Fletcher McKinney (Winterhaven, FL)

The Flight 1C action has been pretty timid to this point, and with just over three tables remaining, it's surprising to have not seen some big stacks pop up across the field.  Fletcher McKinney (Winterhaven, FL) is the current chip leader, sitting with just over 140,000.  There are only two other players in the field above the 100,000 mark, but as we've seen time and time again, a lot can (and will) change over the last few levels of the night.

McKinney has a pretty impressive resume, with over $188,000 in live tournament earnings, all of which came prior to 2016.  Fletcher hasn't recorded a result since November of 2015, and you'd have to go back even farther to spot his last Isle Casino Poker cash (June of 2012).  Fletcher has three major scores that make up a good portion of his earnings, with his highlighting score coming in 2007.  McKinney would take home eighth place money in the 2007 $10,000 Main Event of the Gulf Coast Poker Championship (Beau Rivage, Biloxi), worth over $70,000.

The reason for the gap since his last cash in unknown, but it's clear that Fletcher is a name to look out for as this tournament continues on.

Carlos Fonseca (Florida)

The action at Table 9 would start with an open from a player in early position to 3,200.  Even Teitelbaum, Carlos Fonseca, and the player in the big blind would all make the call.  The dealer then fanned out a flop of 9♠ 9♦ 4♦, with the original opener continuing for 9,500.  Teitelbaum released his holdings pretty quickly, but Carlos Fonseca wasn't about to act as quickly.  He surveyed his stack, along with the stacks of the players in the hand, and eventually tossed forward a raise to 20,000.  After the big blind folded, action would be on the original raiser, who began to agonize over his decision.

"Do you have a good hand," the unknown player would ask Carlos, to which he gave little reaction.  About one minute later, A. Nonymous would dump his stack on the felt in front of him, leaving Carlos to call another four thousand.  He would announce the call, and after seeing his opponent's K♠ K♣, Fonseca would table 4♣ 4♠.  His flopped full house was well ahead, and he just needed to fade a king on the turn or river.  Things would run out clean for Carlos, who chipped up to 79,000 with the pot.

The cards are in the air for Level 9 (400/800/100), with registration now closed for Flight 1E.  The flight had a total of (99) entries, with half of that number returning from break.  Isle Poker tournament regular Tom Gity (Pompano Beach, FL) is currently leading the field with 90,000, looking to put last weekend behind him.  Gity was sitting comfortably during the middle stages of Day 2 ("August $150,000), only to get coolered (flush under flush), in a spot where it was very difficult to find a fold.  A deep run in this event would surely help lessen the sting, so a solid Day 2 starting stack is exactly what Tom is looking for. Posted below are updated chip counts from the field:

While taking the day off to recover from food poisoning sounded like a great idea, the interest of the blog followers was too high to stay away from Flight 1E.  "Live blogged coverage" is back for the remainder of the flight, as we jump right into the notables in the field that weren't mentioned earlier.  Karin Powsner (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Avi Levy (Coral Springs, FL) are in the field for the first time in this event.  Both players are Isle Casino Poker Room regulars, but each focus on different sides of the room.  Karin frequents many of the tournaments on the recurring schedule, while Avi could be found playing cash most everyday.  Some others that still remain active in the field as registration closes include:

The "second half" of the "August $100,000" opening flights began just moments ago, as cards got in the air for Flight 1E.  Over the course of the first four flights for the "August $100,000," there have been a total of (416) entries, with (58) players successfully managing to get chips in a bag.  The combined prize pool for the four flights sits at $47,840, which is just under half the way to the guarantee, but some large field sizes are expected for the weekend.

The chip average for the (58) players that are currently heading to Day 2 is 130,000, and with action resuming at the beginning of Level 16 on Sunday, that means an average stack will return with just over (30) big blinds.  The top five stacks after four flights belong to:

Friday, August 25th: Four Down...Four To Go, At The Halfway Point Of "August $100,000" Opening Flights

ICYMI: The second pair of opening flights for the "August $100,000" were played yesterday, beginning with Flight 1C at 11:00am.  Numerous notable players would choose the third starting flight to try and bag chips, including Joseph Couden, Marsha Wolak, Joseph Ritzie, David Gelley, and Thomas Gari.  Registration would close for the afternoon flight with a total of (97) entries, and after the full sixteen levels were played, (14) players would remain to bag chips for Sunday (Day 2).  Alberto Niebla (Miami, FL) bagged the flights chip lead with 281,000, close to 50,000 more than his nearest competitor (Tracy Scala - 234,500).

Flight 1D would follow at 6:00pm, and would end up being the largest flight of the four to have been played to that point (134 entries).  Matthew Ehrlich (Garden City, NY) would bag the flight's chip lead (296,000), heading a group of (17) players that are now returning for Day 2.  The field would reach the thirteen percent mark, with action for the night stopping late in Level 15 (with 10:30 minutes remaining).  While Ehrlich topped the leaderboard, the story from the flight was Paulius Bikus (Ft. Lauderdale, FL).  Bikus was cruising earlier in the day during Flight 1C, and was one of the top three stacks heading into the final pair of levels for the afternoon.  Paulius then went began to spiral downward, losing massive all-in pots, many in pretty rough fashion.  He'd go from over 200,000 to exiting the field in a matter of forty minutes, but would recover in Flight 1D to bag 248,500 (which is the sixth largest stack of the combined flights).

Tournaments: The second pair of "August $100,000" flights are on today's schedule, with Flight 1E getting underway at 11:00am, followed by Flight 1F at 6:00pm.  Both flights have the same structure, with players sitting down to starting stacks of 18,000 units, and playing levels that are (25) minutes in length.  To this point in the tournament, there has been a total of (416) entries, with (58) players having bagged chip from said starting flights.

Promotions: From the moment the doors to the poker room open, the "bonus" high hands are in effect.  Things start with the "Turbo High Hands," with $100 awarded to the qualifying high hand every (10) minutes.  With less tables in the morning hours, we usually see rollovers on a consistent basis, some of which get as high as $600-$700.  The ten minute high hands run from 9:00am-12:00pm, and then transition to a different promotion. 

Things are still "turbo-ish," with $250 high hands awarded every (20) minutes, from the hours of 12:00pm-4:00pm.  The promotion only gets richer after that, as one last transition sees $500 awarded every (20) minutes, from the hours of 4:00pm-12:00am.

Joseph Ritzie would open the action at Table 2 with a raise from late position to 2,600.  After one fold, Tom Macey (Chicago, IL) would put forward a three-bet to 8,600.  The player in the small blind made the call, with Thomas Gari four-bet shoving from the big for 38,000.  Gari's all-in would elicit a fold from Ritzie, with Macey taking little time to announce that he was all-in as well (59,000).

The unknown player in the small blind then went deep in the tank, which was clearly making Macey unhappy.  "You've been doing this all day...tanking forever, and then folding," Macey said, just moments before calling the clock.  A supervisor came over, and with about thirty seconds remaining in the countdown, the small blind folded pocket jacks face up.

Macey tabled A♥ A♠, and would be well ahead the K♠ Q♦ of Gari, who mentioned aloud that he misread his hand.  The A♣ Q♣ 4♣ K♥ 7♠ saw Gari drawing extremely thin after the flop, and he'd be drawing dead after the turn.  Thomas exited the tournament area, while the table continued discussion about the hand that just unfolded.

When Jeff Burdeen (Delray Beach, FL) was featured on the blog during last week's $360 No Limit Hold'em "August $150,000," the focus of the post was on his break from tournament poker.  The time away from the table was strictly to work on his game, as Jeff looked to basically "reintroduce" himself at the table, with a style and strategy that was unlike before.

While the results didn't show during last week's event, these type of changes usually take time to really work out.  It's like changing a golf swing...the first few times out on the course may yield some rough results, but it's an unexplainable feeling when everything clicks.  Burdeen is off to a quick start this afternoon, just knocking out an opponent to chip up to 73,000.

Geroges Boyadjian (Pompano Beach, FL) 

After an open at Table 1 to 1,000, and one call, Georges Boyadjian would also call from the cutoff.  Before his 1,000 unit chip hit the felt, the button went all-in for just over 10,000.  The blinds and original raiser folded, and after the player who flatted went all-in for less, Georges tossed in a chip for a call.

Boyadjian would turn over the best hand with A♥ Q♥, up against A♠ 10♣ (button) and 6♠ 4♠.  The dealer would then fan out a flop of J♠ 7♦ 3♠, with Boyadjian still holding the lead, but it was a slim one at that.  The turn brought the 6♥, making Georges a sizable underdog to win the main pot, but he would find the Q♣ on the river to steal a win.  "How do you find that river," one of the players at the table said, with Georges collecting the pot worth close to 30,000.  He's now up to 60,000, and happens to be one of the larger stacks in the field.

Joseph Couden (Coconut Creek, FL) is coming off of the Single-Day Series earlier in the week, and while he didn't cash in the event, he is still in the midst of a solid tournament year.  Couden has over $145,000 in live earnings in 2017, a majority of which came from his runner-up finish in the Battles At The Beach $1,500 Main Event (2nd Place - $120,000).

The Isle Casino Poker Room happens to be a place where Joseph has experienced some of his best results, with three of his top four cashes (in terms of amount) happening between these four walls.  Couden has over $1,300,000 in career earnings, spanning (86) results spread over nine years.  Interesting to note...if Joseph goes on to cash in this event, it will be his first ever (recorded) in a buy-in that's less than $200.

From 12:00pm-11:00pm yesterday, the "Spin To Win" high hand promotion was running, one of the most popular poker promotions you'll find in the state (as well as one of the richest).  The player with the "winning" high hand from each half hour is awarded an opportunity to spin the "money wheel," which sits located in the "stage area" of the poker room, closest to the cashier.  There are over (70) different slots on the wheel, all with different monetary amounts.  The "major" amounts that can be won are $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, and $5,000.  If (and only if) the high hand that qualifies is a royal flush, the $5,000 "Jackpot" slice is worth $25,000.  Posted below are all of the results from yesterday's promotion (along with the game the player was playing):
