Event 13 (Day 2): Varlashin's Aces Rocket Him Up Leaderboard

Event 13 ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event)
$500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Total Entries: 466
Players Remaining: 60
Chip Average: 233,000

Vladislav Varlashin (Krasnodar, Russia)
Dimitri Algrachov would open the action at Table 1, raising it up to 9,500.  Vladislav Varlashin was next to act, and he'd put together a three-bet to 20,000.  After a few folds, David Ward (Wilmington, MA) would make the call, with the original raiser (Algrachov) coming along as well.

The dealer would fan out a flop of 9 8 4, and after Dmitri checked and Varlashin continued, Ward would raise all-in for just over 200,000.  Agrachov then released his hand, and Varlashin immediately made the call, flipping over pocket aces.

Ward would run into one of the toughest spots in poker, as his K K♣ was in brutal shape against the A A of Varlashin.  The turn and river would bring no help to Ward, who quickly stood up from the table and exited the poker room.

Vladislav Varlishin - 520,000
David Ward - Eliminated
