FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Things Ending Early, Steve Legault Bags The Flight 1C Chip Lead (Official Counts)

Flight 1C chip leader Steve Legault (Naples, FL) earns himself an Event #9 seat ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em).

With the elimination of Paul Shafran, the field would be left with (11) players, halting play for Flight 1C.  Steve Legault (Naples, FL) benefits the most from the stoppage, as he is crowned the flight's chip leader (with 370,500).  Official chip counts from the flight are listed below:

Steve Legault - 370,500
Vito Polera - 342,000
Francis Margaglione - 257,000
Scott Hecker - 221,000

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Steve Legault Likes His Standing, Chip Leader With Under An Hour To Play

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/4,000)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 17

Steve Legault (Naples, FL) was below average after the registration period closed, but has trended steadily in the right direction.

Steve Legault (Naples, FL) is makes the most of his time here on the "right" coast of Florida, as he enters the final two levels of play as the Flight 1C chip leader.  He is the first player to eclipse the 300,000 mark, and does have a comfortable lead at the moment.  Legault has career earnings over $13,400, spread across five results, with one coming here at the Isle Casino Poker Room.  Steve went deep in Event #5 of the 2016 Battles At The Beach ($350 No Limit Hold'em), finishing in 16th place for $2,160.

Steve Legault - 320,000 (80bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Updated Chip Counts, As The Race For The Chip Lead Bonus Heats Up

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 14 (Blinds 2,000/3,000/3,000)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 18

Play just entered Level 14, leaving just three levels of play remaining in the day.  It looks like we might reach the 10% mark before that point though, as players are dropping very quickly.  We are already down to two tables (18 players remaining), with the stopping point for the day coming when the field reaches (11) remaining.  Listed below are the top five stacks left in the field:

Scott Hecker - 235,000 (78bb)
Francis Margaglione - 230,000 (76bb)
Eric Legault - 210,000 (70bb)
Rocco Arelop - 180,000 (60bb)
Len Murray - 175,000 (58bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Patience Always (Well Sometimes) Works For Hagensick

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 13 (Blinds 1,500/2,500/2,500)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 26

Rocco Arelop wasn't hovering around the chip average (78,000), but used to big hands to propel himself to the Flight 1C chip lead.

Just a few hands before the most recent break, Elizabeth Hagensick was short stacked, but got in all-in with a dominating lead (pocket tens versus pocket deuces).  She would end up doubling, and preached that it was "all about patience."  Then, with two minutes remaining in Level 12, Hagensick would find herself all-in once again (for a sizable pot worth close to 120,000), and held a dominating lead once again:

Hagensick: A♠ A♣
Rocco Arelop: Q Q

Runout: Q♠ 9♣ 7 10♠ 9♠

"Don't do that," Hagensick said, as she saw the queen right in the window.  The runout would not bring any help to Elizabeth, and she'd be eliminated just before break.

Rocco Arelop - 255,000 (101bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): The Big Question Is...Can Francis Margaglione Hold

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/1,600)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 36

Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL) has made his way to the top of the leaderboard, and hopes to continue the upward trend towards the Flight 1C chip lead bonus.

Francis Margaglione (Davie, FL) is no stranger to amassing massive stacks during opening flights in the past, and he's also no stranger to seeing those chips slip away.  Francis is very much an "all or nothing" player, and does not want to be heading to Day 2 with a ten big blind stack.  He's very comfortable with heaps, and has the results to back up his play.  Francis has over $171,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, spread across (58) recorded results, in the last five years.  A special eye will be kept on Francis, as he could run away with the chip lead bonus...or run away from the table.

Francis Margaglione - 150,000 (93bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Updated Chip Counts From The Field

Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 40

Jose Silva (Plantation, FL) holds the chip lead heading into Level 10, but a lot can change over the final three hours of the day.

The leaderboard is a little crowded up top, as no player has yet to have separated themselves form the rest.  Jose Silva (Plantation, FL) is the current chip leader, entering Level 10 with just over 130,000 in front of him.  Silva has just under $50,000 in career tournament earnings, including a career best cash in the 2016 SHRPO $5,250 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event (66th place for $15,000).

Jose Silva - 130,000 (108bb)
Clint Russell - 125,000 (104bb)
Andre Rakusa - 110,000 (91bb)
Len Murray - 105,000 (87bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Official Numbers Are Now In, Flight 1C Closes With (102) Entries

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/1,000)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 102
Flight 1C Players Remaining: 48

The cards are in the air for Level 9, and Flight 1C is now officially closed.  The third of eight starting flights attracted a total of (102) entries, of which (48) still remain.  The prize pool from the flight is $13,770, and combined with the numbers from yesterday, brings the overall pool to $46,710.  That means we are almost half the way to the posted guarantee (of $100,000), and on a pace to just crush the numbers.

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Andre Rakusa Building, As Registration Window Closes

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/800)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 98

Andre Rakusa (Coral Springs, FL) is no stranger to success during the major series here at the Isle Poker Room, shipping Event #9 of the 2016 Isle Poker Open ($350 No Limit Hold'em).

As Level 8 winds down, so does the time for players to join this Flight 1C action.  There will be another ten minute break at the end of this level, and when Level 9 resumes, registration will be officially closed for the flight.  One player who has seen some recent success has been Andre Rakusa (Coral Springs, FL), who just eliminated a player at his table, to help bring his stack to 90,000.  Rakusa has shown that he's a dangerous player with a big stack, amassing career tournament earnings of over $140,000.

Andre Rakusa - 90,000 (112bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): CardPlayer Poker Tour Schedule To Be Released Shortly

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/600)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 92

We teased it last month during coverage of the first multi, but we can now tell you that the schedule for next month's CardPlayer Poker Tour series will be released in the coming week.  The tournament series has a total of nine events, including an $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Main Event, which boasts a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool.

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Len Murray The First To Eclipse Century, A "Wild Card" In The Field

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 6 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 87

Len Murray is shown as being from the United States on Hendon Mob, which just shows the vagueness that our research provided about the Flight 1C chip leader.

Yesterday is was Nelson Armas, and today it's Len Murray, as the first player to eclipse to 100,000 chip mark.  Armas ended up bagging 137,500 to end Flight 1A, so maybe it's a good thing to become the first to achieve that feat.  Not much is known of Murray though, as research on Hendon Mob yields just one tournament result, from a 2014 PPC event at Ft. Pierce (a fifth place cash worth $135).    While the lack of results doesn't help us paint a picture of Len Murray "the poker player," that doesn't mean he should be considered a novice.  We will keep an eye on his progress as the day continues, with the registration period for Flight 1C closing in just over an hour.

Len Murray - 110,000 (220bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Scott Hecker Doubles Up, Just Weeks Removed From Career Best Cash

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 5 (Blinds 300/500/500)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 78

Scott Hecker (Boca Raton, FL) had a plan limping with a big hand, and it just so happened to unfold exactly how we would have liked it to.

After limping under the gun with A K, Scott Hecker (Boca Raton, FL) would watch as a player from middle position raised to 2,200, with just the big blind calling.  With action now back on Hecker, he would shove for 12,600, followed by the original raiser re-shoving for over 20,000.  The player in the big blind folded, and Hecker would be racing for his tournament life:

Hecker: A♣ K♠
A. Nonymous: 9 9

Runout: A♠ 3♠ Q♠ 10 10♠

Scott would spike an ace on the flop to make the lead, and end up with a flush after the runout was completed.  Scott saves himself a buy-in with the double up, and looks to now run this stack up to a manageable number for Day 2.  Just three weeks ago, Hecker took second place money in a chop of the $175 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD), worth $10,976.  It was his largest career cash, and helped bring his overall earnings to $62,280.

Scott Hecker - 28,000 (56bb)

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Hagensick Returns After Deep Run In WSOP Ladies Championship

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 4 (Blinds 200/300/300)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 66

Elizabeth Hagensick (Lakewood, FL) returns from Las Vegas with a nice score under her belt, falling just short of the Ladies Championship final table at the WSOP.

We've seen a lot of players returning from the WSOP with some nice results, and can now add another name to that last, as Elizabeth Hagensick (Lakewood, CA) takes her seat in the Flight 1C field.  Hagensick fell just a few spots short of reaching the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em Ladies Championship final table, bowing out in 15th place ($5,388).  She would follow that up with a deep run in a $550 No Limit Hold'em event at the Wynn Summer Classic, before returning to Florida.  Elizabeth is one of the later entries into today's field, sitting down to Table 10 just over thirty minutes ago.  Some other new faces in the crowd include:

Andre Rakusa
Joseph Mancuso
Paul Shafran
Kathy Sapp
Steven Zukowski
Francis Margaglione
Michael Goldfarb

FSPC Event #1 (Flight 1C): Michael Tait Back In Action, Right In His Comfort Zone

Event #1 | $175 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/200)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 54

When it comes to multi-flight events at the Isle Poker Room, it's been a great year for Michael Tait (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), who already has over $31,000 in earnings during past events.

Michael Tait (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was a player who made numerous appearances on the blog to start the year, chopping a $250 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD) in January, and a $360 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD) in March.  In total, the combined results were worth over $31,000, and helped bring his career earnings well north of $400,000.  It's been a little while since we've seen Michael, but he's returned to action this afternoon, after cashing in Event #62 at the World Series Of Poker ($888 No Limit Hold'em "Crazy Eights").

Tait headlines the first look at notables in this Flight 1C field, with a lot of new faces in the crowd this afternoon:

Level 1 (Blinds 100/100)
Total Flight 1C Entries: 22

The 2018 Florida State Poker Championships got off to a blazing start yesterday, as the first pair of starting flights for Event #1 attracted a total of (244) entries.  Those are some excellent numbers for an opening day that fell on a Thursday, with this upcoming weekend expected to draw even larger numbers.  We keep harping back to last year's numbers for this same event, which drew a field of 1,590 entries, and a prize pool of $223,160.  Those same numbers seem very attainable after yesterday's quick start, so it will be exciting to see how the next three days unfold.

Players are already seated in the tournament area, with the first Flight 1C hand dealt just a few moments ago.  Everyone is currently chasing Nathan Van Hare, who ended up bagging the Flight 1B chip lead (and overall leading stack), with 356,500.  While difficult to reach, players in today's flight can still earn a chip lead bonus, as it's a "new race."  Coverage will start with an updates post of combined chip counts from yesterday, before we delve into some of the notables in today's field.

Friday, July 6th: Event #1 Of The FSPC Off To A Very Strong Start, Second Pair Of Opening Flights On Tap Today

ICYMI: If yesterday's turnout was a sign of things to come, then we are going to be in for a very special series this year (and why shouldn't we, it's the tenth anniversary of the FSPC).  The series kicked off yesterday afternoon, with the first pair of opening flights for Event #1, which is a $175 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD).

Between Flight 1A and Flight 1B, there were a total of (244) entries, which is really an impressive number for a Thursday.  The combined prize pool sits at $32,940, which is already a third of the way to the posted guarantee, with six flights still remaining.  As eye-popping as the numbers were, the end of day chip counts were even more surprising.  Thomas Gari (Hollywood, FL) bagged the Flight 1A chip lead with 312,500, while Nathan Van Hare led Flight 1B with 356,500.  David Albertson actually ended up bagging more than the Flight 1A leader (331,000), but missed out on an Event #9 seat because of Van Hare.  The top ten stacks heading to Day 2 are rounded out by:

Kevin Naim - 304,500
Bret Grebow - 292,500
Tim Shane - 270,000
Joao Santos - 241,000
Michael Corbett - 228,500
Mihaly Lukacs - 227,500
Tom Gity - 209,000

That list will surely change over the next three days, as six flights are still left to be played, starting with today's Flight 1C (11:00am) and Flight 1D (6:00pm).

Tournaments: Today's schedule hosts the second pair of opening flights for Event #1 (of the 2018 Florida State Poker Championship), which is a $175 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD).  There will be six starting flights over the next three days (Friday through Sunday), with players that bagged chips returning on Monday, for Day 2 action.  Each of the flights have the same structure, with players sitting down to starting stacks of 20,000 units, and levels during the tournament that last (25) minutes.  Registration for each flight is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows, allowing almost four hours for players to join the action.  The "chip lead bonus" is back, as each of the flight's chip leaders will earn a seat into Event #9, which is an $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD).

Each of the afternoon flights will have live blogged coverage, kicking off at 11:00am, and offering updates through each of the flight's bagging process.  Evening flights will have official counts posted at their conclusion, with follower's getting wall-to-wall coverage during Monday's Day 2.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-6:00pm, with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.

Then, from 6:00pm-12:00am, players can win up to $1,500 every (30) minutes.  If the high hand is made on the flop, and then qualifies as the winning hand for the half hour, the player will be awarded $1,500 (no limit Hold'em games only).  If the hand is flopped in a limit Hold'em game or tournament, and it holds up for the thirty minute period, they will be awarded $750.

Following that promotion, from 12:00am-9:00am, eligible high hands will be awarded $100 every hour.

It should also be noted that players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand.  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).
