FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Bagging Begins Shortly, Chip Counts To Follow

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 169
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 56

The remaining Flight 1B players are only (15) minutes from the clock being paused, and the final hands of the night being played.  Once each table has completed the allotted hands, those left will bag their chips for Sunday's Day 2, with official counts to follow at 1:30am.

Coverage of the FSPC Main Event (Flight 1C) will begin tomorrow at 12:00pm, with the event to eclipse the guarantee before the end of Level 1.  Tomorrow is going to attract the largest field of the three flights, and we will surely see some new names as the time left to find a bag winds down.

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): "Easy Come, Easy Go" For Bastarache

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 168
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 64

Robert Transue (N. Lauderdale, FL)

Danielle Bastarache was one card away from elimination moments ago, with Michael Chiappetta turning a straight against her flopped set.  The board would end up pairing on the river, and Danielle would reach the chip average for the first time in a long while.  The very next hand, after Tom Gity limped, Robert Transue (N. Lauderdale, FL) three-bet to 5,200.  Bastarache shrugged her shoulders and threw in a call, with Gity also flatting behind.  On the 3♠ 5♠ 7 flop, Transue would bet 11,000, with Danielle min-clicking it back (22,000).  Gity released his hand, and Transue followed with a casual call.  Now heads up, both players would check the turn (8), with the 2 falling on the river.  Transue tossed a 15,000 bet out, and after a good two minutes in the tank, Danielle made the call.

Robert rolled over 8♠ 8♣, having turned a set against Bastarache's over pair (J J♠).  The all-time leader in Isle Casino Poker tournament cashes is now up to 120,000, and less than (40) minutes from bagging.

Robert Transue - 122,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Recapping Beckley's Rise To The Top

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 168
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 65

Joshua Beckley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

On the final hand of Level 10, Joshua Beckley and Ian O'Hara got involved in a pot that was four-bet pre (with O'Hara putting in the fourth bet).  The action was checked by both players on the 10♣ 9♣ 6 flop, with the Q coming on the turn, and O'Hara checking once again.  Beckley put together a bet of 18,500, and after about thirty seconds, O'Hara casually put the call out in front of him.  The board would pair on the river with the 9♠, O'Hara checked for a last time, and quickly called after Beckley verbalized an all-in.

Beckley tabled Q♣ Q, having turned a full house, with Ian's J J♣ getting turned over by the dealer as he walked away from the table.  The 2015 WSOP Main Event runner-up vaulted to third in chips, and hopes to put himself in position to best his last Isle Poker Championship Event results (finishing 14th in the $1,500 Battles At The Beach Main Event - $6,182).

Joshua Beckley - 212,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Updated Chip Counts From Final Break

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 167
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 65

Andres Morales (Deerfield Beach, FL)
Players are finishing up their final break of the night, and will return to Level 11, with blinds of 800/1.600/200 (77,000 chip average).  There are two more levels remaining in the night, with the bagging process beginning at the conclusion of Level 12.  Abbey Daniels and Andres Morales were the first players to eclipse 200,000, with Joshua Beckley joining them on the hand before break.  Listed below are some of the larger stacks collected during break:

Abbey Daniels - 225,000
Andres Morales - 218,000
Joshua Beckley - 207,000
Ryan Gianquitti - 190,000
Maurice Hawkins - 160,000
Jake Ozyman - 145,000
Joseph Couden - 120,000
Jonathan Borenstein - 115,000
Joshua Kay - 110,000
Phillip Hui -96,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Phillip Hui Doubles Through Alex Hader

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 164
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 71

Phillip Hui (San Antonio, TX)

While collecting chip counts from the field, we happened to come across a hand between Phillip Hui and Alex Hader.  Hui was all-in with A A♣ on a Q 8 6 flop, with Hader having just tabled Q♣ 10 when the table was approached.  Hui was all-in for 45,600, and would be in line to cross the century mark, pending his pocket aces held up.  The turn and river would both run out clean for Hui, who chipped up to 108,000 in the hand, and left Hader with less than ten bigs.

Hui has an incredibly decorated tournament resume, with (95) recorded results since 2009, totaling over $1,345,000 in earnings.  While he does has some near final table misses here at the Isle Poker Room, Phillip is without a significant result in this poker room.  Having moved to Florida with his longtime girlfriend Loni Harwood, it's likely just a matter of time before Hui makes a deep run in a major event at the Isle.

Players are approaching their final break of the night, with some new names climbing up the leaderboard:

Joshua Jay - 160,000
Jonathan Borenstein - 145,000
AJ Gambino - 130,000
Andres Morales - 128,000
Jake Ozyman - 125,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Abbey Daniels Looking To Continue Successful Series For The Ladies

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 164
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 76

Abbey Daniels (Coral Springs, FL)

After this 2017 Florida State Poker Championship series wraps up, there will be a handful of story lines to look back on.  One of the standouts is the success of the ladies this year, with Diane Linke (Delray Beach, FL) heading a nine-way chop of Event #7 ($360 No Limit Hold'em $200,000 GTD), a  deal that included three other women.  Nancy Thomas, Megan Endres, and Abbey Daniels all earned their respective share from the deal, with Daniels taking home $16,943.

Even though Abbey has over $600,000 in earnings, the cash she earned from Event #7 was the third largest of her career (a testament to consistency over time).  Daniels is well-known in the Florida community for her final table finish at the $10,000 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event during the 2011 SHRPO ($286,819).  Abbey is one of three ladies left in this Flight 1B, and happens to be doing the best of the trio:

Abbey Daniels - 155,000
Danielle Bastarache - 47,000
Loni Harwood - 24,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Pretty Sick Runout For Biancone

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 162
Flight 1B Players Remaining: 83

Patrick Biancone (Arcadia, CA)

The timing couldn't be better, as we passed a hand at Table 7, with three players all-in.  Kevin Scarola, Patrick Biancone, and A. Nonymous, got their chips in on an A♠ J 10♣ flop.  Scarola and A. Nonymous both flopped the joint (K Q and K♠ Q♠ respectively), with Biancone flopping two pair.  The turn would pair the board with the J, and while it wasn't quite the winning runout players expected, a third jack (J♠) fell on the river.

Biancone would make a full house the hard way, and eliminate A. Nonymous, while leaving Scarola with just 2,000 in chips.  Patrick was all-in for 65,000, and would come out of the hand with just over 165,000.  Biancone's poker career began in California, and continued that way until two years ago, when he moved to Florida.  The veteran has amassed over $100,000 in live tournament earnings, including a win on May 10th, when he took down a $100 No Limit Hold'em event on the Isle Poker recurring schedule ($920).

Patrick now joins a group of players looking to become the first to eclipse 200,000:

Ryan Gianquitti - 180,000
Maurice Hawkins - 163,000
Alex Haber - 147,000
AJ Gambino - 145,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Updated Chip Counts Before Dinner

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/75)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 152

Michael Chiappetta (Boca Raton, FL)

Players are at the midway point of Level 7, and will be heading to dinner (60 minutes) at the level's conclusion.  The dinner break will last from approximately 6:15pm-7:15pm, with live coverage resuming once the cards are back in the air.  Until then, we will leave you with some updated counts from the field, tallied just moments ago.

Maurice Hawkins - 105,000
Ryan Gianquitti - 100,000
Michael Chiappetta - 88,000
Tom Gity - 76,000
Ian Cohen - 70,000
Ian O'Hara - 70,000
Chris Bolek - 66,000
Danielle Bastarache - 64,000
Ricardo Eyzaguirre - 63,000
Joseph Couden - 60,000
Stephen Smith - 57,000
Sebastian Kos - 45,000
Joshua Kay - 44,000
Chad Eveslage - 32,000
Philip Hui - 30,000
Loni Harwood - 11,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Taking The Safe Route On The River

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 6 (Blinds 250/500/75)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 146

Ryan Gianquitti (Lake Worth, FL)

At Table 10, Ryan Gianquitti opened pre to 1,200, with Bradley Hinson flatting the button.  After the small blind folded, Derrick Cutler three-bet to 4,000 from the big, with Gianquitti and Hinson making the call.  The three watched as the dealer fanned out a 3 6♠ 5 flop, with Cutler continuing with a 5,000 bet.  The two players both called once again, and after the board paired with the 3♣ on the turn, Cutler decided to check.  Ryan then put out of bet of 7,100, which was called by Hinson, and elicited a fold from Cutler. The river would bring the 8, and instead of going for what he thought would have been thin value, Ryan decided to check.  Hinson checked back, and watched Gianquitti roll over Q Q.

The pocket queens would be good to take down the 43,000 chip pot, allowing Ryan to chip up to just over 87,000.

Ryan Gianquitti - 87,400
Bradley Hinson - 20,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Flight's Pool Pushing $200k, Satellite Reminder

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 6 (Blinds 250/500/75)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 144

Flight 1B players are currently on their second break of the day, and will return to play another pair of levels, before heading on a (60) minute dinner break (after Level 7).  To this point in the day, there have been (144) entries, which equates to $194,400 towards the prize pool.  Combined with the numbers from yesterday, it brings the total Event #20 pool to over $362,000.  With tomorrow's flight expected to attract close to (200) entries, we are looking at a final prize pool close to $600,000.

For those players still interested in trying to satellite into this event, there is one final event this evening ($175 No Limit Hold'em), guaranteeing (10) seats into tomorrow's Flight 1C.  Action gets underway at 6:00pm, with registration open through Level 8.

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Certain Things You Never Forget

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 125

Jonathan Borenstein (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

I have been covering poker in some capacity since 2004, but the first time I every worked an entire series was in 2011, when Parx Casino ran their first every major series.  The "Parx Open Classic" opened with a $300 No Limit Hold'em event, which attracted (479) entries, and a $139,389 prize pool.  Finishing sixth place in that event was a 21-year old Jonathan Borenstein, who collected $6,670...his first ever recorded score on Hendon Mob.

Fast-forward now six years, Borenstein is coming off of a WPT 500 Main Event win during the Aria Poker Classic, worth $230,000.  It stands as Jon's largest live tournament score, and helps bring his total earnings just under $1,000,000.  What's most impressive about all of the numbers, is the fact that Borenstein didn't record a score from that date in 2011, until July of 2014.  So he's managed to reach close to $1,000,000 in earnings, in just three years.

Jon is one of the most recent entries into the field, joining other big names like Philip Hui and Hanz Winzeler.

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Hawkins Doing What He Knows Best

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 4 (Blinds 150/300/50)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 114

Maurice Hawkins (Plantation, FL)

Maurice Hawkins (Plantation, FL) may not consider the Isle Casino Poker Room his "home room," but it sure does pile on results each time he plays in an event.  Hawkins is coming off a final table finish in Event #20 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em), his thirteenth recorded final table cash in this room alone.  Maurice has four major Isle Poker titles to his name, and is looking to put himself in best position to make a run towards another.  After arriving fashionably late, Hawkins has managed to turn his 30,000 unit starting stack into 118,000, which leads the field.

While it's still far from Danny Shiff's end of Flight 1A stack (535,600), Maurice has over (390) big blinds at this point of the day.  Posted below are updated counts from the field, tallied just after break:

Maurice Hawkins - 118,000
Matthew Chiappetta - 75,000
Derrick Cutler - 64,000
Joseph Couden - 60,000
Kevin Scarola - 58,000
Chad Millward - 35,000
Chris Bolek - 30,000
Joshua Beckley - 30,000

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Utnage Is Going To Hold Off On That Re-Entry

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 100

Anthony Utnage (Bloomington, IN)

There was a hand that we passed by earlier that seemed pretty routine, as Tony Utnage (Bloomington, IN) was super short, and all-in against Joshua Lowing.  Utnage was down to (15) big blinds, and held A 7 against the A 9 of Lowing.  Utnage would end up turning a four to double up, keeping him from having to make his way to the registration cage.

Moments ago, Tony was all-in pre once again, this time against Jacquelyn Scott.  It would be a race, with Tony's 6 6♠ a coin flip against Scott's A J.  It was an action flop for both, as the dealer fanned out J♠ 5 6, followed by the A♠ on the turn.  Tony needed to fade Scott's thirteen outs to double up once again, asking the dealer to peel the river a slow as possible.  While the slow motion effort wasn't much of a success, the river fade was for Utnage.  He'd double to over 13,000, turning his (15) big blind stack into (75) bigs.

Utnage may not be a name that followers of the blog recognize, but that's most likely because he's not from Florida.  Tony has over $500,000 in career tournament earnings, including a career highlighting 9th place finish in the $10,000 WPT Five Diamonds Main Event ($107,418).

Players are currently on their first break of the day, and will be returning to Level 4, and new blinds of 150/300/50 (33,500 chip average).

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Gambino Coming Off Career Year

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 90

AJ Gambino (Royersford, PA)

There has been a rush of entries over the past thirty minutes, consisting of players that were here yesterday, along with those sitting down for the first time.  AJ Gambino (Royersford, PA) is one of those firing his first shell in this event, with his last tournament appearance ending in a Main Event final table (2016 Isle Poker Open).  Gambino finished third in that $1,500 NLH Championship Event, earning $63,225 for his finish.  That cash was one of his two big scores from 2016, with the other coming during the WSOP summer.  AJ reached the final table of the $1,600 MSPT Event #48 during the DeepStack Extravaganza at the Venetian.  His fourth place finish would be worth over $119,000, and helped make 2016 his best statistical year of tournament poker ($297,841 in total earnings).

Some other players that were in the group of late arrivals include:

Chad Eveslage
Ryan Ricci
Sebatian Kos
John Depersio
Alexandre Fradin
Ira Silverman
Bradley Hinson
Michael Tait
Nicholas Mahabee
Frederico Dabus

FSPC Main Event (Flight 1B): Nassetta All Smiles, Putting Last Hand Behind Him

2017 Florida State Poker Championships
Event 20 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em ($500,000 GTD)
Level 2 (Blinds 75/150/25)
Total Flight 1B Entries: 74

Keith Nassetta (Boca Raton, FL)

One of the greatest things about tournament poker is the fact that there is "always tomorrow."  Whether it's a game with friends, online at home, or in a brick and mortar casino...poker tournaments are always available.  That allows for players to quickly put certain things behind them, like the hand Keith Nassetta (Boca Raton, FL) experienced last night, late in Flight 1A.

During the final level of play for the flight, Nassetta looked to be in great shape to double up to chip average.  He was all-in and at risk against Justin Fawbush, but held middle set, against Justin's bottom set.  Justin had only one out heading to the river, but in crushing fashion for Nassetta, would hit that card on the river.  Fawbush made quads to rip the hand away from Nassetta, who was left shaking his head as he exited the poker room.

Nassetta is back in the field now, and happens to be all smiles, despite the unfortunate spot he ran into.  The field is currently full of Isle Poker notables, many of which we see on an everyday basis, during the monthly recurring schedule:

Robert Transue
Tom Gity
Paula Alibrandi
Ian Cohen
Chad Millward
James Hamburger

Along with those that are in attendance for primarily the major events on the schedule:

Maurice Hawkins
Kevin Scarola
Casey Kaplan
Andrew Touchette
Joseph Couden
Daniel Pearlman

Danielle Bastarache (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Last night's $175 No Limit Hold'em Super Satellite into this $1,500 FSPC Main Event was guaranteeing (10) seats, but ended up awarding (11) plus cash.  The tournament went well past midnight, so it's no surprise that we haven't spotted any of those winners in today's field just yet.  Players had the choice of playing today or tomorrow (Flight 1C), which is the reason behind Danielle Bastarache's attendance this early afternoon.  Danielle was one of the winner's of Wednesday night's $175 Super Satellite, and is looking to parlay that seat into a potential six-figure score.

Listed below are the satellite winners from last night's $175 NLH Super Satellite:

Michael Rizzuto

Jonathan Ounjian
Jonathan Gold

Players are taking their seats at their respective tournament tables, as Tournament Director Ralph Brandt goes over the rules for the day.  Today's flight is a mirror image of yesterday, in regards to structure and schedule, as players sit down to starting stacks of 30,000 units.  Levels are (50) minutes throughout the flight, and will transition to (60) minutes when Sunday's Day 2 begins.  Registration is open throughout the flight, and will continue to stay open until the first card is in the air on Sunday (12:00pm).

The Main Event's opening flight finishing with (125) entries, and (30) players successfully bagging chips for Day 2 (a full list of chip counts will be re-posted shortly).   Everyone is looking up a Danny Shiff (Orlando, FL), and will likely continue to do so, as he bagged a number that is almost unfathomable (535,600).  The Day 2 chip average after one flight is 126,000, with ten players bagging over that amount from Flight 1A, including Michael Amato, Joel Gossett, Tracy Scala, Scott Hart, and Michael Perez).

The field was full of notable players yesterday, with that trend sure to continue over the next (48) hours.  Florida has become one of the most popular destinations for poker pros to call home, so it will be interesting to see who enters the room as play continues on today.  Once the tournament area fills up a little more, we will bring you the first look at players in this Flight 1B field.

Friday, July 28th: FSPC Main Event Started Strong, Continues On Today

ICYMI: Yesterday was the opening flight of the 2017 Florida State Poker Championships $1,500 Main Event, with a total of (125) entries making up the field.  That total equates to $168,750 towards the overall prize pool, which is guaranteed to be $500,000.  The first flight is most always the smallest when it comes to multi-day tournaments, so that half-million guarantee should be in the rear-view mirror at some point tomorrow morning.

The field was more of a "who's who" when it comes to the Florida poker community, with names like Ian O'Hara, Dominique Mosley, Joshua Kay, Jake Schwartz, Joey Couden, Daniel Pearlman, and Anthony Astarita in action (just to name a few).  We also saw some winners from earlier in the series looking to parlay they scores, with Diane Linke (Event #7 winner) and Alexandre Fradin (Event #14 runner-up) playing in the flight, but unsuccessful in bagging chips.

The day belonged to Danny Shiff (Miami, FL), who assumed the flight's chip lead during Level 6, and never looked back.  While players across the field did their best to draw closer to Shiff, he seemingly pulled away every time it mattered.  Shiff ended up bagging an astounding Day 2 stack of 535,600, which will be over (223) big blinds when play resumes on Sunday (12:00pm).  To put things in perspective, the player who bagged second in chips (Michael Amato), put just over 298,000 in the bag to end the night.

Other players to bag chips for Sunday's Day 2 included Salomon Cohen (264,700), Al Schein (175,000), Austin Peck (153,800), satellite winner William Underdown (132,700), Justin Fawbush (109,300), and Jake Schwartz (45,600).

Tournaments: This afternoon marks the second starting flight of the FSPC $1,500 Main Event, with the cards getting in the air at 12:00pm.  In mirroring yesterday's structure, players will sit down to starting stacks of 30,000 units, and levels lasting (50) minutes in length (those will transition to 60 minutes on Day 2).  Registration is open throughout the flight, including on Day 2, until the first cards are in the air.

This evening is also the final satellite of the series, with the $175 Super Satellite into the Main Event kicking off at 6:00pm.  There are (10) seats guaranteed, but from what we've seen the past few days, a couple more could be available once registration closes.

Promotions: The weekend kicks off with a day that's full of bonus high hands, starting the moment the doors open.  From 9:00am-12:00pm, $100 will be awarded every (10) minutes to qualifying high hands, with rollovers.  This promotion is very exciting, as we've seen rollovers that are worth between $500-$1,000 on a consistent basis.

That period is followed by some "richer" high hands, with $250 awarded every (20) minutes from 12:00pm-4:00pm, and $500 awarded every (20) minutes from 4:00pm-12:00am.  Rollovers apply with this promotion as well, but with so many tables in play, it's not something that happens as often.

- Players start with 30,000 in tournament chips
- Late and re-entries for the first (12) levels, to include before the 1st card on Day 2
