Breakdown of attendance

There have been many mentions made about the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool for this event, and whether or not this tournament will get the numbers to reach said guarantee.  The chart to the left shows a breakdown of each flight up to this point, including how many re-entries there were, as well as players remaining at the end of the flight.  

The numbers may have started off slow, but other than the transition from Flight 1B to Flight 1C, things have steadily increased as the flights passed.  With only two flights remaining in the event coming into today, the number for each flight was (161) to reach the guarantee.  There are currently (158) in this opening flight of the day, and with two more levels of open registration, we should eclipse (161) pretty easily.  Things will come down to the final flight of the event, which is a pattern we haven't seen during these seasonal series, but we have to consider the number of other tournaments currently going on in the area.

Once registration closes (once the first card is in the air for Level 9) for this flight, we will have an exact number of entries needed for Flight 1H, and we can also focus on the action across the field.

As we wind down this year's installment of the Isle Poker Classic (after a year's hiatus), we can begin to look forward to the next "series" on the calendar.  The 2017 "Battle At The Beach" schedule offers a total of (17) events over the course of three weeks.  The three highlighting events of the series offer guarantees of $125,000 (Event 1), $200,000 (Event 8), and $500,000 (Event 14).  Over the course of the series, there will be (68) seats given away to the championship event via satellite, and two non-no limit hold'em events (Omaha 8B). Overall, this series boasts a total of $1,000,000 in guarantees, and is surely going to be something you want to circle on the calendar!

Edgard Mendes (Miami, FL)

It's a very fitting title for a player nicknamed "Corona," as he is usually seen seated at the table with his trademark bottle of Corona.  Mendes is a staple at tournaments here at the Isle Poker Room, and has amassed a pretty impressive resume.  Mendes has over $55,000 in career (recorded) earnings, a good portion of which came from his deep run in the championship event of the 2015 Isle Poker Classic (5th Place - $26,750).  Edgard has already recorded one cash this series, reaching the final table of Event 6 ($100 NLH Monster Stack), and finishing in 8th place ($222).  Mendes headlines our second wave of notables in the field, which includes the likes of:

Curtis Daye (Miami, FL)

Curtis Daye (Miami, FL) was primed to make a deep run last week in Event 10, finding himself one of the chip leaders as the field reached the money.  The only problem that day, Curtis couldn't stop getting involved in hands with Luke "Big Money" Rosenberg, who was just steamrolling the early to middle stages of Day 2.  While Daye rebuilt his chip stack a few times, he would eventually fall at the hands of Rosenberg, and would earn his first recorded Hendon Mob cash (45th Place - $192).

The penultimate flight of Event 16 is about to get underway in the poker room.

Tournament Director Ralph Brandt just made the rules announcement to the players in the Flight 1G field, and the cards are now in the air.  While the start is similar to the flights that came before, you can expect for this field size to grow exponentially over the next few hours.  As mentioned earlier, both flights on today's schedule need to average (161) entries (per) in order to reach the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.  If last night's Flight 1F field size (152) is a sign of things to come, then we should have no problem attaining those numbers.  As players continue to fill the tournament area, we will take an initial look at those in the field, will live updates beginning shortly.

Saturday, January 21st: Saturday's Alright For Flighting

As expected, Friday's flights of Event 16 had close to double the amount of the two days prior.  A total of (246) entries took a shot at bagging chips for Sunday's Day 2, with (40) players successfully doing so.  The Flight 1E chip leader was Craig Schlesinger (Nashville, TN), who leads the entire Day 2 field with 409,000.  Flight 1F had the largest field of the six played to this point, attracting a total of (152) entries.  When the bagging process began, it would be Diego Silva Peres on top of the leaderboard, putting away 368,000 for Sunday.

Today is the final opportunity for players to try and join the Day 2 field, which has (92) members to this point.  "Live blog coverage" of Flight 1G will begin just after the first level of the day is completed, and will continue through the bagging process.  Today's flights each need to average (162) entries in order to reach the $100,000 guarantee, which should be more than attainable.  At one point it seemed as if there would be an overlay for this event, but as we've seen time and time before, the Isle Poker Room faithful always come out for a great value.

Flight 1E ended just moments ago, with Craig Schlesinger (Nashville, TN) bagging the chip lead with over 350,000.  Things were very close between Schlesinger and Sandy Sanchez, but Craig won a big race against Jaime Weigrete, to eliminate Weigrete from the field and scoop an 80,000 chip pot.  Players are now breaking down their stacks, and once the count have been made official, a published post with the counts will be made.

Howard Foster (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Passing by Table 6, a hand was unfolding between Howard Foster (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Michael Weinberg, and Darel Casuasqui.  On the flop of K♣ 3♥ J♥, Foster checked, followed by Weinberg betting out 3,500.  Both Foster and Casuasqui called, and the three players would watch as the board paired with the K♦ on the turn.

This time it would be Foster and Weinberg checking to Casuasqui, who would place forward a bet of 6,200.  Foster quickly pushed forward his stack of remaining chips (18,700), with Weinberg folding behind.  The decision was back on the field chip leader, who would take some time before acting, seemingly knowing he was behind.  Casuasqui tossed in the chips for a call, and the hands would be tabled.

Foster held a slight lead, holding K♥ 10♣, against the K♠ 4♠ of Casuasqui.  Darel needed to hit a four on the river to win the pot, and in order to chop, a card higher than 10 (or the board to pair a second time).  The river brought the 9♣, and Foster would earn the double, chipping up to 50,000.  Casuasqui took a small hit to his chip stack, and now sits with just over 70,000.

Frank Traino (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Walking past Table 11, Frank Traino (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Joe Niblett would be heads-up, on the turn with a board reading K♣ 10♠ 8♣ 5♥.  With over 15,000 already in the pot, Traino would check to Niblett, who tossed forward his remaining 15,200.  Traino thought for a few moments before calling the pot sized bet, putting Niblett at risk.

Niblett turned over 10♣ 10♦, but his set was at risk against the A♣ 5♣ of Traino, who needed a club to steal the hand away.  The river would bring the 7♣, and Traino's flush would give him the pot, and an early chip lead (with over 70,000).  Niblett quickly headed over to the tournament cashier, and is already back in the field.

Sandra Meyer (Weston, FL)

Sandra Meyer (Weston, FL) may not be a name familiar to followers of the blog, but to those players that frequent the daily tournament schedule, she's a name/face that they would recognize.  Meyer has (9) recorded results on her tournament resume, with live earnings totaling $6,592.  Those numbers are going to be a little skewed for a player like Meyer, who finds herself playing more "daily events" than she does "series" events.  The results of those daily events weren't always submitted to Hendon Mob, so while her resume shows no cashes for 2016, one would be hard fetched to think that Sandra didn't reach the money in any tournament over the course of the year.

Zakarya Wolgamott (Columbus, OH)

Most tournament players will tell you, one of the hardest things to do is find a bag when playing these multi-flight events.  Making the right decisions deep in a tournament, and final table play are also pretty difficult tasks to master, but a players can't even get to that point without finding themselves a Day 2 bag.  Zakarya Wolgamott (Columbus, OH) was in yesterday's afternoon flight, but was unsuccessful in bagging chips for Sunday.  Wolgamott already has one cash in this series, finishing 56th in Event #10 ($60 No Limit Hold'em), and cashing for $153.

Tournament director Ralph Brandt has made the rules announcement for the field, and the cards are in the air for Flight 1E of Event 16.  The flight's field consists of over fifty entrants to start the day, with some faces here for the first time, and others returning for a second or third time to try and find a bag.  Finding a bag is what it's all about over the next (48) hours, as players try and join the (52) names already on their way to Sunday's Day 2.

Yesterday's action saw the return of Washington Gavilanes, the 2016 Isle Poker Open Event #1 winner, making his way to the blog for the first time since his winner's photo was taken.  While some new faces were welcomed to the blog, it was Isle Poker regular Michael Hefley (Boynton, FL) who bagged the Flight 1C chip lead (334,000).  It would be another familiar name to bag the evening flight's chip lead (Flight 1D), as Daniel Cruz tossed 378,000 into his Day 2 bag.

The tournament field needs to average (142) per flight for the next two days in order to reach the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, and today's start is a good sign that the number will be reached as the flight's wind down.

Friday, January 20th: Weekend Warriors Continue With Event 16 Flights

After two days (and four flights), Event 16 has attracted a total of (302) entries, bringing the current prize pool up to $34,730.  The flight chip leaders from yesterday's action were Michael Hefley (Flight 1C), who bagged 334,000, and Daniel Cruz (Flight 1D) with 378,000.  Cruz's stack is currently leading the field of (52) players that have already punched their tickets to Sunday's Day 2.  Today's tournament schedule sees two more Event 16 flights, with action getting underway at 11:00am.  "Live blogged" coverage of Flight 1E will begin just after 12:00pm.

As Flight 1C enters its final stages, Michael Hefley (Boonton, NJ) has emerged as the flight's chip leader, currently sitting with over 260,000.  The tournament clock will be paused with 10:00 minutes showing on the clock, and those still left in the flight will play four hands, before bagging up for Sunday's Day 2.  Once the tournament staff verifies the player's counts, a list of Flight 1C chip counts will be posted shortly thereafter.

As we wind down this year's installment of the Isle Poker Classic (after a year's hiatus), we can begin to look forward to the next "series" on the calendar.  The 2017 "Battle At The Beach" schedule offers a total of (17) events over the course of three weeks.  The three highlighting events of the series offer guarantees of $125,000 (Event 1), $200,000 (Event 8), and $500,000 (Event 14).  Over the course of the series, there will be (68) seats given away to the championship event via satellite, and two non-no limit hold'em events (Omaha 8B). Overall, this series boasts a total of $1,000,000 in guarantees, and is surely going to be something you want to circle on the calendar!
