Monday, November 29th: Sunday's $20,000 GTD Has It's First Overlay, As Two Event Remain For Players To Climb The Leaderboard Rankings

ICYMI: Yesterday's $400 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 GTD) made headlines, as it was the first time that the event had not reached it's number needed to meet the guarantee.  At the midway point of open registration, the field only had (20) entries, and it was clear that there may be an overlay.  Word began to spread across the poker community, and the field ended up doubling in size, by the time the registration window closed.  The (39) entries meant that the poker room would be putting up the money needed to reach the $20,000 guaranteed prize pool, which was scheduled to be spread across five pay-spots.  The tournament's action played down to a seven-way final table, at which point the remaining group agreed to a chop.  Everyone took home at least $1,760, with first place (Jason Brown) taking home $3,958.  Official results from the tournament are listed below, along with an updated Player of the Month leaderboard.  Those that are still in contention for the top spot, have two events remaining in November, and can still eclipse Pedro Palacio's number (pending he does not continue to distance himself from the field):
  1. Jason Brown (Delray Beach, FL) $3,958
  2. Elliot Goldman (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $3,893
  3. Scott Herrmann (Las Vegas, NV) $3,113
  4. Jonathan Gordon (Coral Springs, FL) $2,724
  5. Luis Dominguez (Miami Beach, FL) $2,344
  6. Jonathan Marcu (Boca Raton, FL) $2,208
  7. Anthony Talavera (Sunrise, FL) $1,760

Tournaments: At 6:00pm this evening, the $250 No Limit Hold'em ($10,000 GTD) "Final Table Finish" returns, with a little wrinkle.  This particular tournament had such a good structure, that the final table action ran into the closing time of the poker room (players are then faced with chopping, or bagging for a Day 2).  To keep that from occurring, there will be some slight changes moving forward.

The event will be structured with 25,000 chip starting stacks, (20) minute levels, and open registration through Level 8 (and the break that follows).  The new format-wrinkle comes into play when discussing payouts, as the tournament will pay out just the final table, regardless of how many entries.  Exact payout percentages are as follows (final tables are now nine-handed):
  1. 40%
  2. 18%
  3. 10%
  4. 7%
  5. 7%
  6. 6%
  7. 6%
  8. 3%
  9. 3%
Promotions: From 10:00am (the minute the doors open) until 11:00pm, $300 high hands will be awarded every (30) minutes. These high hands must be aces-full or better, use both hole cards, and be the winning hand (in a pot that has at least $10).  From 11:00pm until close, $100 high hands will be awarded every (30) minutes.
