Isle Open Event #1 (Flight 1A): Michael Eddy Wastes No Time, Finds Himself Atop The Leaderboard

While others arrived before the first hand was even dealt, Michael Eddy (Hollywood, FL) decided to join the action less than an hour ago...and is currently the flight's chip leader.

Michael Eddy (Hollywood, FL) entered Flight 1A just as Level 4 was beginning, and immediately introduced himself to the table.  Michael limped for (300) in his first hand (after three other players just called as well), with the player on the button going all-in for 1,000.  Both the blinds, and the original limpers made the call, giving Eddy too good of a price to fold.  He would make the call, and the table watched the dealer fan out a flop of K♦ 7♦ 4♥.  After action checked to Eddy, he fired out a bet of 3,500, to be called by two players.  The 10♦ then fell on the turn, and after the other active players checked, Eddy dumped in the rest of his stack (all-in for 15,500).  The small blind released his hand, leaving Michael just one player to get through, but his opponent wasn't so quick to release.  Following a few minutes in the tank, a call was made, and the three hands were exposed:

Eddy had turned the nine-high flush, but was still at risk, and needed to fade a diamond on the river.  He would do just that, and quickly turned his 20,000 unit starting stack, into over 50,000.

Towards the end of the level, Eddy's stack dipped a bit, but he'd get healthy very quickly.  After an all-in of 5,700, Nagui Yassa made the call, with Eddy shoving for 45,300.  Yassa took about three minutes before making the call, giving us the largest (early) pot of the tournament.

Isle Open Event #1 (Flight 1A): Not A Terrible Way To Breakout...O'Brien Looking To Continue Solid Form

Tournament poker is clearly not Harry O'Brien's (Port St. Lucie, FL) pastime, but he might start playing more often, after a six-figure score just two weeks ago.

"When you were coming over to take my picture, I thought you were going to focus on the guy next to me...he finished third in the main," Kenneth Bruno mentioned (after seeing his featured post on the blog).  The player next to him that he was referencing, was Harry O'Brien (Port St. Lucie, FL), who finished third in the WSOP Circuit $1,700 No Limit Hold'em Main Event (at Coconut Creek).  The result was worth $101,219, and while that's an eye-popping number, the is a little fact that makes it even that much more impressive.  That tournament cash was just the second of O'Brien's career, with his first coming in December of last year (during a $350 No Limit Hold'em "special" event at Hard Rock).

The scenario is so far-fetched, that we had to confirm with Harry, whether the results yield were in fact correct.  "It is possible that you only have two lifetime tournament cashes, one of which was the most recent result at the WSOP Circuit...or are we missing something," was the questioned posed to Harry.  He just looked up with a smile and said "yes," confirming what was seemingly a dream run for O'Brien.

Players will be taking their first break of the day at the end of this level, returning to Level 5, and new blinds of 200/400/400.

Jacquelyn Scott (Detroit, MI) can safely say that she is the only WSOP bracelet winner in this field...and likely many of the other tournament fields she plays in.

It's not often that a WSOP bracelet winner sits down in one of these "smaller" buy-in tournaments, but when they are in the field, we take note of it.  Jacquelyn Scott (Detroit, MI) has been featured on the blog numerous times in the past, but what followers may not know, is that she's the owner of a WSOP bracelet. During the summer of 2015, Scott bested a field of (795) entries in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em Ladies event (Event #53), earning herself $153,876 (along with the coveted piece of jewelry).  

Jacquelyn has since added numerous results to her tournament resume, but is still looking for that second title.  She has had nine final table finishes since the bracelet win, including one runner-up finish (in a $150 No Limit Hold'em $10,000 GTD here at the Isle), and now boasts career earnings of $268,024. She is one of the friendliest players you'll ever share the table with, and just happens to be one of the early notables in this Flight 1A field.

Kenneth Bruno (Lake Worth, FL) is just a few weeks removed from a deep run in the $1,700 No Limit Hold'em WSOP Circuit Main Event, recently hosted a Coconut Creek.

Kenneth Bruno (Lake Worth, FL) has been a tournament fixture at the Isle, for basically as long as we can remember.  Bruno epitomizes the "grinder" mentality, never throwing in the towel during events, and constantly turning around super short stacks into tournament cashes.  Now the script doesn't always play out that way for Bruno, who has an impressive resume to show, boasting earnings just over $224,600.  His most recent cash, which came during the WSOP Circuit $1,700 No Limit Hold'em Main Event (at Coconut Creek last month), happened to be the second largest of his career.  Kenneth just missed out on reaching the final table, as he finished in 12th place, which was worth $16,903.  Bruno's career highlighting score came just under a year ago, when he chopped up a $360 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD), taking home fourth place money in a six-way deal ($19,311).

The 2018 Isle Open kicked off just a few minutes ago, as the first Flight 1A hand was dealt of Event #1.  The $200 No Limit Hold'em event, which carries a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, will run through this Sunday (Day 2 at 12:00pm).  There are afternoon (11:00am) and evening (6:00pm) flights through Saturday, along with satellites into the tournament each day.

These opening flights are structured with 20,000 unit starting stacks, and levels that last (30) minutes throughout (and will continue to be 30 minutes through Day 2, and the conclusion of the tournament).  Registration is open through Level 8, allowing players to enter today's Flight 1A until approximately 3:20pm.

The opening events of these major series usually attract some of the largest fields on each schedule, and this event is expected to be no different.  Live blogged coverage will bring updates throughout the afternoon, as the first group of players look to bag chips for Sunday's Day 2 (and earn themselves a few days off).

ICYMI: Tuesday's tournament schedule began at 11:00am, with a $50 No Limit Hold'em Satellite Into Isle Open Event #1 ($200 No Limit Hold'em $100,000 GTD), which guaranteed five seats.  The satellite attracted (16) entries, with the players to have won seats listed below:

Tournaments: After a long wait, the 2018 Isle Open is finally upon us, as the day begins (at 10:00am) with a $50 No Limit Hold'em Satellite Into Event #1 ($200 No Limit Hold'em $100,000 GTD), which has a (3) seat guarantee.  The satellite is structured with 8,000 unit starting stacks, (20) minute levels, and registration that lasts eight levels.

As the satellite is playing out, Flight 1A of Event #1 begins, with the cards getting in the air at 11:00am.  The opening event of the series is a $200 No Limit Hold'em, which boasts a very healthy $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.  There are eight flights over the next four days, with players that bag chips returning on Sunday (at 12:00pm) for Day 2.  Each of the flights are structured with 20,000 unit starting stacks, levels that last (30) minutes, and registration that is open through Level 8 (and the break that follows).  Play is scheduled to conclude after Level 16, or when the field reaches the 10% mark, whichever happens first.

ICYMI: Friday kicked off the weekend with two tournaments, totaling a combined $8,000 in guarantees.  The afternoon event was an $80 No Limit Hold'em tournament, which carried with it a $3,000 guarantee.  After eight levels of open registration, the field would close with (55) entries, and an official prize pool of $3,555 (after optional add-ons were included into the number).  Seven spots were scheduled to get paid, and after the money was reached (and one player was eliminated), a six-way deal was agreed to.  Marc Roth (Plantation, FL) took first place money in the deal ($833), with the official results from the tournament listed below:

ICYMI: Wednesday's tournament action kicked off at 11:00am, with an $80 No Limit Hold'em event, which carried a $2,500 guaranteed prize pool.  The posted number would be eclipsed just as registration was closing, as the optional add-ons brought the official prize pool to $2,623.  Of the (39) entries in the tournament, seven ended up reaching the money, as players agreed to a deal at the final table.  Official results from the afternoon event are listed below:

ICYMI: 2018 Isle Open Schedule Released, $1,500 NLH Main Event The Headliner

Players have been eagerly awaiting the release of the 2018 Isle Open schedule, which is proudly posted above.  The fourteen-event series runs from October 3rd through October 30th, and is headlined by a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Main Event, which boasts a $300,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Outside of the main event, there are three other tournaments with six-figure guarantees, beginning with Event #1.  The opening event of the series is a $200 No Limit Hold'em ($100,000 GTD) multi, with eight total flights, which run from October 3rd (Wednesday) through October 6th (Saturday).  The players who bag chips for Day 2 will then return on Sunday (October 7th), with the event scheduled to play down to a winner.

The other multis during the series are Event #3 ($100 No Limit Hold'em $100,000 GTD), and Event #6 ($360 No Limit Hold'em $100,000 GTD).  Some new additions to the schedule include a $1,000 8-Game Mix (H.O.R.S.E., NLH, PLO, 2-7 Triple Draw), and an $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Six-Max.  The $2,500 No Limit Hold'em (8-Max) sees it's return to the schedule, a tournament that was introduced as a "single-day turbo" last year (before single-ante events were all the rage).

Wednesday, September 26th: McGrath Heads A Five-Way Chop Of The $25,000 GTD, As We Roll On With The "New Early Bird" Full House Promotion

ICYMI: Tuesday's tournament action began at 11:00am, with an $80 No Limit Hold'em event, which boasted a $2,500 guaranteed prize pool.  The trend of larger afternoon tournament fields continued, as registration closed with (36) entries, and an official prize pool of $2,500.  A total of five players were scheduled to reach the money, and after Nelson Pacheco (Pompano Beach, FL) was eliminated in fifth place, the final four players agreed to a deal.  Ahsron Ragoonanan and William Reich each took $653, with the former being awarded the "first place" spot.  Official results from the event are listed below:

ICYMI: The third week of September started with a $80 No Limit Hold'em event (11:00am), that boasted a $2,500 guaranteed prize pool.  What we ended up seeing, was one of the largest afternoon fields in a long while.  A total of (51) entries showed on the tournament clock at registration's close, and after the optional add-ons were included into the prize pool, it would officially close at $3,427.  There would be seven players scheduled to reach the money, and after the "in-the-money" eliminations of Allan Werner and John Joffey, the remaining five players would agree to a deal.  Michael Dotson earned first place money in the chop, and would walk away with $817.  Official results are listed below:
