  2. Daphne Addison (Pompano Beach, FL) $14,351
  3. Michael Tait (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) $13,065

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Hillock Eliminates Eric Polirer In 5th Place ($5,030), Moves Into Chip Lead

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 4

With the stack sizes what they were, it was going to be very difficult for Eric Polirer to get away from the spot he was in just now.  Eric and Joshua Hillock got it all-in moments ago, with Joshua in a very dominating position:

Hillock: A♣ K♠
Polirer: A♠ Q♣

Runout: J J♠ 3♠ 8♣ 6

The pot would put Hillock into the chips lead, as he now holds just 20,000 more than Michael Tait.  The clock was going to be paused for discussion of a deal, but things we quickly shut down, and the cards we back in the air.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Updated Chip Counts As Level Transitions

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 5

Play just entered Level 29, with the blinds going up to 40,000/80,000/10,000.  Players are in the "shallow end" now, as the largest stack (which belongs to Michael Tait) only has (32) big blinds.
  1. Brian Haines - 1,100,000 (13bb)
  2. Daphne Addison - 1,400,000 (17bb)
  3. Eric Polirer - 1,050,000 (13bb)
  4. Joshua Hillock - 1,250,000 (15bb)
  5. Michael Tait - 2,700,000 (33bb)

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): After Failed Bluff, John Nguyen Out In 6th Place ($4,165)

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 5

John Nguyen went from short stack at the final table... to second in chips...to out in sixth place ($4,165), all in the matter of ninety-minutes.

John Nguyen's final hand was really a formality (as he was all-in for six big blinds), with the hand prior the reason behind his exit.  After Joshua Hillock raised, and Brian Haines called on the button, John Nguyen came along from the big blind.  The three players would check the 2♣ 6 3 flop, and check-through once again on the turn, after the 7♠ hit the felt.  Following the 7♣ on the river, Nguyen cut out a bet of 275,000, a pushed it across his cards.  Hillock folded after a moment, with Haines going deep in the tank...thinking for close to two full minutes.  If he made the call and was wrong, Brian would be left with just seven big blinds.  He did go with his read, making the call with K♠ Q, which just nipped the K♣ J of Nguyen.

John would then shove blind v. blind the next hand, with Eric Polirer eliminated him from the tournament in sixth place ($4,165).

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): One Thing Stays Constant, Michael Tait Still Atop The Counts

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 6

Level 27 has come and gone, with not too much action to speak of.  Daphne Addison did make a big call against John Nguyen, as the two reached a river of a board that read A♣ K 5 Q♠ J♠.  After calling a bet on the turn, Addison was faced with a 275,000 bet on the river from Nguyen, which was more than seventy percent of Daphne's stack.  Addison ended up putting the chips in for a call, and watched as Nguyen tabled 5♠ 7♠.  Addison quickly showed his A♠ 3♠, making a pretty big call on a board with a texture like it had.  That would get Addison out of immediate danger, but he enters Level 28 with just over twenty bigs:
  1. Brian Haines - 710,000 (11bb)
  2. Daphne Addison - 1,350,000 (22bb)
  3. John Nguyen - 850,000 (12bb)
  4. Eric Polirer - 1,050,000 (17bb)
  5. Joshua Hillock - 1,200,000 (20bb)
  6. Michael Tait - 2,400,000 (40bb)

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Final Table On Break, Updated Six-Handed Chip Counts

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 6

Players are currently on break, and will be returning to Level 27, with new blinds of 25,000/50,000/5,000 (1,223,000 chip average).  The updated final table chip counts are listed below:
  1. Brian Haines - 900,000 (18bb)
  2. Daphne Addison - 760,000 (15bb)
  3. John Nguyen - 1,450,000 (29bb)
  4. Eric Polirer - 1,100,000 (22bb)
  5. Joshua Hillock - 840,000 (20bb)
  6. Michael Tait - 2,200,000 (44bb)

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Justin Harvell Runs Into Nguyen Pocket Aces, Out In 7th Place ($3,500)

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 26 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 6

Justin Harvell (Nashville, TN) lost almost half of his stack, just one level into the final table, eventually running into the pocket aces of John Nguyen.

On the money bubble, it looked like this tournament was going to be all about Justin Harvell and Matthew Zarcadoolas.  Matthew ended up losing close to half his stack on the bubble, but Justin continued to trend in the right direction.  At the final table, Harvell would lose a good portion of his stack, when he doubled up Brian Haines.  About ten minutes later, he would shove over an open from John Nguyen, who made the call to put him at risk:

Nguyen: A♠ A♣
Harvell: A K♠

Runout: 7 3 2♣ 5♣ 5♠

Justin was able to gain some chop outs on the turn, but would be eliminated in seventh place, once the board paired.  This result was Justin's fourth final table of the year, bringing his 2018 earnings over $100,000.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Charlemagne Benjamin Shoves Short, And Exits In 8th Place ($2,925)

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 26 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 6

Charlemagne Benjamin (Miami Gardens, FL) ended up shoving just two hands after McCaffrey's exit, and would be called by Brian Haines:

Benjamin: 9 4♣
Haines: Q J♣

Runout: A♣ 10♥ 5♦ 7♠ A♠

With Benjamin's stack size, it was an easy call for Haines, whose queen-high ended up good for the win.  Charlemagne, who claims that he runs terrible at the Isle Poker Room, earns his first final table score at the property since July of last year.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Michael Tait Races Well, Eliminates James McCaffrey In 9th Place ($2,380)

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 26 (Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 8

After John Nguyen doubled up, and Max Young was eliminated, James McCaffrey (Sunrise, FL) would be the final table short stack.  He'd get his remaining fifteen big blinds in against Michael Tait, racing for his tournament life:

Tait: A♠ K
McCaffrey: 9♠ 9♣

Runout: K♠ K♣ 10♠ J♣ 4♠

White Tait mashed the flop, James still had outs to win the hand, and gained four more on the turn.  The river was a swing and a miss though, and McCaffrey would become the second player to exit the final table, earning $2,380 for ninth place.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Eric Polirer Eliminates Max Young In 10th Place ($2,010)

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 25 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 9

Max Young (Seaside, OR) made an ill-timed raise early at the final table, and ended up having to call off the shove of John Nguyen, eventually losing close to half of his stack.

Max Young was one of the shorter stacked players to enter the final table, and after doubling up John Nguyen, he'd be left with less than ten big blinds.  When action folded to Young in late position, he'd shove for 240,000, with Eric Polirer calling from the button:

Young: K 10♣
Polirer: A♠ 10♠

Runout: 8 6 3♣ A 7♠

Young went into the hand dominated by Polirer, and would end up drawing dead after the ace on the turn.  Young becomes the first to depart the Event #16 final table, collecting $2,010 for his efforts.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Updated Final Table Chip Counts

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 25 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 10

The final table action should start off pretty fast, considering the fact that six players currently hold less than twenty big blinds:
  1. Charlemagne Benjamin - 500,000
  2. Brian Haines - 530,000
  3. Daphne Addison - 820,000
  4. James McCaffrey - 365,000
  5. Max Young - 495,000
  6. John Nguyen - 175,000
  7. Eric Polirer - 515,000
  8. Joshua Hillock - 1,050,000
  9. Justin Harvell - 1,100,000
  10. Michael Tait - 1,875,000

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Scott Zakheim Out In 11th Place ($2,010), Event #16 Reaches Final Table

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 24 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 10

Joshua Hillock sent the field into the money, and was basically the one to help take the field to the final table.  After players folded around to the blinds at Table 1, Scott Zakheim completed the small blind, with Joshua Hillock shoving all-in (both held very similar stacks).  Zakheim would make the call, and lose a race with A♣ J, against the 4♠ 4♣ of Hillock.  Left with only one big blind, Scott was eliminated the very next hand, leaving the remaining ten players to receive their final table seating assignments.  The lineup is listed below, with updated chip counts to follow:
  1. Charlemagne Benjamin
  2. Brian Haines
  3. Daphne Addison
  4. James McCaffrey
  5. Max Young
  6. John Nguyen
  7. Eric Polirer
  8. Joshua Hillock

Level 24 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 12

Michael Tait (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is the overwhelming chip leader at the moment, sitting as the only player above one million chips.

The action has been fast and furious since returning from the last break, but nothing like what we just saw at Table 1.  The hand was approached with three-players all-in, and the hands exposed on the table:

Michael Tait: A♠ A♣
Feguener Gay: K K♠
Eduardo Christ: K Q

The board would run out clean for Tait, who had close to 700,000 to start the hand.  Eduardo Christ was one of the shorter stacks remaining in the field, but Feguener Gay started the hand with close to 500,000.  With all of the chips being pushed the way of Michael Tait, he would become the first player to eclipse the 1,000,000 chip mark.

Michael Tait - 1,450,000 (60bb)

Michael Tait (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) had nothing to sweat after making a set on the turn, and ended up making quads for the full triple-up.

At Table 3, Max Young opened from early position, with a short-stacked Michael Tait making the call (on the button), along with Ben Robinson (from the big blind).  The dealer would fan out a flop of J 7 6♣, with Robinson immediately open-shoving for 266,000.  Young asked for an exact count, and then verbalized a call, with Tait also calling (for less):

Robinson: 3♣ 7♣
Young: Q♠ J♣
Tait: A♠ A♣

Turn: A
River: A

Robinson, who led the field just over an hour ago, would be eliminated in 25th place ($815).  Michael Tait ended up more than tripling up to 300,000, while Max Young won a side pot to chip up to 510,000.

Level 21 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 33

Joshua Hillock (Orlando, FL) has had an up-and-down Day 2, but is current trending in the right direction, helping the field reach the money (with the elimination of Marc Culberson).
The money bubble took a surprisingly long time, but after more than (20) hands, the Event #16 field is now in the money.  On the final hand of the bubble, action at Table 2 folded around to the blinds, with Marc Culberson in the small, and Joshua Hillock in the big.  Culberson would shove for just over ten big blinds, with Hillock quickly making the call:

Culberson: K♣ Q
Hillock: 10 10

Runout: 7♠ 7♣ 3 A♠ 5

The race would end up going the way of Hillock, sending Culberson home empty handed, as the Event #16 bubble.  Everyone remaining is now guaranteed at least $715, but all eyes are on the $23,805 up top.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Feguener Gay Brings The Field Two Spots Closer To The Money

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 20 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 35

Feguener Gay (West Palm Beach, FL) is coming off a deep run in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event, where he finished in 30th place (for $3,144).

Feguener Gay (West Palm Beach, FL) just eliminated two players, meaning that we are less than a handful of eliminations away from the money bubble.  Feguener held K K against two shorter-stacked opponents, one holding K♠ 10, and the other 7♦ 7♣.  The board would run out 10♠ 5 3 4♠ J, and Gay would pick up both stacks, increasing his count to over 350,000.

With a few more eliminations while this post was being published, the field is now just two spots from the money.  After the next bustout, the tournament clock will be paused, and play will enter hand-for-hand.  Once the money bubble does burst, we will be posting official results at each pay jump.

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Updated Chip Counts As Money Bubble Looms Large

2018 Battles At The Beach

Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 43

Benjamin Robinson (Parkland, FL) has been running hot this afternoon, as one of his table mates needled him during break, about the amount of times he's been dealt premium hands since start of Day 2.

Players returned moments ago from their first break of the day, with the landscape of the leaderboard changing dramatically, over the first three levels of the day.  Listed below, are updated chip counts from the field, tallied just after the first hand was dealt in Level 19:

Benjamin Robinson - 570,000 (71bb)
Matthew Zarcadoolas - 550,000 (68bb)
Eric Polirer - 425,000 (53bb)
Justin Harvell - 420,000 (52bb)
Feguener Gay - 365,000 (45bb)
Max Young - 320,000 (40bb)
Brian Haines - 250,000 (31bb)
Joshua Hillock - 245,000 (30bb)

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Harvell And Zarcadoolas Chop Donald Williams Down To Dust

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 18 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/500)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 44

Matthew Zarcadoolas (left) and Justin Harvell (right) both turned the nut-straight, with Matthew free-rolling for a pot that would have allowed him to cruise to the final table.

On one of the final hands of Level 17, Charlemagne Benjamin walked over to the media table, and drew attention to a massive pot playing out at Table 1.  The hand involved three of the top ten stacks in the field (Justin Harvell, Matthew Zarcadoolas, and Donald Williams).  The action was on the turn, with a board that read 10♣ 9 5♣ 6, and heaps of chips in the middle.  Zarcadoolas had a bet of 73,500 in front of him, with Justin Harvell having just went all-in for 216,000.  Donald Williams was in the tank, and eventually ended up announcing a call.  Matthew Zarcadoolas also verbalized a call, and even though Williams still had some chips behind, the three hands were tabled:

Williams: J♣ J
Zarcadoolas: 7 8
Harvell: 7♣ 8♠

River: 8

Once Williams made the call, he would quickly learn that his hand was drawing dead against both opponents, as each of them turned the ten-high straight.  Zarcadoolas was free-rolling for the over 600,000 chip pot, holding a flush draw.  The river brought a red card, but it wasn't the suit Matthew was looking for.  Regardless, the two players would chop up Donald Williams stack, each ending up just under 400,000 total (after the pot wa split and shipped their way).

Justin Harvell - 398,000 (66bb)
Matthew Zarcadoolas - 390,000 (65bb)
Donald Williams - 14,000 (2bb)

Brian Haines (Southwest Ranches, FL) could be in line for a career highlighting score, with his largest cash to this point sitting at $3,341.

Brian Haines (Southwest Ranches, FL) had a sweat for the chip lead bonus (after Flight 1A), but was surpassed after the Flight 1C bagging process.  Even though he didn't get the free seat to Event #18, Haines did return to Day 2 as one of the top stacks, and just bettered his position.  After Alexander Thomas shoved from early position (for just over 14 big blinds), action folded around to Haines, who was on the cutoff.  He would iso-shove for close to 180,000, causing the button and blinds to release their hands.  "You're ahead," Thomas said to Haines, even before the cards were tabled:

Thomas: K J♣
Haines: A♣ K♠

Runout: K Q 3 5 2

Both players flopped a pair of kings, with Thomas unable to improve on the turn or river.  Brian came into the day as the sixth largest stack in the field, and creeps into the top five after winning that pot.

Brian Haines - 270,000 (54bb)

BATB Event #16 (Day 2): Daren Stabinski Wastes No Time At New Table, Doubles-Up Robert Chusid

2018 Battles At The Beach
Event #16 | $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)

Level 17 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/500)
Total Entries: 367
Players Remaining: 59

Robert Chusid (Miami, FL) has one cash this series, finishing thirteenth in Event #13 ($175 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante), which saw a return of $600.

After starting at Table 6, Daren Stabinski was moved to Table 4 (as the original table broke), and quickly found himself involved in a sizable pot.  Stabinski and Robert Chusid got it all-in on a 10♣ 9♠ 3♠ flop, for a pot worth over 175,000.  Chusid had flopped middle set with 9 9♣, but needed to fade the open ended straight draw of Stabinski (7♠ 8♣).  The turn (4) and river (2) were no help to Stanbinski, who would lose close to half of his stack in the hand.  Chusid has now tripled his Day 2 starting stack, after returning to action with 65,500.

Robert Chusid - 183,000 (36bb)
Daren Stabinski - 85,000 (17bb)
