"June $50,000 GTD" (Day 2): Quick Color Up Break, Hecker Finds A Fortunate River

"June $50,000 GTD"
$75 No Limit Hold'em
Level 16 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Players Remaining: 214/1,725

Scott Hecker (Boca Raton, FL)

Day 2 players are just returning from their first break of the day, as tournament staff colored off the black (100) chips.  As the break was about two minutes in, players began to question why the clock was still running.  There was one hand still in play at Table 15, with Scott Hecker experiencing the better side of variance on the river.  Hecker had called a check-shove from Larry Travers, holding A♠ 10♣ on an A Q♠ 10 flop.  Scott's tournament life would be on the line, as his hand was behind Traver's A Q.  The turn would bring no help for Scott, who needed to see one of the two remaining tens from the deck.  The two-outer did hit on the river, giving Hecker the full house, and leaving Travers with less than 100,000.  Scott now has one of the top ten stacks in the field, sitting with 310,000 (77 big blinds).
