Isle Poker Classic Event #7 (Day 2): Jason Holding It Down For The Atherley's, Finds Fortunate River To Stay Alive

2018 Isle Poker Classic (Event #7)
$1,100 No Limit Hold'em Main Event
$200,000 GTD
Level 16 (Blinds 2,500/5,000/5,000)
Total Event #7 Entries: 244
Players Remaining: 36

Jason Atherley (Lake Worth, FL) looked as if he would be heading home short of the money bubble, but hit a miracle river to stay alive and double up.

With the field now just seven eliminations from the money, every single hand is that much more critical to those still alive.  Just a few moments ago, Jason Atherley (Lake Worth, FL) was all-in (pre-flop) for 84,000, against a player with a similar sized stack.  Things looked pretty bleak for Jason, as his Q♠ Q♣ was dominated the A♠ A♣ of his opponent.  The board would run out K J♠ 4♣ 8 Q, with Jason spiking a set on the river, which eliminated his adversary from play.  Jason had just a few thousand more than the all-in player, and scooped it in the pot worth close to 170,000.

Jason is the son of Noel Atherley, who broke out on the Isle Poker scene last year, besting Brian Hastings heasds-up to win Event #15 of the Isle Poker Open ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em).  Jason has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to eclipse his father's career earnings of $119,880, but could use a deep run in this event as a stepping stone.  If Jason is able to finish better than 22nd place in this tournament, he will eclipse his lifetime earnings (which are $2,558).

Jason Atherley - 168,000 (34bb)
