Event 14 (Day 2): Touchette Doubles Through Rodriguez

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 21 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 482
Players Remaining: 19
Chip Average: 761,000

Andrew Touchette was one the shorter stacks of the (19) players remaining, but sitting with 240,000, he still had manageable (20) big blinds to deal with.  He'd open-shove from early position, with action folding around to Christian Rodriguez in the big blind.  Christian took no time to verbalize a call, and the hands were tabled:

Touchette: A♠ A♣
Rodriguez: 10 10♠

Runout: J♣ 6 3 8♠ 6♠

Touchette's pocket aces would hold, giving him a critical double up, and he now sits as close to chip average as he's been since the last break.

Christian Rodriguez - 860,000
Andrew Touchette - 510,000

Event 14 (Day 2): Kadosh Goes Runner-Runner To Eliminate Nguyen

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 21 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 482
Players Remaining: 20
Chip Average: 723,000

Uri Kadosh opened from under the gun, with action then folding around to Alex Nguyen in the big blind.  With 340,000 behind, Nguyen announced that he was all-in, leaving Kadosh with a decision for about half of his remaining chips.  Uri seemed a little reluctant in calling, but did just that after dumping a pile of orange chips across his cards:

Nguyen: K♠ K
Kadosh: A♠ 10♠

Runout: J♠ J♣ 3♣ Q♠ 4♠

It looked like a pretty safe flop for Nguyen, but Kadosh's equity rose after the Q♠ on the turn (giving him a combo draw).  The river 4♠ completed Kadosh's flush, eliminating Nguyen from the tournament, and helping Uri recoup some of the chips he lost since the level started.

Uri Kadosh - 1,100,000
Alex Nguyen - 21st Place ($4,555)

Event 14 (Day 2): "Movers And Shakers," Final Level Of Day 2

Rafael Reis (Curitiba, Brazil)

With all eyes on the "money bubble," a lot of action went unreported during hand-for-hand play.  Rafael Reis (Curitiba, Brazil) spent the time scooping up pot after pot, and even since the bubble burst, Reis has continued the trend.  He is the first player in the field to eclipse the 1,000,000 mark, and has primed himself for a deep run in this event.  The field has just reached it's first pay jump, meaning we are now down to four tables.  A list of official results for each pay jump will be posted moments after they are reached.

Rafael Reis - 1,100,000

Event 14 (Day 2): Hart Gives Max Effort, But Falls Just Short...Main Event ITM

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 482
Players Remaining: 45
Chip Average: 321

Scott Hart (Parkland, FL) started the day with 17,000 in chips, managed to navigate his way to the money bubble, never getting above 10-12 big blinds.  He continued to grind his short stack as hand-for-hand play began, even getting a fold from James Salmon after he shoved for 27,000, with Salmon having 8,000 out for the big blind.  While Salmon's decision to fold became the topic of conversation at other tables, hand-for-hand continued on.  Hart had a few chances to sneak into the money, but on two separate occasions, the smaller stack doubled up.

After Rob Salaburu opened from the button to 18,000, Scott Hart tossed in his final 13,000.  TJ Shulman, who was next to act in the big blind, announced that he was all-in (for close to 300,000).  Salaburu quickly folded, and the hands would be tabled:

Hart: A Q
Shulman: K♣ K♠

Runout: 4 9♠ 87♠ Q♠

Hart couldn't find help in the runout to grab the lead away from Shulman, and he'd end up exiting the field just one spot short of the money.  The clock has resumed is regularly scheduled movement, and everyone in the field is guaranteed $3,254.

Event 14 (Day 2): Cards Are Back In The Air

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 19 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 482
Players Remaining: 48
Chip Average: 301,000

The remaining (48) Day 2 players are heading to their seats, and the cards are about to get back in the air.  We are only three eliminations from the money, and with a handful of stacks less than (10) bigs, we could see a money bubble that doesn't last terribly long.  Once the bubble bursts, we will try and bring you a full field lineup, followed by updated chip counts from the field.

The tournament supervisors have decided that there will be at least four more levels of play this evening, with the bagging process beginning sometime around 12:00am.  That gives the Day 3 players at least (12) hours between the pause, and the time that Day 3 begins tomorrow.

The remaining (50) players are heading on their hour long dinner break, and will be returning to Level 19, with blinds increasing to 4,000/8,000/1,000. Live blogged coverage of Day 2 will continue the moment the cards are in the air for Level 19, with the money bubble front and center.

Bryce McVay (Jupiter, FL)

What seemed like a simple blind v. blind confrontation, turned into one of the bigger pots of the day at Table 5.  After action folded around to Bryce McVay in the small blind, he'd complete, and wait to see what Steven McKoy decided to do.  McKoy raised to 15,000, and the two would see a flop of 2 5♠ 10, after Bryce made the call.

McVay then check-called a 20,000 flop bet from McKoy, with the action following going check-check after the board paired with another 10♣.  The river brought a third ten (2 5♠ 10 10♣ 10), and after Bryce checked, McKoy put out a huge overbite of 200,000 (putting Bryce all-in).  Bryce is a player who is very calculated to start, so taking time with decisions is nothing new for him.  He took a solid 3-4 minutes before deciding to make the call, with McKoy rolling over 3♣ 6♣.  The bluff almost got through for McKoy, but McVay called with A 5, with his full house good for a pot worth over 400,000.

Bryce McVay - 420,000
Steven McKoy - 185,000

Event 14 (Day 2): Couden Continues To Climb

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 18 (Blinds 3,000/6,000/500)

Players Remaining: 60
Chip Average: 241,000

Table 3 is the home to a few of the biggest stacks in the field, along with one of the tougher table lineups (although all of the tables have strong lineups).  Moments ago, Joseph Couden limped from early position, with action folding around to Keith Nassetta (Boca Raton, FL), who pushed all-in for 47,500.  Action then folded to chip leader Ryan Van Sanford in the small blind, who just called Nassetta's all-in amount.  The decision would now be back on Joseph Couden, who three-bet to 90,000, with Van Sanford coming along (side pot of just under 60,000 between the two active players).

The dealer fanned out a flop of 4♠ 5♠ 6♠, and after Van Sanford checked to Couden, Joseph placed out a bet of 42,000.  Ryan then folded, and Couden rolled over A♣ A♠, followed by Nassetta tabling QJ♣.  The turn brought the 3, giving Couden the nut flush, leaving Nassetta hoping only for the 7 for a chop.  The river 6 brought an end to Nassetta's day, while the main/side pot brought Couden to over 400,000.

Ryan Van Sanford - 585,000
Joseph Couden - 411,000

Joseph Couden (Blacklick, OH)

Two years ago, Joseph Couden (Blacklick, OH) won the 2015 Florida State Poker Championship $1,500 Main Event ($154,762), a tournament score that still stands as the largest on his resume ($1,172,911 total).  Couden is looking to make another deep run, and after doubling through Daren Stabinski, Joey is above average for the first time all day.  The two would get it in pre-flop for a pot worth 240,000, with Couden holding 9♠ 9♣ against Stabinski's A♠ Q♣.  Daren would be drawing super slim after the 97♠ 7 flop, needing running aces or queens to make a better full house.  Stabinski would be drawing dead on the turn, and Couden would earn the full double.

Joseph Couden - 240,000
Daren Stabinski - 165,000

Event 14 (Day 2): Notables Continue To Fall

Chip Average: 215,000

The title of the post may seem a little deceiving, being that most of the field that remains are considered "notables" the Isle Poker Room.  The following players have been eliminated from Day 2 of the BATB Main Event:

Ian O'Hara
Dominique Mosley
Angelo Miele
Joe Palma
Sheldon Gross
Stewart Newman
Raminder Singh
Cory Zeidman

Mohammad "Sheddy" Siddiqui (Pembroke Pines, FL)

Day 2 players are heading on their second break of the day, and will return to play one more level (Level 17), before heading on their schedule hour-long dinner break.  It looks as if Sheddy Siddiqui (Pembroke Pines, FL) got some of that Van Sanford "fire," as he has turned his 140,000 stack into over 415,000.  Sheddy has three titles amongst his lifetime (69) recorded results, with two of the three coming here at the Isle (including a $550 NLH event during the 2011 Battle At The Beach).  Sheddy may be repping Seminole Hard Rock, but he definitely wouldn't mind adding this BATB Main Event trophy to his mantle.

The leaderboard continues to change, with David Bradshaw (Decatur, GA) grabbing the lead, sitting on a stack of over 575,000.

David Bradshaw - 580,000
Ryan Van Sanford - 470,000
Steven McKoy - 440,000
Uri Kadosh - 420,000

Ryan Van Sanford (Colorado Springs, CO)

One of the better places for media to find updates from players (other than spotting things in person across the field) is Twitter.  Anyone who follows the blog (and plays in these events) is encouraged to follow @_relaxilla_ on Twitter, so player updates from the field can be seen.  Moments ago, Sheddy Siddiqui posted a little something about his table mate:

Ryan Van Sanford has been trending up since the beginning of the day, and was second in chips during the last update, but his rise has yet to stop.  Just as we arrived to the table, Van Sanford was calling the all-in of an opponent on a 5♠ 3♣ 8 board, quickly tabling 8♠ 8♣ (top set) before dropping his chips in.  The set would best pocket aces, as Van Sanford sent yet another player home, and chipped up to over 500,000 in the process.  Ryan is the clear chip leader at the moment, as is poised to add to his career earnings of $1,014,000.

Event 14 (Day 2): What A Difference One Hand Makes

"Battles At The Beach"

Chip Average: 152,000

Daniele Nucci (Harwood, MD)

In no-limit tournament poker, it only takes one hand to change a player's course, something that Daniele Nucci (Harwood, MD) experienced during Level 15.  Nucci would open UTG to 6,000, with Alex Nguyen three-betting to 17,000.  After one fold, Marcus Stein flatted the 17,000, with action back on Nucci.  Daniele took little time before shoving for just over 70,000, which was followed by a fold from Nguyen, and a tank from Stein.  Marcus made his decision after about two minutes, and once he did make the call, the cards were tabled:

Nucci: A♠ 10♣
Stein: A♣ K♠

Runout: 10 9 2♠ 3♣ 8♠

Nucci, who was in pretty rough shape when the cards were table, out flopped Stein to win the hand and double to over 170,000.  Daniele continued that winning trend for the remainder of the level, and now sits with just under 300,000.

Event 14 (Day 2): McKoy Could Potentially Reach Career Milestone

Players Remaining: 102
Chip Average: 142,000

Steven McKoy (Birmingham, AL)

Steve McKoy (Birmingham, AL) was just outside the top ten in chips coming into Day 2, but the first two hours of play have seen him climb to the top three.  McKoy is currently sitting with 380,000, and looking to possibly reach a career milestone via this event.  If McKoy were to win, the $171,000 first place prize would put his career earnings over $1,000,000, a number that every tournament professional strives for.

While many of the Isle Poker Room "big game" players are experiencing some early success on this Day 2 (McKoy, Ruberto, O'Hara, Cassetta, Amato), one of the more vocal players in the game has just made his tournament exit.  Vincent Aloi (Coconut Creek, FL) had been the "voice" of this event to this point, but was eliminated during the beginning stages of this level.

Players are currently on their first (15) minute break of the day, and will be returning to Level 15, with blinds going up to 1,500/3,000/400 (130,000 chip average).  The top of the leaderboard has stood pretty strong from the numbers coming into the day, with a handful of new names joining the list after shooting up the leaderboard.  Tony Ruberto (Miami, FL) came into the day with 199,100, and after two levels, still sits in the top ten with 260,000.  Ruberto is a staple in the biggest cash games played in this room, but has a very strong tournament resume to stand by.  Tony has over $2,000,000 in live tournament earnings, including a WPT win from Jacksonville from 2011 ($3,500 NLH - $325,928), and two Isle Poker titles (2011 Isle Classic and 2012 Battle At The Beach).

The field continues to shrink at a pretty rapid pace, but as the players get closer to the money bubble, things will begin to slow down considerably.  The chip average still sits at (50) big blinds, so what we're seeing in the field is the shorter stacks drop off, with the occasional "cold deck" type of spot that can cause players with healthy stacks to get eliminated.  The following players have had been eliminated from play over the course of the first two levels of play:

Paul Shafran
Sam Ganzfried
Peter Vitantonio
Carlos Loving
Tom Gity

Players will be heading on their first break of the day at the end of this level, at which point the first look at updated chip counts will be posted.

Event 14 (Day 2): Amato Makes The Biggest First Level Move

"Battles At The Beach"
Event 14 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event $500,000 GTD)
Level 14 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/400)
Total Entries: 473
Players Remaining: 127
Chip Average: 114,000

Michael Amato (Delray Beach, FL)

We are now one level into Day 2, with the field losing just under (40) players in the first sixty minutes.  Maurice Hawkins (Plantation, FL) was one of those to be eliminated from the Day 2 field, unable to spin up that Day 2 entry.  On the other side of the spectrum, we have Battles At The Beach Event 8 winner Michael Amato (Delray Beach, FL), who has almost tripled his Day 2 starting stack.  Amato started the afternoon with 84,400, and after only an hour, he is now sitting with 230,000.  It's not uncommon for one player to really "take over" a series, so a close eye will be kept on his progress throughout the day.
