FSPC Event #9 (Day 2): Matt Smith Recovers Nicely, Doubles Through Noel Atherley

2018 Florida State Poker Championship
Event #9 | $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($200,000 GTD)
Level 18 (Blinds 4,000/8,000/8,000)
Total Event #9 Entries: 341
Event #9 Players Remaining: 31

Matthew Smith (Margate, FL) has managed to recover from losing a hand where he was left with 20,000 chips...which was just there big blinds.

After taking his bad beat in stride earlier (when Brett Bader hit a one-outer to step away a 270,000 pot), Matt Smith was able to turn the 20,000 he was left with, to over 100,000.  Moments ago, he was all-in (pre-flop) and at risk against Noel Atherley, for a pot worth 245,000:

Smith: A♠ Q
Atherley: A♣ K

Runout: J 10 8♣ 6♣ K

"Don't worry, I never win these," Atherley said aloud, once the hands were on their backs.  Things were looking bleak for Smith, but he spiked a king on the river to make broadway, and would double up.

Matt Smith - 245,000 (30bb)
Noel Atherley - 160,000 (20bb)
