FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Juan Garcia Watches Brutal Runout To Bust In 10th Place ($4,423)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 9/1,144

Juan Garcia (Doral, FL) 10th Place - $4,423

Juan Garcia (Doral, FL) just experienced the cruelness that tournament poker sometimes has to offer, as he watched his pocket kings get cracked by pocket jacks (for a pot worth close to 5,000,000).  Juan had shoved for over (20) big blinds, which at this point is a larger stack, and was snapped by Diane (who had him covered).  Garcia's K♠ K♣ fell to Linke's J J♠ on the J 3 6♣ Q♠ 7♠ runout, and he'd be left staring at the table in disbelief.  This is Juan's best career cash, with came over six years ago in the 2011 Isle Classic.

Like now assumes the final table chip lead, as the players pause the clock to discuss a chop.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Event 7 Final Table Lineup

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 10/1,144

Tournament Supervisor Rick Mims just finished handing out racks to the players at the final table, and they are just finding their new seats.  Here are the assignments for the Event 7 final table:

  1. Megan Endres
  2. Michael Tait
  3. Ory Hen
  4. Diane Linke
  5. Andre Bryan
  6. John Magnetta
  7. Juan Garcia
  8. Abbey Daniels
  9. Nancy Thomas
  10. Erik Nomberg

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Isaiah Goldman Bubbles Event 7 Final Table

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 10/1,144

Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ)

Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ) was playing the short stack about as well as he could, managing to find all of the right spots to shove, and the others to fold.  He'd be left with only five big blinds when he shoved the button, and ended up getting called by Juan Garcia.  Garcia had him dominated with Q♠ 10 against J♠ 10, but Goldman found a pair on the flop of K J 5.  The turn would bring the Q, quite possibly the worst card in the deck for Goldman.  The board paired on the river with 5♣, and the two time Main Event (Isle Poker Open, FSPC) runner-up would be eliminated short of the final table.

The updated seating assignments will be posted shortly (with players going on break in ten minutes).

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Parra Another to Succumb To The Clock, Out In 12th Place ($4,423)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 11/1,144

Jose Parra (Hialeah Gardens, FL) 12th Place - $4,423

Jose Parra's (Hialeah Gardens, FL) name wasn't one that was mentioned much since dinner break, as the veteran grinded things out.  He eventually feel victim to the climbing blinds, as was left with only six blinds, when Nancy Thomas shoved on him (blind v. blind).  Parra would look down at A♠ 2♣ and make the call, only to see the poor shape he was in.  Thomas's A♣ K♠ held throughout the 910♠ 4♠ 6♣ 8♠ runout, and Jose would be knocked out in 12th place ($4,423).  With that cash, Parra crosses the $160,000 mark in career earnings, and grabs his largest score since June of 2015.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Persad Swings And Misses, Leaves In 13th Place ($3,464)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 29 (Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 12/1,144

Nicholas Persad (Delray Beach, FL) 13th Place - $3,464

There are certain spots in a tournament that players need to overcome, in order to win events of this size, and just tournaments in general.  Nicholas Persad (Delray Beach, FL) had just that scenario moments ago, as he was all-in and at risk (for a 2,000,000 chip pot) holding Q J on a flop of A 10 3♠.  His pair outs would be no good, as his opponent (Erik Nomberg) held 10♠ 10♣, but Persad still had a combo draw he could hit to win.  The turn and river would both brick Persad, and he'd be eliminated from play in 12th place, earning $3,464.  Not only is this Nicholas's largest career cash, it's almost twice his career earnings coming into the event.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Wyler Couldn't Recover, Bows Out In 14th Place ($3,464)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 13/1,144

Scott Wyler (Ocean Ridge, FL) 14th Place - $3,464

Scott Wyler (Ocean Ridge, FL) was on cruise control at dinner break, and continued to trend upwards through Level 26.  An hour then passed, and Wyler spent most of the time folding, as his stack diminished.  He would then be involved in the pot of the tournament, as he was all-in with Q♠ Q♣ against John Magnetta's K♠ K♣, for a pot worth close to 3,000,000.  Magnetta would flop a full house to double up, leaving Wyler with less than five big blinds.  He'd be eliminated by Ory Hen moments later, and would head to the podium to collect his prize money.  The cash brings his career earnings to over $190,000, and is his largest since September of 2015.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Updated Chip Counts, Blinds Still Climbing

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)

Players Remaining: 14/1,144

Play just entered Level 28, with blinds going up to 30,000/60,000/5,000 (1,600,000 chip average).  There are still two levels until the next break, so posted below are the updated chip counts from the two remaining tables:

Table 1
  1. Nancy Thomas - 2,200,000
  2. Jose Parra - 850,000
  3. Scott Wyler - 790,000

  7. Megan Endres - 1,400,000
Table 2

  2. Isaiah Goldman - 800,000
  3. Michael Tait - 1,600,000
  4. Juan Garcia - 1,500,000
  5. Andre Bryan - 2,200,000
  6. Nicholas Persad - 1,800,000
  7. Abbey Daniels - 2,300,000

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Taepakdee Out In 15th Place ($3,464)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 28 (Blinds 30,000/60,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 14/1,144

Preecha Taepakdee (Boynton Beach, FL) 15th Place - $3,464

Preecha Taepakdee (Boynton Beach, FL) was another player that managed to survive with a below average stack since Level 22.  He was all-in pre for less than ten bigs, and called in two spots (Michael Tait and Andre Bryan).  The board would run out 8♣ 8♠ 3 28, and Taepakdee would be eliminated holding A♣ 7♣ against Tait's A K♣.  What should also be mentioned about the hand is the action between Bryan and Tait.  Tait would win a massive side pot by making a strong call on the river with just his A K♣ (Bryan had AQ).

Taepakdee cashes for the first time since this year's Battles At The Beach, and adds the $3,464 prize money to his career earnings of $115,408.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Gossett Eliminated In 16th Place ($2,814)

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 17/1,144

Joel Gossett (Lake Worth, FL) 16th Place - $2,814
Joel Gossett (Lake Worth, FL) had been grinding a short stack for a majority of the time since dinner, but managed to seem comfortable doing it.  He did earn a big double at the beginning of the level to stay alive, but the deck wasn't kind to finish him off.  After Diane Linke opened to 150,000 on the button, Gossett would announce himself all-in from the small blind.  Ory Hen then re-shoved from the big, having both players covered, and eliciting a fold from Linke.  Hen's K♠ K just nipped the Q♠ Q of Gossett, with the runout bringing no help to Gossett.  This would be Joel's third cash of the year (all coming here at the Isle), and his largest since June of last year.

FSPC Event 7 (Day 2): Endres Gets A Double, Brody Finds The Exit

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 7 - $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 1,144
Players Remaining: 17/1,144

Megan Andres (Plantation, FL)

Megan Endres (Plantation, FL) found herself with under ten big blinds, and would shove over an open from John Magnetta.  Action folded back around to John, who would make the call, and the two would be flipping.  Megan's J J♣ would hold on a 7♠ 7 5 3♠ J♠ runout, and she'd see her stack get counted down by the dealer (910,000).  She would chip up to 1,900,000 after the double, while John Magnetta dropped down to 890,000.

Jon Brody (Davie, FL) 17th Place - $2,814

Two hands after Megan's double, Jon Brody would be eliminated in 17th place ($2,814).  His shove was for just three blinds, due to the fact that his J♠ J♣ could hold up against Joel Gossett's A Q earlier in the level.  Brody would send over close to 300,000 in that hand to Gossett, leaving him super short.  The $2,814 prize money earned for Brody gets tacked on to his impressive career earnings of $556,364.

Players are heading on a (10) minute break, with the tournament staff coloring off the orange (1,000 denomination) chips from the tables.  The only real action since the redraw was the elimination of Ari Dinov (Lantana, FL), who was left with less than four big blinds when he shoved.  Nicholas Persad hit a two-outer just before redraw, eliminating Dolline Willis and Michael Stewartson in the hand, and helping him propel to the top of the leaderboard.  Posted below are the updated chip counts from break:

The field just lost two players in successive hands, with Scott Wyler (Ocean Ridge, FL) waking up to pocket and aces and pocket kings.  Wyler would first eliminated Solomon Cohen with the pocket aces, and the follow that up by besting Jay Green's Q Q♣ with his K♠ K♣, on the 4♠ 7 9 3♠ 8♣ runout.  With the chips from both players, Scott increased his stack to 2,600,000, just short of new chip leader John Magnetta's 2,800,000 stack.

Scott Wyler - 2,600,000

Level 24 started with the elimination of Jim Gleason (Boca Raton, FL) just a few hands into play, with the exit of Charlemagne Benjamin (Miami Gardens, FL) occurring moments later (35th place - $1,458).  The level would continue on with a few key double ups, as Rich Martzman doubled through Eric Silevitch (1010♣ > K Q on a 2 J 7J♣ 4 runout), and Michael Tait doubled through Ian Cohen (J♠ J♣ > 4♠ 4♣ on the 8 10♠ 6 8♣ J runout).  Martzman would double to 340,000, with Silevitch dropped down to 470,000.  Tait would double to 670,000, while Cohen slipped below 400,000 with the loss.

Juan Garcia (Doral, FL) increased his chip lead over the course of the first post-dinner level, eclipsing 2,000,000, and gaining some extra separation from the rest of the pack.

John Magnetta (Boynton Beach, FL)

It only took the field five minutes to lose a player, as Jim Gleason (Boca Raton, FL) opened to 65,000 at Table 1.  Action folded around to John Magnetta (on the button), who three-bet to 135,000.  After the blinds both released, Gleason made the call, and the two looked at a 8 6 3 flop.  Gleason would rip for just under 250,000, with Magnetta quickly calling, and having Jim in really rough shape.  Magnetta held A A against Gleason's A J, and after the A on the turn, the Jim would be drawing dead.  Gleason won this seat in a $60 satellite, so he profits even more with his 36th place money ($1,458).

Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ)

With a hat covering his "trademark" clean-shaven head, Isaiah Goldman (Princeton, NJ) flew under the radar most of the day.  Goldman can hide no more though, as he becomes the first player in the field to eclipse the 1,000,000 chip mark.  Being in this position is nothing new for Isaiah, a two-time runner-up in consecutive championship events last year.  Goldman took second place in the 2016 Florida State Poker Championships main event for $97,936, and followed that up the next series, with another second in the Isle Poker Open main event ($97,511).  Those two results make up a bulk of his tournament resume, but Goldman wouldn't mind adding a trophy win to get over that second place hump.

Isaiah Goldman - 1,070,000
