BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): Play Is Tremendously Deep As Registration Window Closes

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 10 (Blinds 1,000/1,500/1,500)
Total Event #10 Entries: 100

Tom Moran (Palm Bay, FL) is hoping to turn his "free" entry into this tournament into a five-figure cash...which would be a career highlighting score.

The 100th entry joined the field just moments ago, meaning that Event #10 has reached it's posted guarantee of $50,000, with just over twenty minutes remaining in registration.  Even more eye-opening than the third blinds a player can buy in with (in Level 10), is the fact that the current chip average is close to (100) big blinds at this point.

That being said, there haven't been many players to really separate themselves from the rest of the field, with the largest stack just over 200,000.  That stack belongs to Tom Moran (Palm Bay, FL), who was one of the "chip lead bonus" winners from Event #1.  The players that remain at registrations close should expect a long haul ahead, as this structure will see the tournament playing very deep into the night (with the potential for players bagging for a Day 2).

There will be a brief break at the end of this level, and once play resumes, we will bring you the official numbers from the field (payouts and updated chip counts).

BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): Superb Structure Allows Late Entries Lots Of Play

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 6 (Blinds 300/600/500)
Total Event #10 Entries: 85

Players choosing to by in during Level 11 will sit down with 75,000 units, with the blinds at 1,000/1,500/1,000.

Outside of certain larger buy-in events (like Championship Events of these series), players buying in at the end of registration will usually sit down to stacks of ten to fifteen blinds.  Not in today's Event #10 though, players who choose to buy in at the last possible second in today's tournament, will join the action with over (30) big blinds!!!

The field of (85) entries is still short of the $50,000 posted guarantee, but the registration window is still open for over two more hours, so it's likely we will see the prize pool reach that number.

BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): Alex Nguyen Making Rare Tournament Appearance

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 4 (Blinds 100/300/300)
Total Event #10 Entries: 73

Alex Nguyen (Coral Springs, FL) has had some face-time on the blog, but hasn't been seen in a tournament since last year's Battles At The Beach Championship Event.

Certain events in a series, that boast either a great structure or guarantee (or both), will bring out some players that don't usually play tournaments frequently.  Alex Nguyen (Coral Springs, FL) falls into that group, concentrating most of his focus on higher stakes cash games.  Followers of the blog may recognize Alex's name though, from deep runs in the 2016 Isle Open $1,500 Championship Event (5th Place - $31,770), and last year's Battles At The Beach $1,500 Championship Event (22nd Place - $4,555).  That result (from the Battles At The Beach) happens to be the last result recorded for Nguyen, who is in the field today, hoping to post his first cash of 2018.

Other late entries into this Event #10 field include:

Elliot Zaydman
Al Gomez
Alan Dobrow
Terry Siele
David MacDonald
David Moreno
Julian Gallo

Players will be taking their first break at Level 4's conclusion, returning to Level 5, and new blinds of 200/400/400.

BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): Ian Cohen Looking For A Second Series Title

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Event #10 Entries: 53

Ian Cohen (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) already has a 2018 Battles At The Beach trophy on his mantle, and is in the early Event #10 field, looking to add another.

Ian Cohen (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is yet another player will success in these single-ante format tournaments,  including a win in last weeks Event #2 ($250 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante).  Along with the trophy, Cohen walked away with $5,774 for first place money, after heading a four-way chop of the event.  The score is just three months removed from his career best cash, which came during an $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante event, run during the Isle Classic.  Cohen chopped that event heads-up with Anthony Utnage, taking second pace money, which was worth $16,873.  Cohen has four total cashes in single-ante format tournaments, and is hoping to add yet another this afternoon.

Cohen headlines the first group of notables in the field, which includes names like:

Francois Gagne
Richard Leger
Jaime Wiegrefe
Oleg Efremov
Zaki Lichaa
Nancy Thomas
Dwight Pinkerton
Rodney Moret-Rojas
Michael Graffeo

BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): The Group Looking To Parlay The Free Roll

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 2 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Event #10 Entries: 39

Scott Efron (Boca Raton, FL) has a good amount of experience with this single-ante format, as his Hendon Mob resume boasts numerous cashes during these events.

The Event #10 field, which is already up to (39) entries, is compiled of a wide array of players...included twelve that are in the event for "free."  The word "free" may be used loosely, as it did cost them $175, which was their buy-in for Event #1.  The players that held the top two chip stacks from each Event #1 opening flight, earned entry into today's event, as part of the "chip lead bonus."

One of those players looking to parlay that free seat into a five figure score is Scott Efron (Boca Raton, FL), who is currently seated at Table 4.  Efron is a tournament veteran with over $347,000 in lifetime tournament earnings.  Scott has numerous large scores on his resume, but is still looking for his first Isle Poker title.  Efron came just one spot short last year, after falling to Alex Turyansky heads-up, in the Isle Poker Open $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante event (2nd Place - $28,497).  The other players making up the list of "chip lead bonus" entries are:

David Albertson
Omar Yates
Make Dube
Donald Williams
Joshua Zur
Frank Scala
Ross Ramal
Anthony Albano
Frederico Camara
Tuan Phan
Tom Moran

BATB Event #10 ($560 NLH Single-Ante): The Single-Ante Format Enters Uncharted Territory, Action Now Underway

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #10 | $560 NLH Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD)

Level 1 (Blinds 100/100)
Total Event #10 Entries: N/A

The single-ante action gets a little larger this afternoon, as players arrive for Event #10 of the 2018 Battles At The Beach, a $560 No Limit Hold'em tournament with a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool.  The single-ante format (where the big blind antes for the table) was instituted back in August of last year, for a $2,500 No Limit Hold'em event, that originally catered to the larger buy-in players.  The reception from the players was so overwhelming, that the format would be used for other tournaments, ranging from $175 to $1,100.

This afternoon's event is the first time we are seeing the $560 prize point for a single-ante tournament, so it will be interesting to see what the numbers grow to.  There will be at least $50,000 in the prize pool, as that is the event's posted number, but it would not come as a surprise if it grows higher.  The tournament is structured with starting stacks of 75,000 units, and levels that last (30) minutes over the course of the day.  Registration is "extended" through Level 10, meaning that players wanting to join the action have until 4:30pm to enter.

Updates will be posted throughout the day, including real-time results, once the tournament reaches the money.

Monday, March 19th: Single-Ante Returns In A Big Way, As The Battles At The Beach Rolls On

ICYMI: Sunday's action started at 11:00am, with Event #8 of the 2018 Battles At The Beach ($80 No Limit Hold'em $10,000 GTD).  The posted guarantee was surpassed long before registration was over, with the final number closing at $12,300.  A total of (26) players would reach the money, with the tournament ended in a final table chop (ten-ways).  Some notables to cash short of the deal were Blaine McRae (24th place), Eric Mutschler (17th place), and John Miller (12th place).  Jamar Brown would head the chop, receiving $1,484 for first place, along with the coveted trophy.  The details of the deal are listed below:
  1. Lamar Brown (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $1,484
  2. Brina Haines (Southwest Ranches, FL) $1,296

  4. Paul Mabel (Coral Springs, FL) $1,049

  7. Marc Freund (Plantation, FL) $766
  8. Jesse Hatfield (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $702
  9. Andrew Daire (Boca Raton, FL) $629
  10. Mark Bernstein (Hollywood, FL) $605
The evening time slot hosted Event #9, which was a $130 No Limit Hold'em "Turbo Bounty" ($10,000 GTD).  This particular tournament has found a "home" on Sunday night's, so it's no surprise that the prize pool grew to $13,000 (including bounties).  Once the payouts were posted, player learned that (15) spots would reach the money, as well as first place scheduled to walk away with $2,769.  Those number would eventually be altered, as the tournament finished up in a five-way deal, with Jason Marchman (Tamarac, FL) taking home the title ($1,611).  It should also be noted that John Miller (New York, NY) managed to cash in his second event of the day, as bowing out short of the final table in Event #8.  The full listing of finish table payouts are listed below:
  1. Jason Marchman (Tamarac, FL) $1,611
  2. Matthew Chisolm (Charlotte, NC) $1,433
  3. John Miller (New York, NY) $1,401
  4. Parlia Fnu (Boca Raton, FL) $1,354

  7. Steven Zukowski (Coral Springs, FL) $357
  8. Brandon Markland (Boynton Beach, FL) $314

  10. Brian Kain (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $244
Tournaments: The second of four single-ante tournaments kicks off Monday's action, with the $560 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante ($50,000 GTD) beginning at 11:00am.  The tournament is structured with starting stacks of 75,000 units, and levels that last (30) minutes over the course of the event.  Registration is open through Level 10, with the window to enter open until just after 4:20pm.  There are already (12) players guaranteed to be in the event, having won their seat from the "chip lead bonus" in Event #1.  We have seen a lot of different price points for these single-ante events, but this is the first time for the $560 buy-in, so it will be very interesting to see how the tournament plays out.

Those players that are looking for a more "accessible" buy-in, can circle the 6:00pm time slot, as Event #11 is a $100 No Limit Hold'em event with a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool.  The tournament is structured with starting stacks of 14,000 units, and levels that last (20) minutes.  Registration is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows), with the period to enter over at approximately 8:50pm.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-12:00am (midnight), with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible (Isle Open events not eligible for high hand) each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.  From 12:00am-9:00am, players are eligible for $100 high hands every hour.

It should also be noted that started back on November 1st, players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand!!!  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
