Al Gomez (Miami, FL) adds to his tournament resume, which was already over $200,000 before this first place finish.  Gomez used a critical hand against Miriam Macwilliams to grab the chip lead, and eventually earn the largest share of a six-way deal.

The ICM negotiations failed after the elimination of Bret Grebow, but once players witnessed how quickly things can change (Paulo Castro's elimination), the six players remaining agreed on the  numbers pretty quickly.  Listed below are the official numbers for the chop that ended Event #18 of the 2017 Isle Classic:

Bret Grebow (Delray Beach, FL) picked up pocket kings when two players were all-in ahead of him, and after holding up, they helped him eclipse the million chip mark.

Table 10 was approached just as there were three all-ins in a row, the first for 400,000, the second for less, and the third for close to 800,000 (Bret Grebow).  After Grebow's shove, players behind quickly released their hands, and the three hands would be tabled.  It was Grebow's K K♠ against 10♠ 10♣ and 9♠ 9♣, with the runout coming A♣ J 5 4 A.  Bret became another member of the millionaires club after the hand held up, and joins Gilbert Betancourt...along with:

Gilbert Betancourt (Miami Beach, FL) lost the chip lead for just a brief moment, but took back hold of the top spot in a big way, now sitting with a stack over 1,000,000.

Gilbert Betancourt (Miami, FL) is once again atop the leaderboard, as he becomes the first player in the field to eclipse the 1,000,000 chip mark.  It should be mentioned once again, that Gilbert only has two recorded lifetime cashes, the largest of which was for $1,605.  Betancourt would a twelfth place (or better) finish to eclipse that career mark, which looks like a very attainable goal.  It's not often that we see players that return as Day 2 chip leaders stay atop the leaderboard, especially those that lack the experience in that particular spot.

Pedro Palacio (Coconut Creek, FL) has been in this spot numerous times, and knows what to do with a chip leading stack in a multi-flight event such  as this.

The pace of players heading to collect payouts has hindered the opportunity to take a lap around the field.  The landscape at the top of the leaderboard has changed slightly, with Pedro Palacio jumping to the top.

Pedro Palacio - 770,000
Arlex Vargas - 720,000

Level 20 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Event #18 Entries: 919
Event #18 Players Remaining: 86

Sandy Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) had a lot to sweat during the runout, but ended up knocking out Lester Trimino on the bubble hand.

On the first hand of hand-for-hand play, Lester Trimino (Miami, FL) shoved from early position, for just over 65,000.  Sandy Sanchez was next to act, and after getting the exact count, he dropped a stack a chips for a call.  The rest of the table folded behind, and Trimino would be at risk, holding K Q against Sandy's 8 8.  The dealer then ran out a board of 10♣ 9 4 5 2, giving Lester a ton of equity, but nothing to complete his hand.

Truman stood at the table after his elimination, waiting to see if anyone else would be eliminated on the same hand (meaning he'd split the 87th pay spot).  It just so happened that Oneil McCalla would be knocked out as well, meaning the two would walk away with $153 and $152 respectively.  Everyone left in the field is now guaranteed at least $305.

Isle Classic Event #18 (Day 2): Payout Reminder As Money Bubble Looms

Total Event #18 Entries: 919

As expected, the action is moving at a swift pace, with the field now just over ten eliminations away from the money.  Once the field is in the money, the official results will be posted by pay jump, allowing followers to know who's in and who's out.  Listed below is a payout reminder, with those that are left focusing on those top three spots, all worth over five-figures.

Isle Classic Event #18 (Day 2): Lacelles Peart Gets A Little Help From His Rail

2017 Isle Classic | Event #18
$175 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD)
Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Event #18 Entries: 919
Event #18 Players Remaining: 109

Lascelles Peart (Coconut Creek, FL) has a small rail that's rooting him on, and they were very vocal after he spiked a two-outer on the river.

As the field speeds towards the money, many of the shorter stacked players are doing their best to find a spot to double up.  Moments after Frank DiMaria won a big flip to double up, Lascelles Peart was all-in for 29,000 with 4 4♠, and at risk against the K K♠ of Olaf Gornisiewicz (Pompano Beach, FL).  Even though it was Peart at risk, the pot was just as critical for Olaf, as he would be left with only 30,000 if he lost the hand.

The dealer began the runout with a flop of 2♠ 3♠ 6♣, and Peart's rail rooting for a five.  After the turn paired the board with the 3♣, they changed interests, and started screaming for a four.  "Foouuurrrr," they yelled in celebration, just as they saw the dealer place the 4 on the river.  Olaf jumped from his seat in disgust, taking a lap around the near tables to calm his nerves.

Lascelles Peart - 58,000 (7bb)
Olaf Gornisiewicz - 30,000 (3bb)

Isle Classic Event #18 (Day 2): Betancourt Picking Up Where He Left Off

Level 18 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/500)
Total Event #18 Entries: 919
Event #18 Players Remaining: 118

Gilbert Betancourt (Miami Beach, FL) has only two recorded results on his Hendon Mob resume, but his play last night (along with the first level of Day 2) gives no reason to believe that lack of experience will hold him back.

Day 2 of Event #18 is already through one level, with fourteen players eliminated from the field over the course of the first (25) minutes.  Swift movement will likely be the trend for the day, as the level length does force the action, with the chip average already below thirty big blinds.

One player that isn't worrying about the chip average is Gilbert Betancourt (Miami Beach, FL), the Flight 1F chip leader, and overall chip leader coming back for Day 2.  Gilbert is already off to a strong start this afternoon, knocking out a player moments ago, and adding to his already top stack (now sitting with over 600,000).  Betancourt will have to deal with some veteran tournament players at his table, including Tony Ruberto, Juan Rodriguez, and Scott Zakheim.

Sunday, December 17th: Returning For Day 2 Of Event #18, Playing For $22,790 Up Top

ICYMI: Yesterday was the final chance for players to enter Event #18 of the Isle Classic, with the last pair of opening flights on the schedule.  Flight 1E ended up attracted a total of (183) entries, which was the largest showing to that point.  From that number (24) players were able to reach the bagging process, with Julian Gallo (Miami, FL) packing up 326,000 in his Day 2 bag.  Also heading to Day 2 from Flight 1F were Maurice Hawkins (324,000), Tony Ruberto (289,000), Alfonso Perez (132,500), Noel Atherley (99,000), and Scott Zakheim (76,500).

Once Flight 1F started at 6:00pm, it was clear that it was going to be the largest flight of the six to have been played.  The $100,000 guarantee was surpassed just a few levels into the flight, and ended up closing a $124,065.  After registration closed for the flight, there were no more change upcoming for players, so any eliminations would be their last.  The bagging process began after the conclusion of Level 16, with (32) players heading to Day 2.  The group was led by Gilbert Betancourt (Miami, FL), who ended up bagging the overall Day 2 chip lead, with 514,000.  There were numerous large stacks to come out of Flight 1F, belonging to Cameron Collins (387,500), Luis Mantilla (339,500), Ellen Smith (286,000), and Al Gomez (239,000).

At total of (132) players will be returning at 12:00pm this afternoon, with all eyes on the $22,790 first place prize.  From the number listed, (87) players will reach the money, with all of the action updated via live blogged coverage (which will continue through the conclusion of the event).

Tournaments: Sunday's Isle Classic schedule sees one event resuming, while another is just beginning.  As mentioned above, players will be returning for Day 2 of Event #18 at 12:00pm, ready to play down to a winner.  There are no structural changes in the tournament, as play will return to levels that last (25) minutes in length.

While Sunday nights during the series have usually hosted the $100 No Limit Hold'em Deepstack Bounty, things are a little different this evening.  At 6:00pm, action will be getting underway for Flight 1A of Event #19, a $100 No Limit Hold'em event with a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool.  There are five flights over the next three days, with players who bag chips returning to action on Wednesday (for Day 2).  The tournament is structured with starting stacks of 15,000 units, and levels that are (20) minutes in length.  Registration is open until the end of Level 8 (and the break that follows), with opening flight play scheduled to conclude after Level 16 (or if 10% of the field is reached).

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-12:00am (midnight), with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible (Isle Open events not eligible for high hand) each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.  From 12:00am-9:00am, players are eligible for $100 high hands every hour.

It should also be noted that started back on November 1st, players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand!!!  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
