Isle Open Championship (Day 2): Sam Ganzfried Eliminated In 11th Place ($9,435), Event #21 Final Table Set

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)
Total Event #21 Entries: 404
Event #21 Players Remaining: 10

Michael Aron opened the action at Table 1 with a raise, followed by Sam Ganzfried (Pittsburgh, PA) three-bet shoving for 290,000.  William Valladares just flatted out of the small blind, with Aron releasing his hand when action returned to him.  Sam would be ahead with A♠ K, but would fall to William's A 10♣, after a runout that brought two tens (making Valladares trips).  Ganzfried earns $9,435 for his eleventh place finish, falling just short of the Isle Open Championship final table.

Posted below are the official Day 3 chip counts, with action picking up at 12:00pm:

  1. Edwark Novak - 747,000

Isle Open Championship (Day 2): Gambino Eliminated In 12th Place ($9,435), Final Table Bubble

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD

Total Event #21 Entries: 404
Event #21 Players Remaining: 11

AJ Gambino (Royersford, PA) almost got the check-shove through, but missed his draw once he was called by Scott Levitt.

AJ Gambino check-shoved a 10♠ 9♣ 2♣ flop against Scott Levitt, with the latter needing to call close to 300,000 more if he wanted to continue.  Levitt immediately looked frustrated with the spot he was in, but ended up reluctantly making the call.  His frustration turned to surprise when Gambino turned over 7♠ 8♠, seeing that his J♠ 10 was ahead.  The turn and river would bring running fours, sending Gambino to the podium for payouts.

The field is now on the final table bubble, with action scheduled to end if that point is reached before the end of Level 22.

Paul Balzano (Sunrise, FL) had only eyes on the diamond, not noticing the fact that the board paired as well on the river, making him a winning full house.

We approached Table 2 just as Paul Balzano announced himself all-in, shoving over a bet on the turn from Nassin Vaknin.  With the board reading A K J♣ 6♣, and over 200,000 in the pot, Nassin would ask for an exact count.  Balzano ended up answering Nassin himself, letting him know it would be about 450,000 more (over the 150,000 turn bet).  Vaknin made the call, and watched as Paul tabled K♠ K, to which he rolled over Q 9.  The river brought the 6, and for a moment Paul thought he lost the hand, but the table made him aware of the full house he made.

Paul Balzano - 1,500,000 (93bb)
Nassin Vaknin - 1,275,000 (79bb)

Nassin Vaknin (Davie, FL) is up over 2,000,000, running beyond pure since returning from dinner.

Nassin Vaknin (Davie, FL) has been one of the most active players since returning from dinner, and he'd continue the trend moments ago, opening from early position to 20,000 (this was one of the final hands of Level 19).  Action would fold around to Daren Stabinski in the big blind, and he would respond with a three-bet to 82,000.  Vaknin made the call, and the two would see a flop of J♠ 6 7.  Daren led for 95,000 (with just over 400,000 behind), and was immediately met with an all-in from Vaknin, to which he called.

Stabinski watched as Vaknin tabled 4 5, holding a straight flush draw against his A♣ A♠.  Nassin found the flush right on the turn (J), and after fading the four outs a Stabinski, he would become the tournament's chip leader (2,100,000).

Nassin Vaknin - 2,000,000
Daren Stabinski - Eliminated in 20th Place ($5,399)

The field would lose Joseph Couden just moments later, and proceeded to go through their second redraw of the day, with eighteen players now remaining.

Carey Pickus (Atherton, CA), just as she watches Nissim Vaknin spike a king on the flop to eliminate her.

Carey Pickus (Atherton, CA) and Nancy Birnbaum were the last two ladies in the field, but they were going in different directions.  While Nancy was hovering around the chip average (295,000), Carey was doing her best to double-up, as she was grinding a sub-ten big blind stack for the past few hours.  With action folding around to Pickus in the small blind, she would shove for just over ten big blinds, with Nissim Vaknin calling her from the big blind.

"You want the chips, well here's your chance," Pickus said, just before turning over her Q♠ Q.  While she was well ahead of Nissim's K 10, her reaction when seeing his hand, was one of displeasure. Carey stood up just as the K♣ 3 8 flop fell, shaking her head as the runout brought her no help.  Pickus would earn $2,749 for her 42nd place finish, and has already jumped in the Event #22 field ($570 No Limit Hold'em).

William Valladares (Costa Rica) is a relative unknown, but is quickly making a name for himself, as the chip leader of the Isle Open Championship.

Day 2 players of Event #21 are heading on their second break of the day, and will be returning to Level 17, with new blinds of 3,000/6,000/1,000 (263,000 chip average).  William Valladares (Costa Rica) leads the field, sitting with over 740,000, after coming into the day with 90,200.  Now much is known about William, with only four results on is Hendon Mob resume, none of which came in the United States (Panama City, London, Punta Cana, Playa Conchal).  Listed below are some updated counts, tallied just before break:

Everyone in the Event #21 field was a fan of Frank Lerczak (Buffalo, NY), except for Walter Strakowski.

The money bubble lasted seven hands, and ended in dramatic fashion...for Walter Strakowski (West Palm Beach, FL).  Walter was all-in for less than five big blinds, having flopped a straight with 5♠ 7, on a 6♣ 8 9♠ board.  Unfortunately, the runout wasn't as kind as the flop, with Frank Lerczak making the nut straight with Q♠ 10♠, after a J♣ on the turn.  The remaining (51) players in the field are guaranteed at least $2,422, but all eyes are on the $112,075 first place prize.  As players get eliminated, the official results will be posted by pay jump.

Michael Newman's (Nanuet, NY) dream run continues, after he doubles through Victor Figueroa, chipping up above the average.

Table 1 was approached just as Michael Newman's stack was being broken down by the dealer, having just doubled up through Victor Figueroa.  The chips got in on the turn of a board reading A 2 J 5, with Newman holding A 4, against the J 5 of Figueroa.  The river didn't not bring a full house for Victor, who's two pair fell to Newman's flush.

Newman now sits with just over 180,000, and is looking to make a similar "dream run" to Noel Atherley, who bought into Event #15 on Day 2 (only to go on and win the tournament).
