Event 16 (Flight 1G): Bercot Looking To Bag Overall Chip Lead

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 16 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/400)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 183
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 35

Troy Bercot (Palmetto, FL)

With the clock paused and four hands remaining in the flight, Troy Bercot (Palmetto, FL) sits with over 400,000 in front of him, and is in contention for overall Day 2 chipleader.  Troy was sitting with just over average as Level 16 started, but got involved in a sizable pot with Curtis Daye.  The chips got in on the flop, as Bercot held a set against Daye's top pair, with the turn and river to decide the winner of a 350,000 pot.  Date would end up drawing dead on the turn, and Bercot then assumed the chip lead.

The remaining players will finish out the final four hands, and the bagging process will then begin.  It will take a little longer to verify counts for this flight (as we have double the average players remaining in this flight), but official counts will be posted once they are made official.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Entering Final Level Of Play

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 16 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/400)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 183
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 46

Flight 1G play is now entering the final level of play, with (46) players remaining on five active tables.  The chip average is just under 100,000, which gives those holding that sized stack over (30) big blinds, but there is a large group playing well below that number.  We should see a lot of action as players try to better their position heading into Day 2, while our focus will be on the race for the flight's chip lead.  Once the flight has concluded, a post with the top stack will be published, with the full list of official chip counts to follow shortly thereafter.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Back From Final Break, Updated Chip Counts

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 13 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 158
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 67

David Haimes (Weston, FL)

Players returned moments ago from their final break of the flight, with David Haimes (Weston, FL) leading the way.  Haimes, who sits with just over 165,000, has a tournament resume with two recorded cashes (totaling $850).  There are a handful of players well within reach of Haimes, so it will be interesting to follow the final four flights as they play out.

David Haimes -165,000
Ali Oskovie - 160,000
Tim Moran - 140,000
Claudio Docarmo - 130,000
Joe Mancuso - 105,000
Linda Lipkins - 100,000

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Docarmo Runs Out Pure

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 12 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 183
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 83

Claudio Docarmo (Deerfield Beach, FL) just vaulted up the leaderboard moments ago, as he eliminated three players from the field in one hand.  After an open-shove for 12,200, Claudio made the call from middle position, and watched as two other short stacks shoved behind.  The two players to shove had stack of 20,100 and 19,700 respective, and Claudio was never folding for another 9,900, getting over six-to-one on a call.  Docarmo tossed the chips in for a call, the dealer figured out the two side pots, and the cards were tabled:

Docarmo: A 8
Player X: K K♣
Player Y: Q♠ Q
Player Z: K Q♣

Docarmo was calling for an ace on the flop, but he'd actually gain some extra outs on the flop of 5♣ 6 7.  The  J♣ on the turn would miss Docarmo, but the 4 on the river would give Claudio the winning straight.  Docarmo couldn't do anything but laugh as the players collected their things and exited the tournament area.  He is now over 125,000, and is one of the chip leaders in the field.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): First Look At Chip Counts

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 10 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 183
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 99

The Flight 1G field is below the (100) player mark for the first time since the first few levels of the day, as the increasing blinds are beginning to catch up to the smaller stacks.  The chip average is currently 47,000 (47 big blinds), but the (25) minute levels do tend to force the action as the clock winds down on the flight.  Here are some of the larger stacks in the field as play hits the middle of Level 10:

Steve Lake - 140,000
Roman Ojeda - 110,000
David Haimes - 100,000
Tim Moran - 85,000
Pedro Aldave - 75,000
Curtis Daye - 75,000
Linda Lipkins - 70,000

There is a large group of players sitting in the 65,000-75,000 range, but as we reach the final break of the day (after Level 12), we should begin to see some separation in the field.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Looking To Go Back To Back

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 9 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 183
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 105

Pedro Aldave (Hallandale Beach, FL)

Players have just returned from their second (10) minute break of the day, and now that the cards are in the air for Level 9, registration is closed for this flight.  A total of (183) entries for the flight means that Flight 1H needs (139) entries to reach the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.  It's a number that should surely be reached, as these weekend "night" flights tend to attract some sizable crowds.

Pedro Aldave (Hallandale Beach, FL) was just spotted in the field, as the Event 10 winner (top prize in an eight-way chop) looks to go for back-to-back "major" event titles.  Aldave is off to a strong start this afternoon, and looks to be sitting with a top ten stack.  Attention can now be focused on the actual poker action, as the (105) players remaining try to navigate their way to a Day 2 bag.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Always Better...Second Time Around

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 6 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 164
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 123

Bryce McVay (Jupiter, FL)

Bryce McVay (Jupiter, FL) was a Tampa-based poker professional, but he now calls Jupiter home, and has been a frequenting tournaments here at the Isle Poker Room.  McVay has already cashed twice in this series (Event 1 and Event 2), and while his start to the day was a rough one, his second bullet is going much better.

Bryce made a very "speculative" call earlier for most of his stack, but returned to a new table and is now one of the chip leaders in the field (85,000).  McVay shares the felt with one of his good friends, another Isle Poker notable, John Palace (Jupiter, FL).  Some other late arrivals into this Flight 1G field include:

Guillermo Irving
Karin Powsner
Robert Perniola
Roni Dreszer
Brian Brown
Vito Polera
Evan Dollinger
Larry Richie
Gustavo Perla

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Breaking Down The Numbers

Total Flight 1G Entries: 158
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 128

Breakdown of attendance
There have been many mentions made about the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool for this event, and whether or not this tournament will get the numbers to reach said guarantee.  The chart to the left shows a breakdown of each flight up to this point, including how many re-entries there were, as well as players remaining at the end of the flight.

The numbers may have started off slow, but other than the transition from Flight 1B to Flight 1C, things have steadily increased as the flights passed.  With only two flights remaining in the event coming into today, the number for each flight was (161) to reach the guarantee.  There are currently (158) in this opening flight of the day, and with two more levels of open registration, we should eclipse (161) pretty easily.  Things will come down to the final flight of the event, which is a pattern we haven't seen during these seasonal series, but we have to consider the number of other tournaments currently going on in the area.

Once registration closes (once the first card is in the air for Level 9) for this flight, we will have an exact number of entries needed for Flight 1H, and we can also focus on the action across the field.

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Looking Forward To "Battle At The Beach"

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 5 (Blinds 150/300/25)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 148
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 128

As we wind down this year's installment of the Isle Poker Classic (after a year's hiatus), we can begin to look forward to the next "series" on the calendar.  The 2017 "Battle At The Beach" schedule offers a total of (17) events over the course of three weeks.  The three highlighting events of the series offer guarantees of $125,000 (Event 1), $200,000 (Event 8), and $500,000 (Event 14).  Over the course of the series, there will be (68) seats given away to the championship event via satellite, and two non-no limit hold'em events (Omaha 8B). Overall, this series boasts a total of $1,000,000 in guarantees, and is surely going to be something you want to circle on the calendar!

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Miles Away From Ordinary

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 142
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 123

Edgard Mendes (Miami, FL)

It's a very fitting title for a player nicknamed "Corona," as he is usually seen seated at the table with his trademark bottle of Corona.  Mendes is a staple at tournaments here at the Isle Poker Room, and has amassed a pretty impressive resume.  Mendes has over $55,000 in career (recorded) earnings, a good portion of which came from his deep run in the championship event of the 2015 Isle Poker Classic (5th Place - $26,750).  Edgard has already recorded one cash this series, reaching the final table of Event 6 ($100 NLH Monster Stack), and finishing in 8th place ($222).  Mendes headlines our second wave of notables in the field, which includes the likes of:

Shlomo Maman
Julie McGrath
Hari Sukhu
Kimberly Jones
Morris Heider
Michael Sklar
John Scigliano
Alan Greenstein
Duane Minerva
Mark Bernstein
Iftikhar Memon

Event 16 (Flight 1G): Familiar Faces Across The Field

Event 16 ($150 No Limit Hold'em Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 3 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 112
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 108

Curtis Daye (Miami, FL)

Curtis Daye (Miami, FL) was primed to make a deep run last week in Event 10, finding himself one of the chip leaders as the field reached the money.  The only problem that day, Curtis couldn't stop getting involved in hands with Luke "Big Money" Rosenberg, who was just steamrolling the early to middle stages of Day 2.  While Daye rebuilt his chip stack a few times, he would eventually fall at the hands of Rosenberg, and would earn his first recorded Hendon Mob cash (45th Place - $192).

Daye is just one of a large group of Isle Poker Room notables currently in this afternoon flight:

Steve Lipkins
Linda Lipkins
David Albertson
David Ward
Daniel Genachte
Benjamin Robinson
Marty Robbins
Bob Flacco
Nachum Lumelski
Aaron Shefter

$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 1 (Blinds 25/50)
Total Flight 1G Entries: 44
Flight 1G Players Remaining: 44

The penultimate flight of Event 16 is about to get underway in the poker room.

Tournament Director Ralph Brandt just made the rules announcement to the players in the Flight 1G field, and the cards are now in the air.  While the start is similar to the flights that came before, you can expect for this field size to grow exponentially over the next few hours.  As mentioned earlier, both flights on today's schedule need to average (161) entries (per) in order to reach the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.  If last night's Flight 1F field size (152) is a sign of things to come, then we should have no problem attaining those numbers.  As players continue to fill the tournament area, we will take an initial look at those in the field, will live updates beginning shortly.

Saturday, January 21st: Saturday's Alright For Flighting

As expected, Friday's flights of Event 16 had close to double the amount of the two days prior.  A total of (246) entries took a shot at bagging chips for Sunday's Day 2, with (40) players successfully doing so.  The Flight 1E chip leader was Craig Schlesinger (Nashville, TN), who leads the entire Day 2 field with 409,000.  Flight 1F had the largest field of the six played to this point, attracting a total of (152) entries.  When the bagging process began, it would be Diego Silva Peres on top of the leaderboard, putting away 368,000 for Sunday.

Today is the final opportunity for players to try and join the Day 2 field, which has (92) members to this point.  "Live blog coverage" of Flight 1G will begin just after the first level of the day is completed, and will continue through the bagging process.  Today's flights each need to average (162) entries in order to reach the $100,000 guarantee, which should be more than attainable.  At one point it seemed as if there would be an overlay for this event, but as we've seen time and time before, the Isle Poker Room faithful always come out for a great value.
