Matthew Zarcadoolas (left) and Justin Harvell (right) both turned the nut-straight, with Matthew free-rolling for a pot that would have allowed him to cruise to the final table. |
On one of the final hands of Level 17, Charlemagne Benjamin walked over to the media table, and drew attention to a massive pot playing out at Table 1. The hand involved three of the top ten stacks in the field (Justin Harvell, Matthew Zarcadoolas, and Donald Williams). The action was on the turn, with a board that read 10♣ 9♦ 5♣ 6♦, and heaps of chips in the middle. Zarcadoolas had a bet of 73,500 in front of him, with Justin Harvell having just went all-in for 216,000. Donald Williams was in the tank, and eventually ended up announcing a call. Matthew Zarcadoolas also verbalized a call, and even though Williams still had some chips behind, the three hands were tabled:
Williams: J♣ J♦
Zarcadoolas: 7♦ 8♦
Harvell: 7♣ 8♠
River: 8♥
Once Williams made the call, he would quickly learn that his hand was drawing dead against both opponents, as each of them turned the ten-high straight. Zarcadoolas was free-rolling for the over 600,000 chip pot, holding a flush draw. The river brought a red card, but it wasn't the suit Matthew was looking for. Regardless, the two players would chop up Donald Williams stack, each ending up just under 400,000 total (after the pot wa split and shipped their way).
Justin Harvell - 398,000 (66bb)
Matthew Zarcadoolas - 390,000 (65bb)
Donald Williams - 14,000 (2bb)
