Gomez grabs the lead back with a fortunate turn card |
Table 13 was approached just as one of the larger pots of the tournament was beginning, with Al Gomez limping UTG. Action folded around to a player in the hijack, who open-shoved for 2,600 (this was at 1,200 big blind). Patrick Carnackie called on the button, and after the blinds folded, Al Gomez back-raised to 6,500. Carnackie made the call, and after the side pot was worked out, the dealer would fan out a flop of K
♦ J
♥ 8♣. Gomez led for 9,000, and after about (45) seconds, Patrick shoved for just under 50,000. Gomez had him covered, and took little time before deciding to make the call, only to see he was behind. Patrick flopped two pair with K♣ 8♠, grabbing the lead away from Gomez's A♠ A
♥.
The turn changed everything though, as the board paired with a jack, counterfeiting Patrick's two pair and giving Gomez a strong lead. The river 10♣ would eliminate Carnackie (as well as the short stacked player who had shoved), and Gomez would rake in the pot worth close to 115,000.
Al Gomez - 113,000
