ICYMI: Wednesday's tournament action started (at 11:00am) with the $120 No Limit Hold'em "Big Stack Turbo Bounty," which had a $3,000 guaranteed prize pool.  After ten levels of open registration, the field would close with (40) entries, and a prize pool of $4,080 (including bounties).  While final table deals are commonplace during these recurring events, it's not often that we see what happened yesterday afternoon...and multi-way even chop.  Six players were part of the deal, all taking home $513, with the exception of Eric Lerner (who was the tournament's declared winner, and earned an extra two dollars).  The breakdown of the deal is listed below:

  1. Eric Lerner (Long Island, NY) $515
  2. Billy Hunt (Nashville, TN) $513
  3. William Catlett (Lisbon, OH) $513
  4. Michael Gariepy (Okachobee, FL) $513

  6. Renee Hunt (Nashville, TN) $513
An $80 No Limit Hold'em event with a $2,500 guaranteed prize pool then followed the "Big Stack Turbo Bounty," with it's action getting underway at 6:00pm.  (45) total entries would make up the field, with the official prize pool closing at $2,565.  There would be no deal making last night, as the tournament played down to an outright winner, with David Rauch (Pompano Beach, FL) taking home the honors (and $1,000).  Listed below are the full details from the final table:
  1. David Rauch (Pompano Beach, FL) $1,000

  4. Alex Eaton (Shaumburg, IL) $257
  5. Daniel Shortley (Lake Worth, FL) $205

Tournaments: The mixed-game crowd returns this afternoon, as the $130 Limit Omaha 8B Hi/Lo ($2,000 GTD) begins at 11:00am.  This event attracts a very nice crowd each time it runs, as players enjoy not only the variation from hold'em, but the solid structure.  Players in the tournament sit down to starting stacks of 12,000 units, and play levels that last (20) minutes over the course of the afternoon.

The evening time slot sees the return of the "survivor" to the recurring tournament schedule, but this time, it's very much a good value.  The tournament has a $100 buy-in, and guarantees that five players will walk away with ten times that amount ($1,000).  Structure wise, the event has starting stacks of 15,000 units, and levels that last (20) minutes.  There are a lot of reasons that players would want $1,000 at this time, so don't be surprised by a nice showing.

Promotions: From (9:00am-10:00am), the high hand will award $150 every (30) minutes.  The high hands will then transition from 10:00am-12:00am (midnight), with the opportunity to win $400 every (30) minutes.  During that period, the promotion sees tournament players eligible (Isle Open events not eligible for high hand) each half-hour for $100 high hands, 2/2 limit hold'em players eligible for $200 high hands, 2/4 limit hold'em players eligible for $300 high hands, and all other raked games (1/2-5/10 NLH, 4/8 Omaha 8B, 6/12 O.E., etc.) eligible for $400 high hands.  From 12:00am-9:00am, players are eligible for $100 high hands every hour.

It should also be noted that started back on November 1st, players are able to win the high hand using only one card in their hand!!!  The payouts for those that use one card are different than the standard numbers listed above, and can be found (full listing of one-card payouts on flyers in the poker room).

Monday, January 8th: Pulido And Levitt Chop "January $100,000," Returning To The Recurring Schedule

ICYMI: Yesterday afternoon, (63) players returned for Day 2 of the "January $100,000," a $360 No Limit Hold'em multi-day.  The tournament structure got great reviews from the players, who liked the pace at which the action moved along.  The field would reach the money just ninety minutes into the day, with players like Scott Zakheim (38th Place - $690), Gregory Spinder (29th Place), John Magnetta (24th Place), Paul Balzano (21st Place), and Adam Koppel (14th Place), all cashing in the tournament...but short of the final table.

Mark Salerno (Woodbridge, Canada) ended up bubbling the final table, one that would end up hosting numerous notable names.  There were four short stacks at the final table, all sitting with less than fifteen blinds, and all busting in succession (Al Gomez, Joshua Wasserman, Jose Parra, and David White).  It would then be to massive pots won by Francisco Pulido, that would change the outcome of the tournament.  First, Pulido would flop middle set on the Q♥ 9♠ 2♦ board, with Anthony Ruberto holding A♠ Q♣.  The two got all the chips in, and Pulido would end up eliminating Ruberto, while chipping up to over 3,000,000.  Then Pulido would hold an ace-high flush against the jack-high flush of Richard Kirsch, sending Richard to the payout podium.  Francisco held more than half of the chips in play, and after he eliminated Sheldon Gross...and Scott Levitt eliminated Jacabo Mugrabi, the two would end up heads-up.  No hands were dealt though, as they agreed to a deal, with Pulido the "declared winner" of the event.  The full results of the final table are listed below:
  1. Francisco Pulido (Pembroke Pines, FL) $26,500
  2. Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) $22,739
  3. Jacobo Mugrabi (Venezuela) $13,045
  4. Sheldon Gross (Hillsboro Beach, FL) $8,400

The was another tournament on the schedule for yesterday evening, a $100 No Limit Hold'em "Turbo Bounty," which had a $2,500 guaranteed prize pool.  The event attracted a total of (33) entries, and once the optional add-ons were included into the prize pool, the number would close at $3,336.  There would be no deal-making at the final table, as action played down to an outright winner.  Anthony Zambrowsky (Chandler, AZ) bested David Maddox (Boynton Beach, FL) to take down the $1,029 first place prize.

Listed below are the final numbers that the two players agreed to, with Francisco Pulido the event's "declared winner:"
  1. Francisco Pulido (Pembroke Pines, FL) $26,500
  2. Scott Levitt (Delray Beach, FL) $22,739

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Jacobo Mugrabi's Exit In 3rd Place ($13,045), Leaves Play Heads-Up

Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 485
Players Remaining: 2

Jacobo Mugrabi (Venezuela) was able to ladder a few spots with a pretty short stack, as he watched Richard Kirsch and Sheldon Gross bust out before him.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, as Jacobo Mugrabi was all-in just one hand after Sheldon Gross's elimination.  He was racing with 8♥ 8♣ agains the A♥ 10♠ of Scott Levitt, but would see Scott spike a ten on the flop, and hold through the rest of the runout.  Mugrabi's elimination would leave the event heads-up, with Scott Levitt and Francisco Pulido quickly making a deal.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Sheldon Gross Eliminated In "Gross Fashion," Exits In 4th Place ($8,400)

"January $100,000"
$360 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 485
Players Remaining: 3

Sheldon Gross (Hillsboro Beach, FL) looked prime to double up with bottom set, but watched his hand get counterfeited by the runout.

One would think, that with Pulido holding such a commanding chip lead, that the other three players would be very passive about getting it in.  Only two hands after Richard Kirsch's elimination, Sheldon Gross would double to 1,000,000 (through Jacobo Mugrabi).  Two hands after that, Gross would be all-in against Francisco Pulido, on a flop of 6♦ 2♦ 7♦.  Pulido held A♠ A♣, but Gross had flopped bottom set (2♠ 2♣), and was a turn and river away from closing the gap in a major way.  Unfortunately for Gross, the turn and river came out 6♥ 6♠, counterfeiting Sheldon's full house.  Sheldon pushed his chip forward in anger, and exited the final table.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Francisco Finishes What He Started, Eliminates Richard Kirsch In 5th Place ($6,475)

"January $100,000"
$360 No Limit Hold'em | $100,000 GTD
Level 27 (Blinds 25,000/50,000/5,000)
Total Entries: 485
Players Remaining: 4

Richard Kirsch (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was looking for back-to-back major tournament wins, but had to settle for a fifth place finish.
There was a hand at the beginning of the level that would basically set the tone for the rest of the tournament, as Richard Kirsch lost an over 1,500,000 chip pot to Francisco Pulido.  That pot meant that Pulido held more than half of the chips in play, and each hand would hold ICM implications for all of the short stacks.  Kirsch was left with just eight big blinds, and would call a button raise from Pulido, out of the big blind.  After the 5♥ 5♣ 2♠ flop, Kirsch announced himself all-in (for just over 200,000), and was called by Pulido.  Kirsch's Q♥ 8♠ was behind the A♠ 7♣ of Francisco, and when the A♦ came on the turn, Richard would be eliminated.  This was Kirsch's second final table in the last two weeks, and third in the past month.

Anthony Ruberto (Miami, FL) was in an unenvious spot, running into a set after flopping top pair.
The balance of power has shifted greatly, as Francisco Pulido assumed the final table chip lead moments ago.  In a raised pot, Pulido and Anthony Ruberto would see a flop of Q♥ 9♠ 2♦, with Francisco checking to Ruberto.  Tony placed forward a bet of 250,000, and after Francisco asked for a count, he announced that he was all-in (covering Tony).  Ruberto made the call, and watched Francisco table 9♥ 9♣, well ahead his A♠ Q♣.  The turn would leave Ruberto drawing dead, and he would push his remaining chips towards the middle of the table.  Pulido eclipsed the 3,000,000 mark with that pot, the first player to do that this event.

"January $100,000" (Day 2): Short Stacks Aren't Fairing Well, Jose Parra Out In 7th Place ($4,500)

"January $100,000"

Jose Parra (Hialeah Gardens, FL) was able to earn a few pay jumps with a super short stack, but couldn't hold while ahead against Sheldon Gross.

Just a few hands after the elimination of David White, Jose Parra (Hialeah Gardens, FL) was all-in for his final four big blinds, and called by Sheldon Gross.  Parra was ahead with A♣ 7♣ against K♥ 10♣, and was able to survive the flop, but had to watch as Gross spiked a ten on the turn to take the lead.  There would be no ace on the river for Parra, who departed the final table in seventh place ($4,500).

"January $100,000" (Day 2): David White Eliminated By Jacobo Mugrabi In 8th Place ($3,690)

David White (Boca Raton, FL) had only five cashes lifetime, and just earned his largest ever score with his final table finish.

David White (Boca Raton, FL) and Jose Parra were the short stacks at the final table, both sitting with less than ten big blinds.  White opened shoved for just over 350,000, with action folding around to Jacobo Mugrabi, who ended up making the call.  Mugrabi was in excellent shape, holding J♠ J♥ against the J♦ 10♦ of White.  David would eventually be drawing dead by the turn, and exited the final table in eigth place, collecting $3,690.

Joshua Wasserman (Deerfield Beach, FL) was hampered by a short stack for a majority of the afternoon, but managed to reach the final table despite that face.

After the elimination of Al Gomez, Joshua Wasserman (Deerfield Beach, FL) became the shortest stack at the final table.  His shove (for less than ten bigs) was called by both Sheldon Gross and Tony Ruberto, with Ruberto releasing his hand after a Shedon river bet.  Wasserman's A♠ Q♥ was bested by Sheldon's 5♠ 5♦, after the runout (2♥ 4♦ 6♠ 7♣ 8♠) gave Gross a straight.  Joshua earns $2,895 for his ninth place finish, and records his first tournament cash of the year.

Al Gomez (Miami, FL) continued his good form in reaching another final table, but falls short of his ultimate goal.

Al Gomez (Miami, FL) was one of the shortest stacks coming to the final table, and he'd be all-in and at risk, just a handful of hands in.  After Sheldon Gross limped, Gomez shoved for 112,000, with action folding around to Scott Levitt (in the small blind).  Scott three-bet to just over 325,000, causing Sheldon to release, and getting heads up with Gomez.

It would be the A♣ 6♣ of Gomez, against the 10♥ 10♠ of Levitt, with the board running out 8♣ 4♠ 2♣ 7♠ 2♦.  Gomez flopped a flush draw, and added even more outs on the turn (to a straight), but ended up bricking the river.  Al received $2,440 for his tenth place finish, while Levitt chips up to 1,800,000.
