$75 No Limit Hold'em
Level 14 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/300)
Flight 1A Players Remaining: 37/121
Gene Mirabello (Deerfield Beach, FL) |
One of the great things about this tournament is the "availability" it offers to players of all abilities, experience, and bankroll. While the $75 buy-in is very comfortable for recreational players, the $50,000 guarantee helps attract the tournament veterans and grinders. There aren't many opportunities for players to turn a $75 buy-in into a five-figure score, which is why we are seeing a lot of new faces in the crowd.
One of those new faces just tripled up moments ago, a Gene Mirabello eliminated one opponent, and doubled through another to scoop a multi-way pot. The chips from the three players would find their way to the middle on a flop of K♥ 7♣ 3♠, with Mirabello holding 7♠ 7♦ against 7♥ 8♥ and K♣ 9♣. Gene had both of his opponents in really rough shape, and after the Q fell on the turn, he'd have the hand locked up. Mirabello is up to 80,000 with that pot, and sits with a top ten stack in Flight 1A. Mirabello is a player with just one $88 cash on his tournament resume, so potentially bagging chips and reaching Day 2 would be a new experience for Gene.
Remaining players will head on their final break of the day at the conclusion of this level, and will return to finish the final four levels. Focus can begin to shift toward the chip lead bonus, with the largest stack of each starting flight walking away $500 richer.
