"Janaury $100,000" (Day 2): Francisco Pulido Heads Chop Of The "January $100,000" ($26,500), With Levitt Taking Runner-Up Honors ($22,739)

Francisco Pulido (Pembroke Pines, FL) earns his largest ever score, after chopping this $360 No Limit Hold'em event with Scott Levitt.

Listed below are the final numbers that the two players agreed to, with Francisco Pulido the event's "declared winner:"
  1. Francisco Pulido (Pembroke Pines, FL) $26,500
  2. Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) $22,739

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Jacobo Mugrabi's Exit In 3rd Place ($13,045), Leaves Play Heads-Up

Jacobo Mugrabi (Venezuela) was able to ladder a few spots with a pretty short stack, as he watched Richard Kirsch and Sheldon Gross bust out before him.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, as Jacobo Mugrabi was all-in just one hand after Sheldon Gross's elimination.  He was racing with 8 8♣ agains the A10♠ of Scott Levitt, but would see Scott spike a ten on the flop, and hold through the rest of the runout.  Mugrabi's elimination would leave the event heads-up, with Scott Levitt and Francisco Pulido quickly making a deal.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Sheldon Gross Eliminated In "Gross Fashion," Exits In 4th Place ($8,400)

"January $100,000"

Sheldon Gross (Hillsboro Beach, FL) looked prime to double up with bottom set, but watched his hand get counterfeited by the runout.

One would think, that with Pulido holding such a commanding chip lead, that the other three players would be very passive about getting it in.  Only two hands after Richard Kirsch's elimination, Sheldon Gross would double to 1,000,000 (through Jacobo Mugrabi).  Two hands after that, Gross would be all-in against Francisco Pulido, on a flop of 6 2 7.  Pulido held A♠ A♣, but Gross had flopped bottom set (2♠ 2♣), and was a turn and river away from closing the gap in a major way.  Unfortunately for Gross, the turn and river came out 6 6♠, counterfeiting Sheldon's full house.  Sheldon pushed his chip forward in anger, and exited the final table.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Francisco Finishes What He Started, Eliminates Richard Kirsch In 5th Place ($6,475)

"January $100,000"

Richard Kirsch (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was looking for back-to-back major tournament wins, but had to settle for a fifth place finish.
There was a hand at the beginning of the level that would basically set the tone for the rest of the tournament, as Richard Kirsch lost an over 1,500,000 chip pot to Francisco Pulido.  That pot meant that Pulido held more than half of the chips in play, and each hand would hold ICM implications for all of the short stacks.  Kirsch was left with just eight big blinds, and would call a button raise from Pulido, out of the big blind.  After the 5 5♣ 2♠ flop, Kirsch announced himself all-in (for just over 200,000), and was called by Pulido.  Kirsch's Q 8♠ was behind the A♠ 7♣ of Francisco, and when the A came on the turn, Richard would be eliminated.  This was Kirsch's second final table in the last two weeks, and third in the past month.

Anthony Ruberto (Miami, FL) was in an unenvious spot, running into a set after flopping top pair.
The balance of power has shifted greatly, as Francisco Pulido assumed the final table chip lead moments ago.  In a raised pot, Pulido and Anthony Ruberto would see a flop of Q 9♠ 2, with Francisco checking to Ruberto.  Tony placed forward a bet of 250,000, and after Francisco asked for a count, he announced that he was all-in (covering Tony).  Ruberto made the call, and watched Francisco table 9 9♣, well ahead his A♠ Q♣.  The turn would leave Ruberto drawing dead, and he would push his remaining chips towards the middle of the table.  Pulido eclipsed the 3,000,000 mark with that pot, the first player to do that this event.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Short Stacks Aren't Fairing Well, Jose Parra Out In 7th Place ($4,500)

Jose Parra (Hialeah Gardens, FL) was able to earn a few pay jumps with a super short stack, but couldn't hold while ahead against Sheldon Gross.

Just a few hands after the elimination of David White, Jose Parra (Hialeah Gardens, FL) was all-in for his final four big blinds, and called by Sheldon Gross.  Parra was ahead with A♣ 7♣ against K 10♣, and was able to survive the flop, but had to watch as Gross spiked a ten on the turn to take the lead.  There would be no ace on the river for Parra, who departed the final table in seventh place ($4,500).

"January $100,000" (Day 2): David White Eliminated By Jacobo Mugrabi In 8th Place ($3,690)

David White (Boca Raton, FL) had only five cashes lifetime, and just earned his largest ever score with his final table finish.

David White (Boca Raton, FL) and Jose Parra were the short stacks at the final table, both sitting with less than ten big blinds.  White opened shoved for just over 350,000, with action folding around to Jacobo Mugrabi, who ended up making the call.  Mugrabi was in excellent shape, holding J♠ J against the J 10 of White.  David would eventually be drawing dead by the turn, and exited the final table in eigth place, collecting $3,690.

Joshua Wasserman (Deerfield Beach, FL) was hampered by a short stack for a majority of the afternoon, but managed to reach the final table despite that face.

After the elimination of Al Gomez, Joshua Wasserman (Deerfield Beach, FL) became the shortest stack at the final table.  His shove (for less than ten bigs) was called by both Sheldon Gross and Tony Ruberto, with Ruberto releasing his hand after a Shedon river bet.  Wasserman's A♠ Q was bested by Sheldon's 5♠ 5, after the runout (2 4 6♠ 7♣ 8♠) gave Gross a straight.  Joshua earns $2,895 for his ninth place finish, and records his first tournament cash of the year.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Al Gomez Eliminated In 10th Place ($2,440)

Al Gomez (Miami, FL) continued his good form in reaching another final table, but falls short of his ultimate goal.

Al Gomez (Miami, FL) was one of the shortest stacks coming to the final table, and he'd be all-in and at risk, just a handful of hands in.  After Sheldon Gross limped, Gomez shoved for 112,000, with action folding around to Scott Levitt (in the small blind).  Scott three-bet to just over 325,000, causing Sheldon to release, and getting heads up with Gomez.

It would be the A♣ 6♣ of Gomez, against the 10 10♠ of Levitt, with the board running out 8♣ 4♠ 2♣ 7♠ 2.  Gomez flopped a flush draw, and added even more outs on the turn (to a straight), but ended up bricking the river.  Al received $2,440 for his tenth place finish, while Levitt chips up to 1,800,000.

Richard Kirsch (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is coming off of two large scores, with a final table finish at the WPT Five Diamonds Poker Classic ($271,736), and a win in last week's $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Single-Ante ($42,000).

"Good game," Richard Kirsch said to Matthew Lambrecht, after his A♠ Q♣ got there on the river against Lambrecht's 8♠ 8.  Lambrecht became the second player eliminated by Kirsch, in the matter of three hands, which helped Richard eclipse the 800,000 mark.  Just two hands earlier, Kirsch flopped two pair against William Stanton's top pair, which held up for the elimination.

As this post was being published, Kirsch busted out yet another player, and is above the 900,000 mark, looking to become the first player above 1,000,000 in the field.

After two hands into the "hand-for-hand" process, the "January $100,000" field was in the money.  While the bubble boy requested to remain anonymous, we did see a handful of notables fall just short of the money, including the likes of Jeffrey Kessler, Bruce Kahn, and Walter Bravo.  Players are heading on their first break of the day at the end of this level (less than five minutes), and will be returning to Level 19, with new blinds of 4,000/8,000/1,000.

Once play resumes, we will publish the first list of updated chip counts from the field, followed by official results at each pay jump.

With the field now less than ten eliminations from the money, Tony Ruberto (Miami, FL) sits atop the Day 2 leaderboard.

At Table 2, Anthony Ruberto and Tom Millward would be on the turn, of a board reading J 10 4♠ 3.  After the flop went check-check, Ruberto bet the turn for 25,000, with Millward announcing that he was all-in. Both players started with well above average stacks, but the call would be for all of Ruberto's chips.  "Do you have anything," Tony asked Millward, without getting any reaction.  "I don't think I can fold," Tony continued, eventually collecting his chips and placing them on the felt for a call.

Millward confirmed that a call was made, before turning over 7♠ 7, seemingly knowing that he had to be beat.  Ruberto's quickly tabled K♠ K, and Millward would be left looking for a two-outer to win the massive pot.  The 9 fell on the river, meaning that Ruberto would become the Day 2 chip leader.

Tony Ruberto - 415,000 (69bb)
Tom Millward - 128,000 (21bb)

Mark Salerno (Woodbridge, Canada) started the day above average, and now finds himself in the top ten...after cracking Eric Polirer's pocket aces.

As we head towards the money bubble, certain hands become critical for the larger stacks, just as much they do for the shorties looking to double.  After Mark Salerno opened from early position to 16,700, action would fold to Eric Polirer (Coral Springs, FL), who three-bet shoved for just under 70,000.  Players would quickly release their hands behind, leaving the action back on Salerno.  After getting the exact count, he would make the call, and see some unfortunate news.

Salerno's A♠ Q♣ would be up against the A A♣ of Polirer, and after the K♣ 6♠ 5♠ flop, it looked as if Eric would be earning a huge double.  Many cards could have come on the turn to leave Salerno drawing dead, but the 10♣ actually left him with four outs heading to the river...one of which would arrive, in the shape of the J♠.  "Yes...one time baby," Salerno exclaimed, as he pumped his fist in celebration.  Polirer took the beat about as well as one could, and exited the tournament area, short of the money.

Mark Salerno - 230,000 (46bb)

Sheldon Gross (Hillsboro Beach, FL) stacks up his chips after removing them from his bag, returning to Day 2 as the overall chip leader (364,500).

Ralph Brandt finished the Day 2 rules announcement just a few moments ago, with the cards currently in the air for the "January $100,000" ($360 No Limit Hold'em).  Of the (63) players to return, twenty of them will walk away empty handed, as (43) reach the money.  There are close to fifteen players that returned to stacks of less than twenty big blinds, so after the "feeling out" period that starts the day, we should see eliminations happening family quickly.

ICYMI: Yesterday's tournament schedule hosted the final pair of opening flights for the "January $100,000" ($360 No Limit Hold'em), and it's no surprise that we saw the largest fields.  Flight 1E began at 11:00am, and after twelve levels of play, saw registration close with (123) entries.  That ended up being the largest flight of the six, and also saw the largest number of players heading to Day 2 (14).  Tom Millward (Boca Raton, FL) ended up bagging the flight's chip lead (270,000), a number that would all but guarantee him one of the four chip lead bonuses.  There were also some other large stacks to come out of the flight, belonging to Jose Parra (245,000), Jerry Erickson (242,500), and Marc Sacheli (225,000).  A full listing of the chip counts from the flight can be found by clicking here.

Flight 1F was the final opportunity for players to try and bag chips for the event, and while it wasn't the largest flight, we did see three of the top four overall chip counts come from it.  There were a total of (106) entries in the flight, with (13) players successfully reaching the bagging process.  Topping the counts (and earning seats into the end of month $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Single Ante) were Sheldon Gross (364,500), Al Gomez (273,000), Lukas Pribyl (247,500).  A full list of the players to have bagged chips from Flight 1F can be found by clicking here.

The first multi-flight event of the year attracted a total of (485) entries, and an official prize pool of $135,500.  The payouts were listed earlier in the morning, with first place scheduled to take home $28,995.

Tournaments: Players from the "January $100,000" that bagged chips for today's Day 2 will be returning at 12:00pm, reach to play down to a winner.  The tournament's structure sees no changes, as levels will last (30) minutes over the course of the afternoon/evening.

There is a second tournament on today's tournament schedule, with the $120 No Limit Hold'em "Turbo Bounty" ($2,500) beginning at 6:00pm.  The event is structured with starting stacks of 14,000 units, and levels that last (15) minutes.  There is an optional add-on at the end of registration (Level 10), seeing a return of 10,000 units for $25.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-12:00am (midnight), with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible (Isle Open events not eligible for high hand) each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.  From 12:00am-9:00am, players are eligible for $100 high hands every hour.

It should also be noted that started back on November 1st, players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand!!!  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
