FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Players Agree To Four-Way Deal, David Albertson Declared Event #1 Winner ($19,311)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 33 (Blinds 200,000/300,000/300,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 4

The four players to chop Event #1 of the Florida State Poker Championship (from left to right): David Albertson, David Coughlin, Scott Hecker, and Steve Legault

After the elimination of Adel Jo, the remaining four players began discussing a deal.  While the idea of an even chop was immediately thrown out, players agreed to look at the ICM numbers.  Once they heard their numbers, there was a little negotiation, and a deal was agreed.  The official numbers are posted below:

  1. David Albertson (Coral Springs, FL) $19,311
  2. Steve Legault (Naples, FL) $18,453
  3. David Coughlin (Lighthouse Point, FL) $17,245
  4. Scott Hecker (Boca Raton, FL) $13,615
2018 Florida State Poker Championship Event #1 Winner David Albertson (Coral Springs, FL)

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Adel Jo Puts Up An Incredible Fight, Bows Out In 5th Place ($7,010)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 33 (Blinds 200,000/300,000/300,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 4

Adel Jo (Miami, FL) did any incredible job to make it as far as he did, but of course got some help from the cards (when he was super short).

Adel Jo (Miami, FL) was about to become the story of the tournament, coming back from less than one big blind.  While he was able to ladder up two spots after finding himself in that position, he just ran Q♠ Q♣ into the A A♠ of Steven Legault.  The pocket queens found no help through the runout, and Adel would be eliminated in 5th place ($7,010).

The remaining players are now discussing a potential ICM chop.

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Bevins Out In Dramatic Fashion, Loses To A Straight Flush ($5,585)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 32 (Blinds 100,000/200,000/200,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 5

Jeremy Bevins (Wellington, FL) made the ace-high flush on a non-paired board, but had zero chance of walking away a winner.

We heard an all-in and a call at the final table, and when we turned around, Jeremy Blevins would be at risk on the 9♣ 8♣ 7♣ flop (holding A♣ 4).  Normally he would be drawing super live against any hand, but this time...he was drawing dead.  David Albertson had flopped a straight flush with 10♣ 6♣, and ended up knocking out Bevins...and getting the high hand on the board (for the half-hour period).

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Deja Vu For Coughlin, But This Time He Knocks Out Corey Brysman In 7th Place ($4,625)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 32 (Blinds 100,000/200,000/200,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 6

Corey Brysman (Boca Raton, FL) battled it out in these later stages of Day 2, but was unable to hold when he needed to most.

Corey Brysman (Boca Raton, FL) would shove for 875,000 in early position, with both Steven Legault (button) and David Coughlin (big blind) making the call.  They would check the K♠ J 9♠ flop, with Coughlin then betting 1,000,000 after the 4 hit the turn.  Legault released his hand, and David would turn over 99♣.  Once again he ran into a flopped straight (like earlier against Legault), as Brysman tabled Q10♠.  This time though, the board would pair on the river, and Brysman would be eliminated.

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Updated Chip Counts At Break

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD

Players are on break, and will be returning to Level 32, and new blinds of 100,000/200,000/200,000 (3,500,000 chip average).  Updated final table chip counts are posted below:

  2. Jeremy Bevins - 415,000 (2bb)
  3. David Albertson - 5,900,000 (29bb)
  4. Corey Brysman - 1,000,000 (5bb)
  5. Scott Hecker - 1,400,000 (7bb)
  6. Steve Legault - 8,000,000 (40bb)
  7. David Coughlin - 5,800,000 (29bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Jake Embres Eliminated By Steve Legault In 8th Place ($3,675)

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 31 (Blinds 80,000/160,000/160,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 7

Jake Embres (Coral Springs, FL) would be the first player eliminated from the Event #1 final table, bricking out against Steve Legault's top pair.

Just fifteen minutes ago, Adel Jo was left with less than a big blind, but was able to spin that back up to 800,000.  Those that thought they were getting a sure pay-jump were now thinking about somehow doubling as well, which is where Jake Embres found himself.  After two players limped for 160,000, Embres completed the small blind, and Coughlin would check the big blind.

The dealer place down a flop of K 3 2, with Embres immediately announcing himself all-in, for just over 1,000,000.  Players folded to Steve Legault on the button, who would toss in a chip for a call:

Embres: 3 6(pair and flush draw)
Legault: K 10♠ (top pair)

Turn: Q♠
River: 4♠

Embres missed his outs to a win, and would be the first player eliminated from the Event #1 final table, collecting $3,675 for his efforts.

FSPC Event #1 (Day 2): Coughlin And Legault Battle For The Tournament's Largest Pot

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 30 (Blinds 60,000/120,000/120,000)
Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 8

Steven Legault was begging for his hand to hold when the cards went on their backs, with the dealer obliging on the turn and river.

When we heard an all-in and a call at the final table, nobody would have guessed that it would be between the two largest stacks.  On a flop of Q10♠ 9♠, Steve Legault and David Coughlin got it in, for a pot worth over 7,000,000.  Legault held K J♠, having flopped the straight, up against the Q♣ 9♣ of Coughlin (top and bottom pair).  The turn and river would not bring Coughlin the full house, and Legault would vault into the final table chip lead.

Steve Legault - 7,400,000
David Coughlin - 3,800,000

Total Entries: 1,227
Players Remaining: 8

Adam Berman would be eliminated in 11th place at Table 3, while the hand of the tournament was unfolding at Table 1.  After Christian Sylvester shoved for 600,000, Joaquin Sosa re-shoved for just over 1,000,000.  Action was then on David Coughlin, who was the tournament's overwhelming chip leader, having just knocked out Francis Margaglione in a massive pot (over 2,000,000).  Coughlin tanked for just a few moments, and then verbalized a call, putting both players at risk:

Coughlin: A♠ K♠
Sylvester: 4♠ 4♣
Sosa: A♣ 6♣

Runout: 10♠ 7♣ 7♠ 9♠ 10♣

Players were calling for cards left and right, as a crowd began to build around the table.  Coughlin flopped the spade draw, which he would hit on the turn.  Sylvester would earn 10th place money ($2,250), while Sosa would get 9th place ($2,760), because of the larger stack to start the hand.

Scott Hecker (Boca Raton, FL) has been down this road before, reaching the final table of the $175 No Limit Hold'em multi that ran just over a month ago (June).

We did not see the action leading up to the over 1,000,000 pot between Scott Hecker and Jake Embres, but the hands and board were left face up for us to see.  In a blind v. blind confrontation, Hecker flopped a flush with 2 6on a Q 7 8 flop.  Jake's 8♣ 3♣ would make trips after the 8♠ on the turn, and the money would get in, with Embres unable to make a full house on the river.

Hecker would double up to 1,100,000 in the hand, while Embres dropped down to ten big blinds.  Jake did double up the very next hand, so he was able to recoup some of the lost chips.

Scott Hecker - 1,100,000 (27bb)
Jake Embres - 600,000 (15bb)

Preecha Taepakdee (Boynton Beach, FL) found himself in a very envious position, holding set over set, in a pot worth over 600,000 chips.

As we were collecting results from the tournament podium, we walked by a hand unfolding, between Nagui Yassa and Preecha Taepakdee.  The two players were on the turn of a board that read 4 7 8 9, with Nagui announcing that he was all-in (for close to 300,000).  Taepakdee took little time before verbalizing a call, and turning over 8♠ 8♣.  Yassa reacted in disgust, as he learned that his 7♠ 7♣ was drawing to one out on the river.  The 5 completed the board, and Yassa would be eliminated in 79th place ($415).  Taepakdee would scoop in the massive pot, bringing him up to 800,000, and making him the current Day 2 chip leader.
