$200 NLH $100,000 GTD (Day 2): Michael Marks Eliminates Rob Johnston In 9th Place ($3,160)

$200 No Limit Hold'em

Total Entries: 1,252

Robert Johnston was flipping for his tournament life, and experienced the the ugly side of variance, as Michael Marks paired his king on the flop.

Trent Smith limped from under the gun, and after Tom Gity folded, Rob Johnston went into the tank.  He stared down Smith, concerned with his choice of action (the limp).  Eventually Johnston would announce that he was all-in (for just over 1,400,000), with action folding around to Michael Marks.  After getting an exact count, Marks would re-shove, clearing out the button and blinds:

Johnston: 9 9♠
Marks: A K♣

Runout: K 10♣ 5♣ A Q♣

Johnston, who had doubled just a few hands prior, would be racing for his tournament life.  The flop was unkind though, and Rob would be looking for a two-outer to reclaim the lead.  It wasn't meant to be for Johnston, who wished everyone good luck, before walking away from the table.

$100,000 Guaranteed
Level 32 (Blinds 80,000/160,000/20,000)
Total Entries: 1,252
Players Remaining: 9

Tony Kern (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was the shortest stack at the final table, and after busting in tenth place, would earn the largest tournament cash of his career.

After action folded around to Jamie Wiegrefe on the button, he would shove for less than ten big blinds.  Michael Marks released his small blind, and with just 400,000 behind his 160,000 big blind, Tony Kern made the call (and was at risk):

Wiegrefe: A♣ 9♣
Kern: K♣ J

Runout: A♠ 5 2♣ 3♠ J

Wirgrefe couldn't have dreamt of a better flop, with numerous cards on the turn that would leave Kern drawing dead.  The turn did bring chop outs for Anthony, but he would make an insignificant pair on the river, and would exit the final table in 10th place ($2,555).

A few levels back, Joe Schwartz (Boca Raton, FL) turned on some Grateful Dead for his listening pleasure, and since that point, it's been coming up roses.  Schwartz now leads the field with 1,500,000, and with the stacks getting shallower as each levels passes, sits in prime position to make a deep run.  Joe's largest tournament cash came back in 2012, when finished in 23rd place, during a $330 No Limit Hold'em event at the Florida State Poker Championships ($1,852).  A 15th place finish or better would give Schwartz the largest tournament cash of his career.

Julia Bindelglass (Long Beach, CA) is right behind Schwartz, sitting with over 1,400,000, after starting Day 2 with just 103,000.
