Isle Open Event 15 (Day 2): Too Many Outs For Ido, Eliminated By Sheldon Gross In 9th Place ($4,493)

2017 Isle Open | Event #15
$1,100 No Limit Hold'em | $150,000 GTD
Level 23 (Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000)
Total Event 15 Entries: 180
Players Remaining: 8

Ido Ashkenazi (Queens, NY) did an excellent job to stay alive as long as he did at the final table, considering he started with the shortest stack...by far.

Not only was Ido Ashkenazi (Queens, NY) surviving at the final table, he began to build his stack, which was less than eight big blinds when the ten players redrew.  Ido was up to 275,000, and would shove a 5 7♠ 8♠ flop, heads up with Sheldon Gross.  After finding out the exact amount, Gross would make the call, with the two fairly close in terms of percentages.

Sheldon watched as Ido turned over Q♠ 6♠, and followed by tabling 10 10, needing to fade a lot of outs on the turn and river.  The 2 on the turn strengthened Sheldon's slim lead, with the 3 on the river sealing Ashkenazi's fate.  Sheldon stood up and raised his hands in celebration, knowing how big the moment was for him.  If Gross was to lose the hand, he would have been left with less than five big blinds, as the two were that close in chip counts.
