Since grabbing an early chip lead a few hours ago, John Page managed to keep himself hovering around that 100,000 mark.  Page was involved in a hand minutes ago, which was caught on the turn, as Michael Tufaro was shoving all-in on a board of J♦ 5♥ Q♣ 10♦.  There was 30,000 in the pot, which was just above Tufaro's shove of 28,800.  A third player in the hand folded, leaving Page to decide his next course of action.  He'd make the call after finding out the exact chip count, and would be in a positive spot.  Both Tufaro and Page held Qx 9x, but Page's hand was suited (diamonds), and he'd be free rolling.  He called for a diamond just as the dealer burned, and after the A fell on the river, a boisterous Page pumped his fist in excitement.  Tufaro exited the table, while Page collected the chips, worth over 140,000.

Since returning from break as one of the chip leaders, Sean Shah spent the last level winning all of the chips.  He saw his stack of just under 100,000 turn into 190,000, and was showing a visible confidence mid hands.  Moments ago, after Shah opened the pot, Eric Piderit (Weston, FL) called behind from late position, with action folding to Ian Cohen in the big blind.  Cohen chose to three-bet to 13,000, and after a flat from Shah, Piderit four-bet shoved for just over 43,000.  Cohen, who was sitting with an effective stack of 103,000, called Piderit's all-in.  Shah was left to act, and after about a minute, pushed forward enough to put Cohen at risk.  It didn't take long before Cohen released his hand, and Piderit said to Shah, "How bad of shape am I?"

John Page (Wellington, FL) 

There was a small group standing around Table 1, including a tournament supervisor, who hinted to us that something big was going down.  There was a three-way all-in between Martin Markov, Stephen Smith, and John Page (pictured above).  The chips got in on the 9♠ 6♣ 5♠ flop, with Markov having both players covered:

Everyone had a little something on the flop, with Markov holding a flush draw, Page sitting with two-pair, and Smith having flopped the straight.  The turn would be the deciding moment in the hand though, as Page filled up, and left his opponents drawing dead.  Smith walked away from the table, while Page began to stack the pot, which was worth just over 90,000.  Martin was still left with chips after the hand, but is well below the 25,000 starting stack.

Sean Shah (Delray Beach, FL)

For followers of the blog, Sean Shah (Delray Beach, FL) is a player that really need no introduction.  He brings to the table one of the more impressive live tournament resume, with over $640,000 in career earnings.  Of his (81) recorded results on Hendon Mob, (28) of them are final table finishes, one of which was a runner-up finish in a WSOP event (2017 $565 Pot Limit Omaha - $117,531).  Just like John Palace (who was mentioned a few posts ago), Shah is off to an incredible 2017.  Sean has three tournament wins already, with one coming at Coconut Creek, and two at Hard Rock Hollywood.  He already has over $71,000 in earnings for the year, and seemingly primed for a solid WSOP run this summer.  Sean headlines the final look at notables for the flight, with the focus shifting to the action at the tables.

Nikolla Sinishtaj (Flushing, NY)

Just about a month ago, Nikolla Sinishtaj (Flushing, NY) was on the rail at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, watching his brother at the final table of the $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.  His brother Tony played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, an continued that play at the final table, which he would eventually win.  Tony Sinishtaj became a WPT Champion, earning $661,283, and giving his brother even more to strive for.  Nikolla has a lot of work to do in order to catch up to the $1,200,000 career earnings of his brother, but he's done well for himself, winning almost $30,000 in the last (10) months.  Nikolla's career highlighting score came here at the Isle Poker Room last year, when he was part of a six-way deal that finished the $140 No Limit Hold'em "Monster Stack" event ($200,000 GTD).  He would take home fourth place money, which was good for $15,331.

John Palace (Jupiter, FL) 

John Palace (Jupiter, FL) has a pretty solid live tournament resume, with (45) cashes totaling over $82,000.  Fifteen of those cashes are final table finishes, with one of them an outright tournament win, from an event during the Goliath Phamous Poker Series (Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas).  What really stands out about John's resume though, is the fact that he's already cashed (12) times this calendar year, which puts him (32nd) in the world...yes, the world.  These are "recorded" cashes on Hendon Mob, so any daily events that he's cashed at other properties are not listed.  Palace is looking to add another cash in this event, which would put him in the top twenty.  Palace's best year in terms of earnings was last year ($32,795), but he's only $6,000 behind that number already, with lots of time left to go in 2017.  John headlines the second wave of notables in the field, which consists of the following players:

Gyorgy Cseke (Tamarac, FL)

Gyorgy Cseke (Tamarac, FL) has a solid tournament poker resume, with over $34,000 in career earnings, including two titles here at the Isle Poker Room (2014 Isle Poker Open and 2016 Florida State Poker Championships).  Those accomplishments pale in comparison to what he's done in his "real" career, as a professional football player (soccer for those here in the states).

Cseke is originally from Hungary, where he had a (10) year career playing for professional clubs in his home country, before moving to the states to join the Storm F.C. (Florida based professional soccer club).  Injuries have kept Gyorgy from the pitch recently, but he's found a new passion in poker.  The last we saw Gyorgy was during the Battles At The Beach series, where he held the chip lead in the beginning stages of Day 2 of the $360 No Limit Hold'em Deep Stack event (Event 8).  Cseke would eventually finish in 41st place ($1,087), but he's back in the field today, looking to earn the Isle Poker Room "treble."  Cseke is joined in the field by a group of notables, including the likes of:

Tournament Director Ralph Brandt made the rules announcement just a few minutes ago, and the cards are in the air for the third of six flights for this $360 No Limit Hold'em Deep Stack $100,000 GTD.  As mentioned in an earlier post today, the prize pool is only $40,000 away from reaching the guaranteed number, and should surpass $100,000 at some point in the early evening.  Those looking to bag the chip lead are chasing David Lopez, who is returning on Sunday with 376,500.  

Today's coverage will start with a post that updates the full list of players already haven booked their tickets to Day 2, and will follow will coverage from the field (starting with the notables in the field).  Coverage will continue through the bagging process of this flight, followed by sporadic updates from the evening flight (Flight 1D).

Friday, April 28th: The "Multi-Flight Madness" Continues In The "April $100,000 GTD"

ICYMI: Yesterday was the opening day of the $360 No Limit Hold'em Deep Stack $100,000 GTD (otherwise labeled the "April $100,000 GTD"), and if was any sign of things to come, we are in store for an incredible tournament.  Between the two flights (Flight 1A and Flight 1B), there were (194) total entries combined, meaning that the prize pool ($59,170) is well over half of the way to the posted guarantee.  This $100,000 guaranteed tournament could actually turn into something more like $200-250,000 once tomorrow's final flight has concluded.

Of the (194) entries, a total of (27) players bagged chips for  Sunday's Day 2, with David Lopez (Pembroke Pines, FL) leading the way (376,500).  Lopez was the chip leader for Flight 1B, with Justin Levy (Coconut Creek, FL) grabbing that same honor for Flight 1A (328,000).  Some other notables to bag above average stacks included William Underdown (295,500), Raminder Singh (285,500), Tony Ruberto (201,500), and Jim Hamburger (184,500).

The action continues this afternoon with two more flights, the first of which is "live blogged," and begins at 12:00pm (Flight 1C).

Tournaments: The month of April has been pretty special in terms of tournament poker, with some huge turnouts, and massive prize pools over the last three weeks.  That being said, everything to this point has been leading up to the end of month $360 No Limit Hold'em Deep Stack tournament, which carries with it a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.  This is the first "multi-flight" tournament since the 2017 Battles At The Beach, with six total flights for players to choose from (an afternoon and evening flight from April 27th-29th).  A total of (328) entries are needed to reach the guaranteed number, which is easily attainable, and should be surpassed on the second day of tournament action.

To say that the tournament is a great value would be an understatement, as players are putting up $360, with the potential to take home a sizable five-figure score.  Beyond the value though, the actual structure of the tournament is something that needs to be talked about.  Players in the event sit down to starting stacks of 25,000 units, and play levels lasting (30) minutes on each Day 1 flight, transitioning to (50) minutes on Day 2.  There aren't many (if any) "skips" in the structure, offering those remaining in the later stages of the tournament some deep play.

All of the action from the event with be blogged live, with full coverage of the afternoon flights, recaps of the evening flights, and full Day 2 action (until the tournament concludes).

Promotions: Things start off "quickly" this afternoon, with the "Turbo High Hands" running from 9:00am-12:00pm.  During that window, $100 will be awarded every (10) minutes to the qualifying high hand (rollovers do apply).  The promotion will then transition to $250 every (20) minutes (rollovers do apply), from 12:00pm-4:00pm...laddering up one more time to $500 every (20) minutes (rollovers apply), from 4:00pm-12:00am.

Roy Paulena (West Palm Beach, FL) had been grinding an average stack for most of the day, but things changed moments ago, as he found a fortunate river to effectively double up.  The action was caught just as Paulena three-bet shoved (62,000), and was called by the original opener (who had just a few thousand less than him.  Paulena's A♥ Q♥ would be dominated by the A♦ K♥ of his opponent, and the 9♠ 9♦ J♥ flop wasn't exactly the help Roy was looking for.  He did gain outs to a chop, and then even more outs to a straight after the 8♠ on the turn, but it was still looking bleak as they headed to the river.   With Paulena standing up...ready to collect his belongings, the dealer placed down the 10♥ on the felt.  "That's so sick," Paulena said, as he tried to hold back a smile.  That only lasted a few moments though, as he burst into laughter, collecting the 130,000 pot.

Esther Foley (Tamarac, FL) watches as her pocket queens come from behind against pocket kings.

After Gunnar Rabe opened to 2,500 from early position, and was three-bet to 12,500, action was on Esther Foley (pictured above).  Foley was deep in the tank, taking a solid 4-5 minutes to decide on her action, which would eventually be to shove all-in (for over 70,000).  Poly had both players well covered that were also in the hand, and after Rabe folded, the three-bettor called for his remaining 20,000.

Foley would be in rough shape though, as her opponent flipped over K♣ K♦, well ahead of her Q♠ Q♥.  Everything would change on the Q♣ J♠ 7♦ flop though, as Esther flopped top set, and took a commanding lead with two cards to come.  The board paired on the turn (giving Poley a full house), and after the river came without a king, Esther would eliminate her opponent from this opening flight.  Foley is now over 100,000, and one of the chip leaders in the field.

In a tournament, sometimes is just takes one pot to turn an entire day around.  Joseph Duchman (Miami Beach, FL) got off to a very slow start, and after only four levels of play, was looking down at a stack that was less than 5,000.  He managed to get the maximum value out of his most recent hand though, as his all-in was called in four spots:

Peter Odiot (Hollywood, FL) 

The action at Table 6 was on the flop as we approached, with the board reading J♥ 3♥ 4♠.  After both Peter Odiot (small blind) and Jim Hamburger (big blind) checked, Vicki Holmes put out a bet of 5,125.  Both players made the call, and the three would watch as the dealer placed down the 8♣ on the turn.  Both blinds checked once again, and this time Holmes continued with a bet of 11,100.  Odiot once again made the call, leaving himself with less than 5,000 behind, while Hamburger folded behind.  The 9♥ fell on the river, completing a few different draws, with action going check-check to follow.  Odiot turned over 8♥ 8♠, having turned a set, which would be good enough to take down the pot.

"You're lucky to get some extra money out of me," Homles said to Odiot, "I threw out the wrong colored chips on the turn."  While it was only the difference of a few thousand, it's still "found money" for Odiot, who is now back over the chip average (which is currently 32,000)

The action at Table 7 was caught on the turn, as David Wolff and Joseph Durso heads-up, in what would turn out to be the largest pot of the flight.  With the board reading Q♥ 7♦ 2♠ 2♦, Durso would shove for 37,225 (which was almost three times pot).  Wolff had Durso covered, but was visibly unsure about his decision.  "Just give me another minute guys, I'm really sorry," Wolff expressed to the table as he continued thinking about his next move.  With Durso sitting back in his chair, Wolff gave a quick glance over before deciding to make the call:

The river would bring the 3, which sealed the hand for Wolff, and sent Durso to the rail.  Wolff collected the pot, putting him over 115,000, and making him the clear chip leader early in this flight.  Durso couldn't understand why Wolff took so long to make his decision, but you don't amass career earnings of $75,000 by not thinking things through.  Wolff already has three cashes this year, all during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, totaling close to $20,000.

Jean Chery (West Palm Beach, FL) 

Just two night ago, Jean Chery was at the final table of the "Tuesday $12k," a $60 No Limit Hold'em tournament with a $12,000 guaranteed prize pool.  Chery had already bested (353) entries to reach that point, and with five players remaining in the tournament, the deal-making discussing began.  After players looked at the numbers, they agreed on a chop, with Jean taking home second place money ($2,612).  It was Chery's largest recorded tournament cash to date, and brought his career earnings above the $10,000 mark.  The "Tuesday $12k" is clearly a tournament that Jean likes, as his largest tournament cash before this Tuesday night's, was a win in the event on March 9th ($2,546).  That event was run on a Thursday night, before the schedule shift that occurred this month (the "Tuesday $10k" and "Tuesday $12k" alternate weeks).  

Chery has already busted his first bullet in this flight, as his pair and a flush draw fell to the trips of his opponent in a 55,000 pot.  Jean has yet to re-enter this flight, but odds are very high that we will see him once again in this tournament.  Some other players to join the action late included:
