After (18) levels of play in Flight 1D of Event 10 (2017 Isle Poker Classic), eleven players survived and advanced to Sunday's Day 2.  Jay Gruden (Boca Raton, FL) is the flight's chip leader, bagging 246,500, which is sixth overall in terms  of Day 2 field to this point.  The tournament staff is now verifying the players chip counts, with the official numbers to follow shortly.

This will conclude our "live coverage" for the day, but you can check back periodically over the course of the night for updates from Flights E and F (as well as end of flight chip counts).

Gustavo Perla (Miami, FL)

Play is now entering Level 17, and while it seemed as if we were going to reach the 8% mark (stopping point), the stacks have gotten a little deeper, and none of the remaining (14) players are "super short."  Leading the way as we come down the homestretch is Gustavo Perla (Miami, FL), who comfortably sitting with 180,000.  The term "comfortably" is used lightly though, as the chip leader only sits with (30) big blinds, so anything could happen over the next (40) minutes.

Perla has only (4) lifetime recorded cashes on his resume, totaling earnings just over $4,400.  Perla's only final table finish came here at the Isle in 2015, when he finished third in a $125 No Limit Hold'em ($20,000 Guarantee) for $3,640.

Event 10 (Flight 1D): The Dramatics Of A Runout

Marcio Peixoto (Hollywood, FL)

The all-in moments ago between Marcio Peixoto (Hollywood, FL) and Moe Heider had all of the dramatics you could ask from a hand.  Heider opened to 4,200, with Jose Terrier flatting in late position.  After action folded to Peixoto in the big blind, he three-bet to 21,000, quickly followed by Heider announcing he was all-in (just over 35,000).

Terrier folded behind, and Peixoto made the call after just a few moments of thought.  The two hands were then tabled, with Peixoto holding 7♠ 7 against the 10♠ 10♣ of Heider.  Peixoto began asking the dealer for a seven, and gave a celebratory fist pump after the 6♣ 7♣ 8 flop was dropped.  It would be Heider's time to raise his hands, as the 9 on the turn gave him the lead with a straight.

Peixoto's emotions were shifted one last time though, as the dealer paired the board on the river (6), giving Marcio the winning full house.  Haider walked away dissapointed, while Marcio stacked up his new chips, giving him a top ten stack (90,000).

Glen Canelstein (Coconut Creek, FL)

Glen Canelstein (Coconut Creek, FL) has gotten a lot of the face time on the blog during this series, becoming one of the storylines of Event 2.  Glen was one of the shortest stacks in the Day 2 field at one point, and made an incredible comeback to not only cash, but finish in 35th place ($962).

Canelstein is looking to take a little bit of a different route this event, as he is one of the chip leaders in the field at the moment.  Canelstein recently iso-shoved over a short stack's all-in, and while he was in rough shape holding 4♠ 4♣ against his opponent's J♠ J, he would flop a four to take down the hand and pad his stack.  Canelstein is currently sitting with just over 80,000, which is a top five stack in the field as we reach Level 11.

The Flight 1D tournament clock tells the story, as the registration window closes

Registration is now closed for Flight 1D of Event 10 (2017 Isle Poker Classic), as the field ended with a total of (94) entries.  The $3,760 that's added to the prize pool from yesterday bring the total tournament prize pool to right under $20,000, which continues on a pace to eclipse the $50,000 guarantee on the event.

For those players that either busted this flight, or are interested in joining a future flight, there are still two more on the schedule for the day.  The cards will get in the air in just under an hour for Flight 1E (3:00pm), while the ever popular evening flight kicks off at 7:00pm (Flight 1F).

Robert Feinstein (Lake Worth, FL)
Passing by Table 1, there would be a big pot unfolding, as three players were on the river of a board reading 7 7♣ 3 J♠ Q.  After an unknown player checked his option, A. Nonymous shoved his remaining 7,200 from middle position.  Robert Feinstein (Lake Worth, FL), who was on the button, raised to 20,000.

The 20,000 raise was enough to put the third player all-in, and after a few moments of thought, he tossed his hand in the muck.  A. Nonymous would quickly turn over A K, but his flush was no good against the J♥ J of Feinstein.  Robert raked in the pot (worth close to 45,000), and now stands as the early chip leader with over 70,000.

"The last time you put something about me on the blog, you jinxed me," Feinstein said as we snapped his photo.  It's known as the "blogger's curse," and while some believe that getting featured on the blog is bad luck, others are ecstatic to be able to show the posts to their friends, family, and followers

The pace of entry for this starting flight is slightly behind that of yesterday's Flight 1A, but it's likely that we can expect the larger fields of the day to be from Flight 1E and/or Flight 1F.  Regardless of the size of the field, it's still full of recognizable names, including the likes of:

Glen Canelstein
Joseph Mancuso
Benjamin Robinson
Daniel Genachte
Gregg Weiss
Zakarya Wolgamott
Thomas Gari
Marcel Deschamps
Joe Niblett

James Hamburger (Hollywood, FL)

James Hamburger (Hollywood, FL) may not be a household name for live tournament players here in Florida, and that's just the way he likes it.  Hamburger has recorded career earnings of $42,651, and is coming off of a year in which he recorded (5) cashes (Hendon Mob).  Those cashes totaled $10,048 in earnings, which pales in comparison to his online earnings.

Before Black Friday, James was playing on numerous sites, under the handle 'downtheline.'  He was putting in some serious volume online, and the returns were large.  At one point, Hamburger had won the largest online tournament ever held (2004), and has amassed online earnings over $1,600,000.  James is a staple when it comes to these seasonal series, and is still looking for his first Isle Poker trophy to add to his many accomplishments.

Hamburger's Flight 1D start has been a good one, as he just scooped in another sizable pot to increase his early chip stack.

Flight 1D is underway, as a new group of players try to bag chip for Sunday's Day 2

Flight 1D of Event 10 already has one level in the book, as an "intimate" field starts the day, looking to join the (42) players from yesterday that bagged chips for Day 2.  Yesterday, there were a total of (399) entries over the course of three starting flights (100 re-entries), amassing a combined $15,960 towards the total tournament prize pool.

Of the (42) players to bag chips for Day 2, (15) of them bagged an above average stack, which sits a 143,000 at the moment.  Giuseppe Lunette (Coral Springs, FL) bagged the overall chip lead, bringing a healthy stack of 615,000 into Sunday.  As expected, we saw a lot of new names amongst the list of those to advance to Day 2, while well known names like Steve Ekin, Rafael Ramos, and Francois Gagne joined the group as well.

A full list of chip counts from the opening day of Event 10 will be posted shortly, as well as the first look at players in this early field.

Friday, January 13th: Flights D-F Of Event 10 Headline Friday's Schedule

The opening day of Event 10, the second headline tournament of the 2017 Isle Poker Classic, attracted a total of (399) entries.  The overall showing was a little bit of a surprise to those in the know, but a pleasant sign knowing the make-up of a multi-flight tournament.  In the industry, the first day of flights in a multi-day tournament usually sees the lowest numbers, in terms of attendance.  If you add in the fact that the next six flights are hosted on a Friday and Saturday, only bigger numbers can be expected.  With that being the case, players can expect to see the prize pool grow well over the $50,000 guarantee that is posted on this event.

Today's action begins at 11:00am, with Flight 1D offering up the first opportunity for players to join the (42) from yesterday, fortunate enough to bag chips and head to Sunday's Day 2.
