The remaining (28) players still active in Day 1B of the Isle Open Championship are now entering the final level, with blinds going up to 1,000/2,000/300 (110,000 chip average).  Play will continue as scheduled, until there is 10:00 minutes remaining on the clock.  At that point, the tournament supervisor (Rick Mims) will announce how many hands remain in the night (5 hands), with said number being completed at each table.  The bagging process will then begin, with official Day 1B chip counts posted once all bags have been verified (around 1:00am).

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): Shrinking Field Enters Final Break, Figueroa Vaults Up The Leaderboard

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 110

Victor Figueroa (Miami, FL) had been flying under the radar for most of the day, but now sits with close to 175,000, and is one of the top stacks in the field.

Players are about to head on their final (15) minute break of the day, and will be returning to Level 10, with new blinds of 800/1,600/200 (82,000 chip average).  Once play resumes, there will be two more levels remaining in the night, with the bagging process beginning at the conclusion of Level 12.  The Day 1B field has lost two tables over the last hour, with (40) players now left in the tournament area, spread across five tables.  There are numerous notables still remaining, many of which are flourishing in these later stages of the night:

Victor Figueroa - 175,000
Nancy Birnbaum - 155,000
Joshua Kay - 130,000
Larry Klur - 130,000
Tom Gity - 125,000

Ryan D'Angelo - 75,000

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): The Beauty Of Tournament Poker, Levitt Is Back

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 108

Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) had a moment of frustration earlier, but put that behind him, and is now flourished on his second attempt of the day.

"I'm going after Levy now," Scott Levitt said as we passed by his table, referencing Marc Levy, who was the chip leader from yesterday (Day 1A).  This is the same Scott Levitt who was left with crumbs, after losing a 150,000 pot to Juan Martinez, back in Level 7.  Levitt ended up busting that first attempt, but then re-entered shortly thereafter, and ended up grinding for a few levels.

His evening then turned around as play returned from dinner, going on rush that players dream of, and turning his 40,000 stack into over 200,000.  Levitt is now just a few thousand chips behind Juan Martinez, and looks to continue this upward trend over the final three levels of the night.

Scott Levitt - 204,000 (170bb)

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 104

Noel Atherley (Lantana, FL) wasn't able to bag chips during yesterday's flight, but is now over the century mark, and looking like he's heading towards Day 2.

Event #15 winner Noel Atherley (Lantana, FL) was able to cruise to the final table last Sunday, after buying into the tournament just before Day 2 started.  He chose a different route for this event, playing the first of three opening flights yesterday afternoon (Day 1A).  Atherley wasn't successful in bagging chips last night, but returned this afternoon with his son (who was on his rail Monday afternoon).  Noel's son has since exited the field, but he's currently doing a good job, holding it down for the family.

Atherley called Kevin Chan's all-in just a few moments ago, holding K♣ 10♣ on a 10♠ 9♣ 4♣ 2 board, against Chan's Q♠ J♣ (for a pot worth close to 80,000).  We approached the table just as the Q♣ hit the river, giving Chan a better pair, but completing Atherley's flush.  Kevin would collect his things and exit the tournament field, while Noel chipped up to 120,000.

Noel Atherley - 120,000 (120bb)

Day 1B play is about to enter Level 9, with blinds going up to 500/1,000/100 (53,000 chip average), and (60) players remaining in the field.

Total Day 1B Entries: 100

Juan Martinez has done well to separate himself from the field, with Brett Bader (Jericho, NY) the only player in the field currently in striking distance of the top spot.

Players are now back from dinner, and while Juan Martinez continues to lead the field, Brett Bader (Jericho, NY) has made a steady climb up the leaderboard.  Bader is the only player in the field that is currently challenging Martinez for the top spot, sitting with 180,000.  Bader has over $568,000 in lifetime earnings, and like so many others we've featured this series, is in the midst of his best statistical year of tournament poker.  Bader has over $176,000 in earnings this year, and is coming off a final table cash during the WSOP Circuit $1,675 Main Event at Hard Rock (5th Place | $66,675).

Juan Martinez - 210,000
Brett Bader - 180,000

The Farmer's Pick Buffet is the place to go on Friday and Saturday nights, with all-you-can-eat king crab legs (along with stone crabs and shrimp).

The remaining (65) players in the Day 1B field are heading on their hour long dinner break, which will last from 6:20-7:20pm.  When play resumes, the new blinds will be 400/800/100, with a chip average of 45,000.  Once the cards are back in the air, we will take our second look at updated chip counts from the field.

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): "Boom-shaka-laka!"

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/75)
Total Day 1B Entries: 94

Both Ryan D'Angelo and Juan Martinez wait and watch, while Scott Levitt decides his next course of action.

Juan Martinez continues to go against everything we mentioned earlier, finding himself involved in what was the largest pot of the flight.  We approached Table 7 on the flop (Q♣ 9 5), with stacks of 38,200 in front of both Scott Levitt and Juan Martinez, and Ryan D'Angelo all-in for 21,225.  Once the dealer got the side pot taken care of, she would place down the K♣ on the turn.

Scott Levitt casually tossed 15,000 toward the cards, with Juan Martinez immediately announcing himself all-in (for 17,675 more).  Levitt voiced (and showed) his displeasure with the move, causing Martinez to say, "What did you think I was going to do, after I put half my stack in on the flop?"  While the call seemed inevitable, Levitt did take some time with his decision, eventually putting the chips across his card (signifying a call).

"You could save them for later," Martinez said, just moments before the call was made...and he'd be correct.  He rolled over J 10♣, and had both players drawing dead, as Ryan and Scott held Ax Qx.

"Boom-shaka-laka," Martinez said in celebration, as the 150,000 pot helps him reassume the chip lead.  Scott Levitt would be eliminated just five hands later.

Juan Martinez - 190,000 (316bb)

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts Post-Break

Wayne Harmon (Portland, CA) is visiting good friend Ryan D'Angelo, and started the trip of right, winning two satellite seats into this championship.

Players are now (30) minutes removed from break, with the chip lead landscape beginning to take shape.  Just as we spoke of the importance of a massive stack early in the day, Juan Martinez lost a big pot to Scott Levitt, and saw close to a quarter of his stack disappear.  Thomas Gari (Hollywood, FL) currently leads the field, sitting with just over 120,000 (240bb).

Thomas Gari - 122,000
Juan Martinez - 90,000
Brett Bader - 90,000
Scott Levitt - 80,000
Wayne Harmon - 75,000
Noel Atherley - 75,000
Nagui Yassa - 70,000
Nancy Birnbaum - 65,000

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): Martinez Pacing The Field As Second Break Approaches

2017 Isle Open | Event #21
$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 85

Juan Martinez (Dade City, FL) leads the field as players are few minutes out of their second break of the day, currently sitting with 130,000.

An early chip lead in a tournament such as this Isle Open Championship is much different than other events, primarily because of the generous structure.  In a tournament that has 25-30 minute levels, the climbing blinds catch up to these big stacks, as do the surrounding players in the field.  To sit with a stack of (325) blinds in this stage of an event with fifty minute levels, is almost a free pass to the bagging process.  Not only is the frequency of massive pots lower in a championship starting flight, but there just aren't enough stacks in the field that can compete (or cause significant damage).

Look at the early chip leader from yesterday (Joshua Lowing), he ended up bagging just under 70,000, from a 150,000 peak.  He was able to absorb a trio of rough levels to end the night, but will still enter Day 2 with (35) bigs.

The early Day 1B chip leader is Juan Martinez (Dade City, FL), and while he may not have the decorated resume that others in the field do, he does have recent run good on his side.  Martinez has only two recorded results, but one of them was less than a month ago, and was worth over $20,000.  Juan bubbled the final table of the WSOP Circuit Main Event ($1,675) at Hard Rock, finishing in eleventh place ($20,001).  Martinez has over 130,000 in front of him, as players are about to head on their second break of the day.

Those still active in the field will return to Level 6, and new blinds of 250/500/75 (36,000 chip average).  There will then be two more levels played, before the next break, which is the hour long dinner break.

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): Santoni Looking To Bookend A Solid Series

2017 Isle Open | Event #21

Total Day 1B Entries: 83

Luis Santoni (Aguada, Puerto Rico) has two cashes during this series, both final table finishes, one of which was worth over $11,500.

Luis Santoni (Aguada, Puerto Rico) is very happy with his Isle Open series, cashing for a total of $12,000 in the last three weeks, and earning this $1,500 buy-in seat through a satellite.  He had a rough start to the day, but just won a healthy pot moments ago, to help bring himself above the starting stack.

The action of the mentioned hand was picked up on the turn of a board reading 2♣ 4 J♣ 5, with Steve Karp betting out 4,500 (into a pot just under 8,000).  Luis Santoni made the call, along with Michael Marks, who was on the button.  After the K♣ completed the board, Karp would bet once again, this time for 3,600.  Santoni gave a good look at the board, before making the call, which was followed by Marks releasing his hand.

Steve Karp rolled over A♣ A, with Santoni standing from his chair, and tabling Q♣ 9♣.  The rivered flush would give Luis the pot, and bring him above starting stack for the first time today.

Luis Santoni - 34,000 (85bb)
Michael Marks - 27,000 (67bb)
Steve Karp - 10,000 (25bb)

WSOP bracelet winner plays a select group of Isle Poker tournaments throughout the year, but the championship events of the major series are events he rarely misses.

While it looked for a brief moment that the numbers were behind schedule, a late rush during break now has the field ahead of yesterday's pace.  One of the newest entrants was Christopher Bolek (Boca Raton, FL), a player that's no stranger to the Isle Poker Room.  While a lot of his early career (tournament) success occurred in this room, Chris's volume of Isle Poker events just isn't what it used to be.  A majority of his focus when in the room is on the highest limit cash games that a run, but he rarely misses events like the new $2,500 Single-Day Series, as well as championship events (such as this).

One of Bolek's six tournament wins came during the 2013 Isle Classic, when he shipped the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event for $96,000.  He's since got his hands on a WSOP bracelet (won this past summer), and has put together a resume with over $1,800,000 in earnings.  Chris joined a group of fashionably late entries, which included players like:

Ryan Riccie
Kevin Chan
Joshua Kay
Joshua Beckley
Nicholas Mahabee
Jeremy White
Alton Mendleson
Randolph Spain
Edward McNamara
Qasem Jamhour

Ryan D'Angelo (Binghamton, NY) just joined the Day 1B field, sitting down in the Isle Poker Room for what we believe to be the first time ever.

Yesterday is was Dan Heimiller...today it's Ryan D'Angelo (Binghamton, NY), both players that are making "special appearances" in this $1,500 Isle Open Championship.  D'Angelo is a professional with over $3,038,000 in live tournament earnings, and owner of a WSOP bracelet, won last year in the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball Event #7 ($92,338).  Ryan has six separate six-figure scores in his career, with his largest tournament cash coming during the 2010 PCA $10,000 Main Event (5th Place for $700,000).  Outside of his accomplishments on the "live felt," D'Angelo is also widely considered one of the better online players as well.

Poker aside, D'Angelo spends a lot of his time and money towards charitable efforts.  One of his focuses was the Food Gardens Foundation, a charity in South Africa that provides seeds, and helps educate people with farming techniques in the region.

Also joining D'Angelo in the late arriving crowd were names like:

Riley Fuller
Nagui Yassa
Dylan Drazen
Brian Hastings
Thomas Gari
Denna David
Steven Karp
Carmine Floreno

Players will be taking their first break at the end of this level (just a few moments), returning to Level 4, and new blinds of 150/300/50.

Tom Gity (Pompano Beach, FL) has three cashes during this series, but is still looking for his breakout Isle Poker score.

Last night was the second of three evening satellites into this $1,500 Isle Open Championship, guaranteeing players in the tournament at least (8) seats.  The showing was strong for the 6:00pm event, with a ninth (bubble) spot added to the payouts, earning $600.  Tom Gity (Pompano Beach, FL) was one of the eight players to earn a seat last night, and his looking to best his last championship event run.  Gity reached the final three tables of the Florida State Poker Championship $1,500 Main Event, earning $4,698 for his 27th place finish.  Tom is an Isle Poker tournament regular, and while he has over $154,000 in cashes (spanning 61 recorded results), the major title has been eluding him.  Gity has seen his 30,000 unit starting stack cut down over the first two levels of play, but can still afford to be patient with this generous structure.  The official results from last night's satellite are posted below:
  1. Bernard Lubitz ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)
  2. David Singh ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)
  3. Ido Ashkenazi ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)
  4. Roberto Barreto ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)
  5. Patrick Biancone ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)
  6. Andrew Davis ($1,500 Isle Open Championship Seat)

Isle Open Championship (Day 1B): Levitt Looking For His Fifth Isle Poker Major Win

$1,500 No Limit Hold'em Isle Open Championship| $500,000 GTD
Level 2 (Blinds 75/150/25)
Total Day 1A Entries: 44

Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) won his fourth Isle Poker major tournament earlier this series, which also happened to be his second Seniors Championship win.

The Day 1B field is currently moving at a slower pace than yesterday (in terms of entries), but it's likely that things will pick up as the afternoon continues.  For the past four years, there hasn't been a major tournament series main event that didn't see an increase in starting flight attendance (from start to finish).

This early afternoon field consists of a lot of new faces to the event, including Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL).  Scott...or Joseph, depending on which Hendon Mob account you're looking at, has over $221,000 in lifetime tournament earnings (spread over two names on Hendon).  His most recent result came earlier this series (just five days ago), when he won Event #16 ($175 No Limit Hold'em Seniors Championship, earning $2,414 for his efforts.  The title was his fourth overall, in terms of Isle Poker major wins, and his second Seniors Championship win (2013 Isle Open).

Other players that are taking their first attempt at bagging in this event include:

Dolphus Powers
Richard Leger
Larry Klur
Nancy Birnbaum
Luis Santoni
Kobi Ribak

Day 1B of the 2017 Isle Open $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship is about to see the first cards pitched, with Tournament Director Ralph Brandt currently finishing up the rules announcement.  Yesterday's Day 1A action started very strong, and ended up reaching the bagging process with a total of (92) entries.  Of those entries, there were (23) players that reached the end of play for the day, earning two days off, before returning to Day 2 on Sunday.  Marc Levy bagged the Day 1A chip lead with 255,600, just edging out notable pro Barry Hutter (255,000).  Also in the top five stacks bagged was Sam Panzica (220,400), who arrived at the Isle Poker Room less than (24) hours removed from a WPT final table at Best Bet Jacksonville.  A full list of yesterday's chip counts will be posted shortly, as part of coverage for Day 1B.

This starting day is structured the same as the one that came before, and will come after it.  Players in each of the three starting flights will sit down to 30,000 unit starting stacks, and will play levels that last (50) minutes.  As the tournament progresses, those levels will transition to (60) at the beginning of Day 2 (Sunday at 12:00pm), and will continue that way until the tournament's conclusion (which is scheduled for Monday, October 30th).  Registration for the event is open through each of the starting flights (which play until the conclusion of Level 12), and stays open until the cards are in the air for Day 2.

Friday, October 27th: Isle Open Championship Continues With Weekend Action

ICYMI: Yesterday was the opening day of action for the 2017 Isle Open $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event, a tournament with a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.  Day 1A of Event #21 attracted a total of (92) entries...a mixture of satellite winners, familiar faces from series, and notable names in town for this particular event.  After twelve scheduled levels of play, a total of (23) players remained, bagging up chips for Sunday's Day 2 (12:00pm).  Marc Levy (Boynton Beach, FL) assumed the chip lead just before the dinner break, and while he may have slipped from the top spot at points afterward, he was able to reclaim the position at night's end (255,600).  Rounding out the top five stacks from Day 1A were Barry Hutter (255,000), Matthew Yorra (239,400), Sam Panzica (220,400), and Trent Smith (176,500).

A total of $124,200 from Day 1A will go towards the overall prize pool, with two flights remaining in the event (today's Flight 1B at 12:00pm, and tomorrow's Flight 1C at 12:00pm).  A total of (279) more entries are needed to reach the event's guarantee, which is a number that is surely attainable over the next (48) hours.

The second event of the day starts at 6:00pm, and is a $175 No Limit Hold'em Super Satellite, awarded a guaranteed (10) seats into the Main Event.  This event's structure has players sitting down to starting stack of 12,000 units, and playing levels that last (20) minutes over the course of the evening.
