% mark.  Day 1 payouts return, which was a wrinkle that we saw during the last major series (Florida State Poker Championship), as 12.5% make the money.  Players that bag chips in any of the opening flights will return on Monday for Day 2 (12:00pm).  Lets not forget about the "chip lead bonus," as the largest stack from each flight will earn entry into CPPT Event #8, which is the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Main Event ($250,000 GTD).

Live blogged coverage of the tournament will be offered during each of the afternoon starting flights (Flight 1A, Flight 1B, Flight 1D, and Flight 1F), and will continue through Day 2 of the event (Monday).

Tournaments: And with no further adieu...the Card Player Poker Tour series is upon on.  While the schedule doesn't "officially" start until 2:00pm, there is a $90 No Limit Hold'em Satellite Into Event #1 at 10:00am.  The satellite is structured with 10,000 unit starting stacks, (20) minute levels, and has a (5) seat guarantee (registration is open through Level 8).

At 2:00pm, Event #1 gets undenay, with the cards flying for the first of six starting flights for the tournament (Flight 1A).

At 6:00pm, players will have yet another opportunity to satellite into Event #1, with a $90 No Limit Hold'em Satellite, which boasts a (5) seat guarantee.  The satellite's structure is the same as the 10:00am installment ran earlier in the day.
